Aerosoft CRJ Pre-Release Party

Recommended Posts

Ok lads, lets keep it clean. I am hyped for this release to finally have a regional jet in sim. Where do some of you day 1 folks plan to venture out to with your bird? I personally will watch initial reviews drop before I decide how early I wish to adopt the CRJ into my virtual hangar.

Personally, I am concerned by the instant rotation, wobbling climb behavior and long nose up attitude at landing in the tutorial series. I will check this on reviews and maybe wait for one or two updates.

Happy with MSFS 🙂

Watched the Squirrels video just now and he mentioned no default Checklist like you get with stock aircraft, without the buttons flashing blue how's a newbie like me supposed to know where everything is !? 😄

Now that the NDA has been lifted I can share some insights as a tester.

The pitch oscillation in climb has been completely eliminated for the release version. It is rock solid now.

“Instant rotation” isn’t exactly correct - it actually takes a fair amount of back pressure to rotate and lift off.

It is indeed necessary to hold some forward yoke pressure after landing until decelerating below about 90 knots to keep the nose wheel planted. this is related to the way MSFS ground effect currently works.

The reverse thrust is very effective so the aircraft slows quickly. A lot of work has been done on the aerodynamics of the flaps and slats to give realistic climb and descent angles after takeoff and during approach. With flaps 45 and VREF +5, the pitch will be slightly negative approaching touchdown this is accurate to the real aircraft (and unlike Boeings which tend to be pitched up on approach).

With practice, the sim aircraft can be landed very smoothly indeed. A CRJ does not require a lot of flare. Power is reduced smoothly to idle at the “30” call out and pitch brought up to just about level and held there, and the aircraft will settle nicely in ground effect.

A good hardware throttle quadrant is a great aid to flying the sim CRJ - especially in managing thrust in cruise. I use a VirtualFly TQ6, which has Hall effect sensors and a lot of “throw” on the levers. Other testers have good results with the new Thrustmaster TCA Airbus throttle quadrant.

For those with no hardware throttles at all, F1 through F4 actually works quite well.

Start reading all the manuals that come with it, or watch the tutorial videos already out.   For most part, any aircraft, still has everything in sections.  Hydraulics, electrical, lights,

Interestingly I was watching a video on YouTube last night of aircraft landing at KSAN that was shot from the top of a building on approach to 27 so it gave a great view of aircraft touching down.  After watching a stream of Boeings land, the CRJ was visibly more nose down in the video.

Party? It’s only a CRJ. 🙄 There couldn’t be a more boring add-on released. No matter who made it.

If you are having a party, please remember social distancing rules, and wear a mask at all times unless you are eating
