World Update France & Benelux

Recommended Posts

Unhealthily excited about this. I think I might treat myself to a particularly fine bottle of calvados to accompany a long VFR jaunt around France.

What I'd like to see in the World updates instead of some 3D landmarks is some love given to the autogen engine (houses, buildings, farms, factories, commercial centers...).
Colors, shapes, size, roofs don't match in many countries.

Every world update adds new autogen buildings for the country(ies) they're focused on. The US got shopping centres, restaurants and gas stations, and the UK got all that plus some old churches and some other buildings. Japan got autogen pagodas, not sure if anything else.

It will be the same with this update, all 4 countries will get buildings. They said that the Netherlands will get autogen windmills for example.

Anybody watching the Tour de France bicycle races knows how wonderful rural France is in the mountains. The castles and monasteries mostly managed to escape the Revolution's cultural purge. Unlike a lot of Britain' architectural heritage under Henry VIII.

I know I am picky but somebody should tell those guys in Bordeaux that Jardin du Luxembourg is in France...

I had quite a chuckle when I saw that title card.

I was correct.

The next world update was NOT going to be Oceania.  I am further prepared to "guess" that the next one won't be either.

I am really happy for the people who live or fly in France or Europe though. Enjoy.

Almost as if there are commercial reasons why the USA, Japan, UK, France+Benelux countries were chosen ahead of Oceania. As such, I think Germany will appear as a world update sometime very soon.

Anyone interested in Africa, South America and to a smaller extent Asia, can generally feel hard done by historically in flight simming.

Still, I imagine Australia will appear before the vast majority of countries in those three continents.

The more commercially interesting countries, are also usually the ones with better available data ( satellite pics, mesh, photogrammetry, etc. ), and the reason why they have better data, it's because they are the more commercially interesting countries.

Available data really means easily obtained and easy to license. While I'm sure there must be somewhere very good GIS data for countries like China, for example, they might not as easy to obtain and license, especially for a US company. Check Bing maps for the new Bejing Daxing airport: it's just not there, there's a field where the airport is supposed to be!

Both of these are very well made points and I believe most of us are very much aware of them.

The trick here is to enjoy what we have while we wait for what we really want.

The only scenery I have ever purchased outside of Australia is in Indonesia and New Zealand. The three areas have very little devoted to them and I have what is available.

It is probably a very good thing that most simmers are not as locally focused as I am, particularly from a Developers point of view. This point of view (mine) is extended to all the sims I own, and is not likely to change.

I am thoroughly enjoying what I have though and, that too, is unlikely to change.

Tony

Which means that resources are being mis utilized.. and being put into the wrong departments and needs correction.. Upper level managers know how to play this game.

They just hired people from Working Title... and do you really think that the game pass Xbox subscribers will download 3d models for the Eiffel Tower in their consoles?

The comment was regarding moving resources. as the person you responded to said It needed to be re allocated. You claimed artists cant be used for programming. I pointed out that your argument really isnt an argument because that's not how resources are used in organizations. Departments are closed and expanded as needed. No one was expecting artists to be moved to Programming and QA . This is an upper management issue and they know how to move stuff around to get stuff done. You and i or anyone can disagree about the use of resources but they definitely know how to redirect if needed. That's the point of my response to you. The minutae of whether i feel their resource delployment and allocation is appropriate is for another discussion i care not to have but i will leave you with a side note.

I find it really sad that they had to pick up Working time to fix their issues post release when what they should have really have done is had a Garmin engineer on secondment from garmin from the start. Worst case? have garmin QA the systems if having an on site engineer is a bit too much for a fee.  Picking up working time meanwhile performance is degrading since release and they are brushing it off as a non issue .. Was i supposed to be impressed ?

Indeed but the "forgotten" continents are now a quantum leap better in MFS where it matters as seen from the skies, the geographical features : land cover, hydrology, roads. Mesh is  lacking a little bit compared to Pilot's and Blackshark ai is way too generous with high rises but still Asobo's baby beats Global+Vector+ Scenery Tech LC anyday. And the landmarks which are kind of a luxury will come from third parties.

Doing Japan before Australia was a smart and welcome move, something that Orbx has refused to do for years for obscure reasons.

In a way,  Southern Europe was not well treated by Orbx. I long for a good Greece and Italy (scheduled for 2022).

Satellites don't need passport to take pics 😉 and Daxing is well represented in Google Earth and I am sure that Maxar has even better images if requested. Actually one can find Chinese concentration camps on Google Earth too. (DabanCheng in Xinjiang for instance)

It seems in a way that the Bing team often buys or licences cheaper/older sat pics.

The other GIS data are widely available  mesh, hydrology, road networks.  Question of costs.

Sadly I don't see any Paris photogrammetry in the video...although perhaps it is in progress. Am also grateful for this free content.

The music in these video's give me goose bumps. It's beautiful. They should have used that as a background music in the sim. I could listen to that for hours while the update downloads 😉

All of the music for MSFS was composed by Finishing Move. You can listen to all the trailer soundtracks and menu music on their Youtube channel and also on Spotify!

This is the one they usually use for the World Update and Community trailers:
