December 20, 20205 yr I swear you can use P3D and lose the "I'm spoiled by MSFS scenery/atmospherics/lighting" which I can totally relate to by simply stopping the need to require the veteran "airline cockpit simulator" to keep up visually. Do exclusively Dusk to Dawn flights and its just wonderful! Put another way: P3D really shines...in the dark! And bonus, you can dial back autogen/distance/complexity and end up flying in the most demanding places w/o jeopardizing performance while in the heavier aircraft. I've really re-enjoyed some nice flights in the PMDG 777, though the last Cat 3 landing was very harsh at KSFO-HD. Is that from bogus nav data? Altimeter was correct but right at the beginning of RWY 27R the thing just suddenly dropped 15' for a very hard landing. I require FSCaptain to enjoy the full rituals involved in the airline cockpit simulator--the procedures and sequencing. I think I would bore terribly otherwise and be right where you might be, so it helps to just let P3D be the fabulous ACS that it is--just turn down the lights and all is much better! At times like this it couldn't be any more obvious that, amongst the human race, there are a lot of people who are willing to put much more energy into hating something than liking it. See the various folks who always pop up in threads like these just to spew the tired "I want to enjoy it, but there's always this one very precise thing that doesn't need to be a dealbreaker going wrong, and it RUINS my enjoyment." If people were as picky about dealbeakers in a relationship as they were in a $60 sim, the world would be full of angry, bitter, lonely people and we, as a species, would probably go extinct. It's really quite remarkable. At this point, opinions are set are people are fully invested in "their side" and nothing will change their minds. Your original post was very much appreciated, because it shows that you, unlike many, are able to look past the flaws to find the joy that is there to be found, which is admirable. The rest of the ensuing, unchanging argument is, at this point, purely masturbatory. So I'm not going to take part in it. Like you, I'm going to fly in this broken, horrible, terrible sim where something is always wrong and there is nothing to be enjoyed. And I'm going to enjoy it. So there! December 20, 20205 yr I always operate under the assumption that forums exist for the expression of differing opinions and points of view--that their value is the availability of a wide variety of opinions, information and the experiences of others. My belief is that there are many people who are actually interested in an opinion which may be at variance with their own--that there is value in discussion. I wonder if the hostility to this idea is, itself, an unfortunate sign of the times. Edited December 20, 20205 yr by TASCHMANN

Oh absolutely. The problem is that the opinions don't differ -- they stay exactly the same, thread after thread. It's not Cato and Cicero having a debate for the ages. It's Tommy and TImmy unable to behave, throwing their toys at one another over and over in the back seat. At some point mom and dad should just turn the car around and go home. Or at least ignore Tommy and Timmy and talk about the weather or have their own discussion about the merits of pizza vs pasta for dinner tonight. Edited December 20, 20205 yr by kaosfere

But let's also bear in mind that MSFS has been in development for years and these fundamental things have yet to be attended to. It just seems to me that MS/Asobo are not very interested in those features and are therefore unlikely to improve them any time soon--if at all. Yet there are alternative platforms available right now for those who find them essential to realistic flight simulation. Think about how long it took XP to switch to a new rendering engine. Developing a game basically from scratch (a little legacy code is always used) does take years. My guess is, they only started paying attention to details during the last year. It's also worth mentioning, that they announced a new Aerodynamics episode for January. Let's see if they improve the physics. Inertia, control authority and ground effect would be in need of a tweak. If Star Citizen is familiar to you, then you know how awfully long some developments can take. 😄 Happy with MSFS 🙂 home simming evolved
December 21, 20205 yr Tweeks, Your are right, of course. Patience is always in order. I am eager to see if, after the release of VR tomorrow, MSFS will find its place as a usable VFR platform. If so, perhaps some of the disappointment that was brought on by the year long advertising campaign will diminish. I hope it will. You also make a good point, as others have, that complex software takes time. It does. What has seemed to me to be different in the case of MSFS is the amount of resources they have used to promote the product as opposed to ensuring that very basic features are operational. I applaud the many many reputable developers in this industry who finish their products first and then sell them. My concern is for those members of the community who are eager to abandon products that have served us well for years. I would like to suggest some alternatives to those who may have limited resources and are interested in a particular aspect of our hobby. I was also very concerned about those who wrote that they were considering deleting all their other sims when MSFS was released. So much time and work goes into these installations that I began to feel like William Holden in "Network" when he yelled "Don't do it Buddy--you've got your whole life ahead of you!" In any case, I sincerely hope you are right about the future of this sim--I just don't want to overlook what is already available now. Merry Christmas and/or Happy Holidays.

Well, I guess you can't have it all. One sim is owned by a big tech company and they do whatever they want with it. Another one is owned by an aviation enthusiast who developes it mainly according to his ideas and MSFS is an entertainment product and therefore being marketed. I think, it is in MS/ASOBOs interest to keep the community satisfied (to keep buying eventual addons) and therefore they'll keep on developing it. We can be happy to have an experienced designer providing a solid technical foundation for aviation experts to implement the more specific features. FBW shows what is possible already. Merry Christmas as well! 🎄 Edited December 21, 20205 yr by tweekz Happy with MSFS 🙂 home simming evolved
