February 21, 20215 yr Commercial Member Hey guys! Is it me or the AA got worst in the last update? Not sure if it's me but I feel like I'm noticing more jiggered lines. Cheers! February 21, 20215 yr Yes, we are back to the old TAA method, before 1.10.7.0. It is not as good at eliminating jagged edges and it creates more blur, but it is more effective at denoising clouds and shadows. It was probably reverted because with the new one the grain in the clouds was more obvious. Personally I much preferred the look of the new TAA with the sharpening filter disabled but what can you do.

They made a point of promoting the fact that TAA had been ‘fixed’ a few patches ago, and now they’ve reverted it back to ‘fix’ the clouds? So, robbed Peter to pay Paul kind of thing. I thought the AA was worse, but I was thinking just placebo at first....

I have also noticed that TAA got worse in the last update, thank's for the explanation, now I know that there is nothing wrong with my machine. I thought the AA was worse, but I was thinking just placebo at first.... I can't stand this approach either. So many undocumented changes with each patch. For example, the "improvement" to the cloud system with 1.10.7.0 that caused them to flicker on older GPUs. Of course we only found out about it when support told us our GPUs are obsolete and that we should fly with clouds disabled "in the graphics settings". The same patch made some changes to the water rendering too. Plus the DXGI swap chain implementation with 1.13.16.0 which brought some significant changes to the frame limiter and more. And countless other small things I have forgotten about. I will really miss the new TAA. Even at 1080p it created an exceptionally clean image, negating the need for a sharpening filter, and with that disabled I felt that the tiny extra grain in the clouds and some shadows was an acceptable compromise. Now I have to pick between a blurred or an artificially sharpened image, and it's not like the grain in the clouds is completely eradicated either. I wish they would give us an option between the two TAA methods, and in-game toggles for those stupid sharpening and chromatic aberration filters already.
February 22, 20215 yr Who says that they have to tell us any changes that they make? One group asking for this and 5 more groups asking for something else. You can't please everyone
February 22, 20215 yr My thought is you don't need AA at 4k rez but it's not a huge frame killer these days. Regards bs AMD RYZEN 9 5900X 12 CORE CPU - ZOTAC RTX 3060Ti GPU - NZXT H510i ELITE CASE - EVO M.2 970 500GB DRIVE - 32GB XTREEM 4000 MEM - XPG GOLD 80+ 650 WATT PS - NZXT 280 HYBRID COOLER
February 22, 20215 yr Meh .. i did notice it a little but i thought nothing changed. If that's the tradeoff for better looking clouds ill give it a pass. After all it doesn't appear to be the really bad AA that they had after Japan ( I noticed that one right away). It seems like its the launch version. Which i can probably live with. You can't please everyone So, buy a product that was fairly good at launch, with all of the fancy advertising videos, then it's alight for them to make any significant changes they want afterwards (even perceived downgrades), and its alright for them not to tell us in the patch notes, and worse still, expect us just to swallow it without complaint if we spot it? Are you serious? Sounds like having no respect for the customer to me, and in some ways a bit like how CD Projekt Red conducted themselves, and that is going legal in a big way as we know. At 1080p the new TAA (now old I guess) looked literally amazing though. I guess that at 1440p and above the benefit fades away, but you do need a high-end GPU for that. 6 hours ago, Maxis said: After all it doesn't appear to be the really bad AA that they had after Japan ( I noticed that one right away). I've always kept that off and noticed no change in the TAA, then turned it on to check and the picture was full of grain and halo ringing. 1 hour ago, bobcat999 said: So, buy a product that was fairly good at launch, with all of the fancy advertising videos, then it's alight for them to make any significant changes they want afterwards (even perceived downgrades), and its alright for them not to tell us in the patch notes, and worse still, expect us just to swallow it without complaint if we spot it? Seems like you guys just love to complain for the sake of complaining. That blade of grass or rock was not there before the update. I'm not flying anymore. Thr sim is unusable because the night stars are not positioned correctly Lmao, these are some of the ridiculous things I see people post about. It's a pandemic, go explore the world, life's too short to be complaining about aa not being smooth enough. A year ago you guys were still fiddling with xp and p3d trying to get better performance and visuals, now ya'll complain like old ladies at bingo night
