Because if handled properly, the car can achieve way higher speeds. That’s the whole thrill of the thing, and many would argue the whole point. Imagine a Ferrari owner driving at 30mph all the time?! What would be the point.... I myself own a performance car, and if someone told me I had to drive at 30mph all the time, I’d just get rid and get any old car.

It's a bit like someone saying, you may occasionally encounter a school zone, so it's best to drive 30Mph all the time 😛

I guess we can agree to disagree on this point. What I am seeing going 30 is a far better picture than I was seeing going 60 with all "sliders" to the right. It just works.

Thanks for the info. Glad you are getting positive results with your setup. Is this a 4k tv? and what are your in game settings as custom or low, mid, high, or ultra? Skip

Glad to hear you are now enjoying your 3090 skipping.

I picked up one earlier this week after much deliberation. That is a hefty price tag to pay for a graphics card. I considered waiting for the 3080ti but in the end caved in and went with the 3090. I had a 1080ti for nearly 4 years and I hope the 3090 will future proof me as much as possible for VR etc. Also in the future I will move to a 38” ultra wide or 4K monitor so I think every bit of horsepower will help.

I also lock my monitor at 30hz (3440 x 1440) and performance is good in MSFS at ultra settings. Very smooth apart from the occasional pauses that still plague the sim. I feel these have gotten worse with recent updates. Flying in MSFS at night on ultra settings in dense city areas still pushes the card up to 75 - 80%. So I am not convinced the 3090 is an overkill.

On a side note in P3D at 4 x SSAA the card will still max out at some airports at night with dynamic lighting. Most I can get away with 4 x SSAA and some even 8 x SSAA. Having 8 x SSAA at night in the FSL Airbus is a very beautiful thing. To fly into most airports at night at min 4 x SSAA for me personally makes the 3090 worthwhile.

Trying to comment on individual posts that had me swamped for a few days, please pardon the late response. Very informative post and I thank you. I have my resolution at 3840 x 2160 and find i do not need AA or any other filtering even though they come on when you select the Ultra menu settings. Yes, I too, have the small loading pause every now and again as the scenery shifts to another region / airport. But like you, all other small immersion killers are gone and seeing the sim in the Ultra settings with total immersion really brings  the smile to the kisser. The 3090 in 4K with some direction added makes the card totally worth the price of admission. Skip

Yes 4K TV.

Almost everything is on ULTRA some on HIGH
Renderscale etc on 150

Why do you have render scale on 150 if you are running a 4k tv? That's almost like running the sim at 6k......

Thanks for the reply. Very impressive render setting. I left my render at 100 and 200 on the other options. Ultra on everything else though. Skip

For anyone with a 3090, 3080 etc.... you really need G-Sync. It’s often and overlooked factor I think, but, G-sync completely smooths it out. Especially 4K between 40-60fps. You don’t need the FPS counter on.  It just becomes irrelevant.
People spend this money on GPU’s and CPU’s but often overlook the monitor specifications. It makes a massive difference.

Sorry I did not get to comment on this post earlier but you are right to point out the need to know your monitor settings, front and back. I have another monitor that is g-sync capable, but it is only 2560, and after running 4k for a couple of years, I could not go back to that  resolution. Skip

I give up waiting, just bought a Pailt gaming pro OC 3090.
