Snow falling in FSX vs FS9

Can't you do it for us and post it here. As for the SDK tool its all Greek to me...lol and I am Greek. I did install it but there is no way I can use it. Too complicated for me. I just wish somebody can find a way to reproduce the snow effect in a more realistic way.Stelios

Yup you folks are correct, the snow in FSX sucks. I live in Canada and let me tell you have seen lots of snow and snow at airports and blowing across runways.Last week we got pounded by real snow here on the west coast of Canada, so I thought it would be fun to do a real weather scenario. I actually thought I had done something majorly wrong as my snow looked like rain.Man or man, how could MS screw this up like this? FS9 is better. There must be a way to tweak this.Heres to hoping there is a programming guru out there that loves snow and wants to see it properly rendered. It is odd that MS folks who live in Redmond Washington don't know what snow looks like, eh. Oh ya its been 10 years since the last snowfall in the PNW. All those young computer geeks haven't ever had to deal with it.Come on Bill, send you folks on an outing to other parts of the world to see how we all live.As far as beautiful, well, personally leave it in the mountains so I can two board on it in the morning, but golf in the afternoon at sea level. I hate shovelling the stuff.

Yup you folks are correct, the snow in FSX sucks. I live in Canada and let me tell you have seen lots of snow and snow at airports and blowing across runways.Still no blowing snow. This is something which has been part of Xplane for years. I was hoping to see it. The wet tarmac is nice though but no accumulating snow, etc.

>>Man or man, how could MS screw this up like this? FS9 is>better. There must be a way to tweak this.>It's not the textures, I know that. I noticed this rightafter I got fsx, and I tried using the fs9 textures..Found that they are the same for fs9/fsx...Made no difference. The problem with the snow is it's too longa streaks. Even the rain is too long as far as the streaksyou see. Looks fairly silly to me, but I kinda suspectsome problem they must have had coding this. Not sure whythough.. I'm not sure why no window fx now, but may have something to do with the reflections they are now usingclashing with the rain/snow window fx.. I dunno really..If they made the snow very short streaks, it would lookbetter. Actually sitting still, snow does not look like streaks at all. Should look like a flurry of dots nearly..FS9 snow was a lot better vs fsx. MK

I agree, FS9 snow is much better, FSX snow/rain is like a tunnel of doom. I don't know what they did, but imho, that feature was a step backwards

Gee you may have hit on something there, the rain/snow might be programmed really only for the flying effect of snow/rain which is streaks but when sitting still or taxiing around apts. this effect is poor.

The precipitation in fs9 sucks, and it is much worse in FS10. It seems like in most areas, flight simulator is regressing (in terms of graphics). The volumetric snow in fs8 was absoultely beautiful, it did not need changing. With these latest two installments, the volumetric precipitation that actually made sense and moved in the correct direction has been replaced with an ackward looking cone with a scrolling 2D texture pasted on it.I also notice no real graphical improvements in other areas of the game, save maybe the water.Cloud shadows real directional lighting from the sun (projected rays going through humidity) would do so much for this game.

>>I also notice no real graphical improvements in other areas of>the game, save maybe the water.>Interesting comment, as I could care less about water, and very much notice the higher resolution ground textures. These are very obvious around cities & mountains. Cityscapes that overlap into foohills look especially good.L.Adamson

Darn,I just checked it out, it looks awful...

For fear of a realistic assessment of FSX L.Adamson can't even stay on topic. We have to hear once again about how great the ground textures look over the topic at hand (rain/snow). If this isn't mindless support I don't know what it. I guess next Geofa will chime in about how great FSX is without autogen.

FS98 style data.Lets forget about the rock formations in the middle of riversLets forget about the terrible landclass and / or texturesLets forget about the airports on raised plateaus the likes of which even FSGenesis cannot produce.Lets forget about the numerous bugs which have already been reportedThe icing on the cake has to be the abysmal performance no matter how much hardware you throw at it. (not to mention that future CPU development will do nothing for this code)But for L.Adamson, everything is great. 'I'm alright Jack so sod the community' seems to be his motto. So quick to shootdown the naysayers, yet so quick to defend the product with equal intensity....hypocritical? You betcha...

>Cloud shadows real directional lighting from the sun> (projected rays going through humidity) would do so much for>this game.I agree with you 100%. This is the main feature I hope ACES bring to life with DX10. I recall some pics of a pre-release version of FSX which showed the Cloud Shadow option in the settings.

You know, since you mentioned it, it does look pretty good from up high without autogen on, and runs nicely as well.:-cool

Does it make you feel better?L.Adamson
