December 22, 20205 yr Hi Mark, Very sorry to hear about your tribulations with your back but I have to say your description of the unfortunate incident was quite entertaining! I had noticed that you were missing from the FSX forum for a while and was hoping you hadn’t caught the dreaded lurgy but just noticed this thread which explains your absence. Being tall, I have a dodgy back too but thankfully have managed to avoid too much grief. The only time I came anything close to what you describe was many years ago when my back went while trying to clear leaves from a drain. Unlike my usual bad practice of just bending over to do stuff on the ground, on this occasion I thought I would do the right thing and knelt down to do the job. That proved to be a bad move however because, whatever position I got myself into, my back suddenly went and horrendous pains like electric shocks, as you describe, shot down one leg and I could barely move for a few minutes. I was on my own at home at the time but eventually managed to limp back into the house where I did some back exercises a bit like the first one Chock described and thankfully things improved after about 20 minutes. Your story however brought back vivid memories of those pains and I can’t imagine what it must have been like to suffer them for so long 😳. Disc problems must run in our family however as my older daughter had to have a disc replaced in her neck a year ago this month after suffering from similar electric shock type pains in her neck and arm intermittently for many months from a displaced cervical disc. Good to hear that you are on the mend now. Avoid those microwaves!! Bill
December 22, 20205 yr Look up "Nerve Glides"... I am fused from L3-S1... ~30+ hours of total surgery, the longest single procedure was 13 hours through my stomach and back... I've also had a hip replacement and then had to have it revised after it was recalled! My last surgery I was scooped up off the floor in the fetal position and in surgery less than 8 hours later due to the position of the disc on the nerve and loss of bladder control... My left leg is still numb, always will be, that's why I drive a PDK race car, can't feel that blasted 3rd pedal anymore. With all of that being said I am on my way downstairs for a work-out right now. I also still race cars and literally do everything I want to do. It took almost a year of extensive work to get to this point. Post-Op they had me waking up 2x through the night just to get up and glide the nerves. It is an absolute game changer. My wife always says that looking at me she often forgets how F'd up I really am... I tried everything prior and lived with a daily pain level of 4-5 on a 1-10. Now I am down to a 2. Yes I still have pain daily but the glides changed my life and made it so much more manageable. I CAN"T recommend them enough!! As simmers the other thing to consider is your chair!!! I have a Herman Miller Embody chair. They are expensive, ~$1,500-$2000. I bought this one in 2005 so it's 16 years old already. Earlier this year I was having excruciating burning pains in my neck. We tried exercise, anti-inflammatory did a scan but my neck kept hurting and hands kept going numb. Then I decided to take my Herman Miller chair and swap it with the chair I had been using for flight-sim. For my driving sim I have my actual race seat which is custom molded to my spine. Sure enough gradually my neck started to ease... Now if I swap chairs back I can feel it in my neck after 30 minutes. So yes, now I have a SECOND Herman Miller coming just for my flightsim setup so I don't have to keep rolling my office chair back and forth. Any of us that do long sim sessions should be getting up and stretching/moving regularly. You can even do Nerve Glides while sitting at your desk. Sitting, especially sitting with incorrect posture will destroy your back... Edited December 22, 20205 yr by psolk Have a Wonderful Day -Paul Solk

(Missing link? ) Are you implying that the town's population is given to dragging their knuckles on the floor? If so, then I can indeed relate to the theory and I suspect that there are many other places on this Septic Isle where similar traits can be observed Hi Mark, My sympathies for your back problem. I used to suffer from slightly slipped discs when I was younger but far less so now. The only thing that’s changed in my lifestyle is taking a cod liver oil tablet each morning on the basis it helps to lubricate my joints. Something to consider maybe? I hope you recover sufficiently to enjoy your Christmas. Regarding New Mills wasn’t the BBC’s The League of Gentlemen filmed in that area? Royston Vasey spring to mind? Certainly some strange characters in that village. This is a local shop for local people! 🤣 Ray (Cheshire, England). December 26, 20205 yr Author Thanks for sharing, Paul! That's a great article with a nice explanation of the sim side of racing too. Professional "glossy" pdf too! I deduce that you're a member of a pretty large car club . I fear I'd have given up on a lot of things had I to go through what you went through... a lot of things.. I say that now as an outsider and pray that I'll never know the real answer about what I would actually do if that happened to me.🍻 Mark Robinson Part-time Ferroequinologist Author of FLIGHT: A near-future short story (ebook available on amazon) I made the baby cry - A2A Simulations L-049 Constellation Sky Simulations MD-11 V2.2 Pilot.
