April 1, 20215 yr Author RNZAF livery dawn flight out of Queenstown, then later in the morning. Quite a handful! Very realistic ripping metal sound when I dropped the right wing on the runway during the 1st flight landing roll out. T45
April 1, 20215 yr I got and absolutely love! Pure stick and rudder airplane which require a lot of airmanship! I will forgive you a sloppy landing (thank you NAVY) but it won't forgive you a sloppy take off. Take off: Gotta set all trimmers right that is aileron, rudder, and elevator. Flaps 10 to 50 degrees depending on your mood. Tail hook LOCKED a must! 57'' MP, controls stick afft and little aileron to the wind. Just like in Waco wait for airspeed to build up and dance on rudders! Landing: I have only tried recommended 30 degrees flaps landing. Overhead break and circle to land a must. Unless of course you want to see runway! Finally, gotta watch out cylinder, oil temperature! Welcome to real life ! 😁 But I warn you magenta operators! You may hate it especially during take off. That is until get some rudder and stick skills 😎 Life time flight sim enthusiast, current airplane owner 172P (past C182F). Initial impressions- If you equate the Spitfire to a ballet dancer then I would suggest the Corsair equates to a break dancer. Finesse vs raw power. Sound is throatier than the Spit. I found using the WACO 'glue your tail wheel to the tarmac during initial take off roll' method & caressing the throttle, I could still be on the runway at lift off, ilo in the weeds. (Although I shoved in the last 30% of throttle once the tail was up & the rudder was biting, & it was controllable, didn't veer left) & I found the Corsair less skittish/more solid, easier to take off, than the Spit. Corsair is heavier & feels heavier in the air than the Spitfire. I like it. T45

April 1, 20215 yr It's definitely a handful. Thanks to Treetops45's comments I was finally able to get off without squirreling off the runway. Is there any way to get that view obstructing piece of glass out of the way? There's little thumbscrews on either side, like it could be lifted out of the way, but nothing to click. I see now it's a gunsight. How do you get the reticle to show? Edited April 1, 20215 yr by dobee51

April 1, 20215 yr It's fairly tricky to fly in comparison to less forgiving stuff in the sim, as indeed the real thing was in comparison to other fighter aeroplanes - they didn't call it the Ensign Eliminator for nothing - so don't expect an easy ride, but for the price this is a really good stab at what was maybe the best fighter of WW2. April 1, 20215 yr OK so first impressions (while I still learning), no airwork yet just take off/landing cruise Pros -99% switches works ++++ - comprehensive engine management ++++ - unofficial autopilot works (HDG, WING LVL) 😉 - very fast in cruise and very long range +++ - stall buffeting! ++++ - ground effect +++ - reduced response of controls at slow speed just like in T6 IRL ++++ - dive brakes (hasn't tried yet) Cons - no icing effects implemented yet - can't drop tanks or setup flight without tanks - oxygen is not implemented (due to MSFS limitation but I wish they did custom work here) - not for novice Wishlist - modern civilian variant like A2A Mustang Conclusion: LIKE IT. LOVE IT. GOTTA HAVE IT 🙃 True story from RL. When got a chance to fly T-6 (back to my private years) T6 CFI asked me what do I usually fly? I answered: mostly PA28 some 172 . My answer immediately made his face turn sour. Then I continued well I had few hours in Citabria. CFI face suddenly changed and I saw little a smile. Then I added " I also did some dual aerobatic in Decathlon". CFI face change again but in full smile and he said "I see you have real airplane experience! hop in"!
