December 17, 20205 yr I want one but I'm still running an old i7 4770k which would probably bottleneck it 🙃 Tom Wright, UK PPL(A) SEP + Night Rating + IMC/IR(R) Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 | AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D | 32GB DDR5 6000MHz RAM | 16GB RTX 4080 Super | 2x 2TB Samsung 990 PRO M.2 | Thrustmaster TCA Airbus Sidestick + Quadrant | Logitech G Saitek Pro Flight Rudder Pedals | WinCTRL Airbus FCU + EFIS + MCDU
December 17, 20205 yr Author Yep, would bottleneck I would say. You would see an improvement but not the full capabilities of the card.
December 17, 20205 yr It seems that Scan don't have any graphics cards in stock. Is this, for those of your who know these things, a sign of a universal shortage of GPUs? Or are they perhaps all inside a shipping container held up at a dock or on a ship somewhere that cannot find a dock? Edited December 17, 20205 yr by Reader

I have a Corsair RM850x 80 PLUS Gold 850W PSU. Powerful enough. Just need to clarify the situation with connectors. https://forums.tomshardware.com/threads/corsair-rm850x-2018-connectors.3647843/

I'll keep plodding on with my GTX 1060 until such time as I decide to go 4K and then splash out and replace the whole lot! MSFS surprisingly doesn't perform too badly on my old(er) machine. December 17, 20205 yr From my bitter experience I would not believe anything Scan UK says, shows or advertises. Hence why I manged to grab one. That's why I posted here, because I knew they would sell fast, so wanted to alert people who were waiting for them to materialise. It's the new 30 series cards. Dreadfully short supply. Combination of Nvidia underestimating the demand and Covid. Samsung wafers are in short supply due to lock downs in various countries.

According to Scan, payment authorised. Next step is "order dispatched". So we will see. I've never had an issue with Scan if they say its in stock, but there's always a first time. The only issue I've had with them in the past was the return of a monitor that arrived broken. Had to jump through many hoops. Not straightforward and fast like Amazon.
December 17, 20205 yr Moderator @w6kd and @martin-w, thank you both for your info. I'll need to get into the loft and see what connectors Chilllblast left me. I assume they would provide all items that weren't needed for the build. And with the 3090 now having sold out I'll bide my time. I doubt I'll need all 24Gb of VRAM and a more modest 16Gb card would be my preference with a lower demand for power. Hopefully something like that will be produced by Nvidia. Ray (Cheshire, England). "The RM850x has 3 PCIe cables. Each cable has 2 connectors on it, for a total of 6 connectors. This means you have 3 x 8 pin (6+2) PCIe cables." So providing Chillblast supplied what they didn't use I'm fine. Just the decision as to what card to buy when some are available. Ray (Cheshire, England). Choose from in terms of model, not availability. 🙂 3060, 3070, 3080, 3090... and apparently a 3080 Ti on the way. There's an upcoming Nvidia event scheduled for January the 12th that will reveal new cards. 😀 Two days after my birthday, please don't forget to send me a present Ray. https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/special-event/ https://www.tomshardware.com/news/nvidia-geforce-event-january-2021
December 17, 20205 yr Moderator Thanks Martin. New cards have been a rumour for a while. Not interested in any card that has less VRAM than I currently have. Hopefully the Ti will be the answer. I couldn’t afford the sort of presents you would approve of. 😉 Ray (Cheshire, England).
