Lost log book completely

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

today I sent the following to Zendesk which is self explanatory

“When I first launched MSFS today I had a message stating that the internet connection was lost (my internet was working outside of the simulator). I'm not sure if that is relevant but I mention it just on case. I then had a message saying that Content Manager was not up to date, I could not get off this screen so I had to use End Task to close MSFS. I closed down the PC and when I went back a couple of hours later and launched MSFS everything was working fine, lost connection problem had disappeared. I carried out a small flight in the Cessna 172, live weather etc all good. At the end of the flight, this was recorded in the log book, but when I looked more carefully, this was the ONLY flight recorded!! I have lost over 70 hours of flying time!! Is there any way to recover this?? Is there a back up somewhere??“

Has anyone else experienced this? And you have, is there a solution.?

Many thanks, Mike

Sorry to hear this happened to you.  I understand the logbook is located online and that there is currently no method for backup.  Wow > I have the opposite problem.  I would like to get rid of mine and start over and cannot determine how to do that.  I am a very experienced flyer and complete all of my flights rather successfully.  Only 4 of my now 48 logged flights show landings.  Most show my destination as "in the vicinity" of some obscure small airport 25 to 50 miles from the airport at which I landed and credit me with 0 for the landing.  And all of the study time I spent familiarizing myself with the various models even though in those cases I never moved the aircraft and did not even start engines in a number of them.

Hope you find a way to recover.  Have you tried signing out at the MSFS and xBox sites and signing back in?

Phil, yes I found out afterwards that there as indeed a server outage which have a bearing on my problem. Thanks for your input.

Frank, I tried your suggestion of signing out and then signing back in, but unfortunately that didn't work. Looks like I've lost a lot of flying hours! Yes, I've also had the "in the vicinity" and 0 landings and takeoffs. I guess over time Microsoft/Asobo will get it right, still early days yet. Just a suggestion, but if you really want to start over again, why not recreate your profile?

Many thanks

Mike

MIke.  I had to laugh out loud at this one.  Yesterday I completed a short flight from KCMI - Champaign, Illinois, to KBMG - Bloomington, Indiana.  KBMG is one of my two bases of operation.  The other is in Maryland.  Anyway, I have flown MSFS into Bloomington often now.  Each time I seek out the ramp attendant and park, shutdown, and then have to Esc to the Main Menu to look at the log.

The popup log entry at the end of a flight has not appeared but perhaps two or three times in 50 flights.  It has never appeared after a landing at Bloomington.  I have not had the Profile logbook ever show anything at Bloomington but the strange "vicinity of" entries there.  I created an addon KBMG for FSX and P3D (v. up to 3x) and in those sims have designated a hanger with an opening door as my own. So after landing at Bloomington yesterday in MSFS I ignored the ramp attendant and taxied to the approximate spot in MSFS where my hangar is in FSX.  The MSFS ramp ends just before a building that is not a hangar.  What the heck.  I just parked there and went through the shutdown process.

As soon as I completed the final step, switch off battery, I got the elusive popup log entry.  Say What????  Incredulous!  And here is the screen shot I captured.  Note it got the departure and arrival airports correct.  The time of departure and the flight time correct.  It gave credit for the landing.  But when I looked at the screenshot this morning I noticed.....   There was no credit for a takeoff.  OH MY!  ~!%^^%%$##

(BTW, the low log count of 25 takeoffs is due to use of the Developer mode for quite a number of flights.)

Perhaps Asobo should publish the criteria that is in use for the logbook...

I notice that if you start your flight at gate or parking lot cold and dark the logbook will not count the takeoff. If you start out on the runway then it will count the takeoff.

Odd, but understandable considering the evident lack of aviation understanding....  if you catch my drift.

The other interesting thing is if you are in a non-US timezone it often seems to miss logging your flight altogether but a day or so later when the US time matches the local time you flew the missing flight suddenly appears.

Hey Mike,

Yesterday I had exactly the same situation happen! I lost 212 hours of flight logs.... 😖

Please let me know if you found a solution to this disturbing problem.

Thanks in advance.

Same here. Lost my data and a few settings. Prior to that I received a message that my data is outdated - whatever that means. The Sim always went into offline mode. Loggin in and out didn't change anything. I store my flights in a different app, so my losses are not that dramatic. Still... weird.

Cheers,

Pete

My logbook hasn't functioned in about 10 days. Every day, I fly the same 50-mile flight from Huntington to Charleston, West Virginia. The last RECORDED flight, however, was March 30th.

I don't understand why they just don't fix the logbook so that the takeoffs and landings are the same. I have about 60 more landings than takeoffs. That makes no sense at all..

Hopefully soon we can call it the “Working Title Logbook”. Then it will finally work.
