Anti Ice in the TBM

Featured Replies

So...  is it just me, or does the anti ice not work at all?

I'm doing a circumnavigation trip with the TBM and im now coming out of Greenland into Canada.

(super awesome experience)

But I've noticed that if I have the anti ice switches on or off hardly makes a difference at all?

If I turn them on, my windshield nearly instantly heats and there's no more frost.  But the fuselage?

Doesn't matter.

is this how the TBM is?

Thank you.

Are you referring to aesthetics or performance? The latter is what matters really 🙂

SAR Pilot. Flight Sim'ing since the beginning.

There is no deicing for the fuselage.

Only Windshield, Prop, Wing/Elevator/Stabilizers/stall warning and pitots are equipped with ice protection systems.

I suppose I am only referencing how it looks.

I havent felt heavy coming down to land or had it mess with any performance.

But still...  If one hits the anti ice switches before going into clouds or precipitation in Temps below freezing...   theres no way a TBM ices up like that, right?

I look like a snowball coming in on final.

PS:    What the heck do I know about how a 930 feels with ice its wings?

I can still land it!  Thats all I know.

Yeah.   So there's ice ALL OVER the wings, stabilizers, and props.

Its only the leading edges getting deiced.

Not sure about the props.

The other replies here are correct.  Windshield (yes, this works visually), Prop (yes, this works but can not be perceived while in flight), Wing (yes this works in flight and can be seen, toggle this on and you will see the leading edge boots inflate/deflate in cycle - this is an 'de-ice' system vs. 'anti ice' system). Elevator/Stabilizers (yes, this works as a heated leading edge).  Stall warning and pitots (yes, this works as these heated system will ice over in the sim)

I have tured off icing in settings. If it is on, no matter what you do in the DA62, icing occurs an it is very difficult to recover. I suspect the anti icing equipment, which is there and can be turned on, does not work. I have tried it in the conditions in which it should work, and, in my opinion, it does not. Hope they fix it. Hate to use "non realistic" settings, but I think de icing systems don´t work (at least in the DA62).

Yeah.     The windshields definitely work.   Buy it doesnt seem like it works at all on the wings, tail, and prop.

Kind of a bummer.   Seems like something that could get fixed relatively easy, but what do I know?   Don't see many complaints about it.

I'm mean...  I am in the Greenland/Northern Canada return leg of my trip round the world in the TBM.   So...   Im having a lot of fun regardless!

It works, just not super realistically but its a start 🙂

Here is a "hack" that can get rid of they annoying frame ice that is waaaaay overdone in the sim....I think they said they'll address it in time.

Anyway....once you are thru the icing and see a frigid sight like below, go into developer mode and grab this slider and drag to the left.  Perfect? no Works? yes. 🙂

If you can't read the screen below...its under options, Visual Icing.

When you're done...your TBM will be ice free and lovely once again. 🙂

So they have put this one on ice?  Is that it? LOL!  And hacking off the ice is certainly the hard way......  Especially at altitude and speed!

Your puns are getting a chilly reception from me.    And haven't ever watched the Twilight Zone episode with the monster on the wing of the plane?  He's got an e-businees page where you can hire him to hack that ice off your plane. 🙂

Visually...the ice formation is all screwed up.  It is better than what it was.  Typically you'll only see ice on leading edges of wing/tips, antennas, probes, spinner/intake.  You're not really going to see it all over the fuselage and side windows...  you could definitely get ice on the windscreen though.

Here, I ruined Steve's nice screenshot with where you'd typically see ice
