As far as the first litigation against the airport from the families of those involved in a  fireballing wreckage..

Interestingly, a quick and dirty search revealed this:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foam_path

Although how toxic the foams are compared to the pollutants released from burning aircraft wreckage I do not know...

Interesting link. That makes sense reference foam supply and effect on braking

You might want to research that, commercial flight that crashed at KSFO a few years ago had survivors that were run over and killed by safety vehicles due to foaming.  Some passengers survived the crash but not the safety vehicles.

But if I have choose, I side with a better environment cause it’s my home ... figure an alternative, we,re intelligent enough to do exactly that.

Glad A2A crew came out intact.

Cheers Rob

I was just referring to what Scott said he was told by ATC when he requested the runway foamed.

It was only one passenger who was possibly killed by a fire truck which went over her. She was a 16 year old Chinese summer camp exchange student who had been on board the Asiana 777 which undershot the runway and crashed on the airfield. She had survived the initial impact, having been thrown out of the wreckage because she was not wearing her seatbelt, so it is questionable whether she would actually have survived the incident long-term, had the truck not gone over her, although obviously this was hardly a good thing.

Several passengers were not wearing seatbelts and were thrown out of the aircraft and either killed or seriously injured, and of these, Ye Meng Yuan (the girl who was run over) was injured but still alive when fire crews arrived at the scene. She had been spotted by rescuers, but they failed to check her properly and did not move her to a safe location or prevent approaching vehicles from heading toward her, and it was this which probably resulted in her being run over by a fire engine.

So it wasn't preventative runway foaming which resulted in her death, but actually foaming the crash site as the wreckage caught fire, then driving over areas that were foamed where she was lying in the grass. There is footage from a firefighter's helmet camera which show this is what occurred and that emergency workers had actually seen her before the truck hit her.

Yes, but pre-emptive or post crash foaming, the issue is the same ... i.e. not being able to see passengers on the ground due to foam.

Well that's not really going to be an issue for foaming a runway before there is a chance that passengers would actually be there because the aeroplane actually hasn't attempted a landing yet. 🤣

This just pushed me off the fence to purchase the remaining A2A planes for P3D that I did not have. Scott is going to need some cash flow help to rebuild his Aerostar. Hopefully the engines pass inspection but even that will cost a bit.

Yup, would seriously doubt he's flying an uninsured aeroplane.

Ron, Ron, I'm trying to justify my purchase. Work with me man. If his insurance is like mine, my purchase will help then his increase in premiums.......

On another note, do you think the A2A Aerostar will model belly landings?

Same with the anti-icing stuff used on runways, the older stuff was more effective, but it was more environmentally damaging - it was actually an extract from pig's urine called carbamide (carbonyl diamide) - so now they use synthetic stuff which isn't as effective.

They used an environmentally friendly alternative a couple of years ago at Gatwick.

They treated the whole runway in subzero conditions ready for the early morning arrivals only to then realise they’d forgotten to actually add the anti icing concentrate.

The runway had been treated with neat tap water which promptly froze forming a two mile long strip of sheet ice closing the airport down.
