Quite possibly, or at least yes as far as single-engine old-school props are concerned, although the Aeroplane Heaven Mark 1 Spit will probably give it at least a bit run for its money in this regard, but then again, anyone who likes that sort of thing will probably buy both, and the flying Iron Mark IX too, which is also pretty good. But this thing is a brute force boom and zoom fighter rather than possessing the lighter finesse of the Spitfire, so comparisons are a bit chalk and cheese, although since you can port the Aeroplane Heaven/Just flight A6M in MSFS, it is possible to fight it against possibly its most well-known adversary, where it allegedly had an 11 to 1 kill ratio. As such, it was undoubtedly one of the best, and possibly the best fighter of the war, and contrary to popular belief, it did tangle against the Germans in the European theatre when in British hands with the Fleet Air Arm, but being a naval fighter, it rarely came up against many land-based Lufwaffe aeroplanes. I suspect it could have given the Fw190 and Ta152 a run for their money; we can find out later this year; the Classics Hangar 190/152 is on the way for MSFS. The Germans did capture one intact in 1944 when it force landed in Norway, and may have test flown it, but by then they had the P-47, P-51 and P-38 to worry about, so I guess it wasn't a priority. But the fact that it was still flying in combat in the late 1960s, and managed to down MiG 15s in Korea in the 1950s says a lot for it. It won't be everyone's cup of tea; you have to fly it properly and it is a handful on take off and landing (but not unfairly so), although if you use the sims take off assistance that might make things a bit easier. Certainly the fact that you can break the engine gives it a bit more gravitas than most things and for VFR exploring, it is plenty fast enough to mean you can get around a bit. For children of the magenta line, you could put a flight plan in and follow the magenta line on the map manually, or use the keyboard shortcuts for the autopilot to assist you, or if you have a Logitech/Saitek hardware autopilot, that works with it as well. But it's one of those which you kind of have to know what you are doing. Then again, there is a 44 page PDF manual for it (which you can download prior to purchase if you like), so it's not like anyone who buys it is in trouble so long as they are prepared to read that and practice a bit. April 2, 20215 yr Nice one Chock. If you had to ditch either the Corsair or the FlyingIron Spit - which would go to the breakers yard?

Aaaargh, now you're asking a really tough question. If I'm completely honest, this thing is clearly the winner in terms of simulation realism and just sheer obsessive modeling detail, but I love me a Spitfire. Having said that, the Corsair has always had a big place in my heart too, along with the P-47. When Aeroplane Heaven get their Spitfire Vb out later this year (allegedly), that'll be it though. I just love the Vb more than any other WW2 combat aeroplane, with the possible exception of the B17, but that doesn't mean I'd park anything up; there a nice P40 coming too, and of course the CH Focke Wulf as well, oh, and a P-51 from AH. But to answer the question, if I had to ditch one, I'd ditch the Flying Iron Spitfire. This Milviz Corsair is a modeling triumph for MSFS; I would be very surprised if anyone disagreed with that. Fortunately, (wallet permitting) we can have all of them. Edited April 2, 20215 yr by Chock Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here

I can only imagine what it would feel like to be let loose with one of those things after you'd been flying a T6 or some such. That'd be a proper brown trousers moment, as it always is the first time you fly any single seater (been there done that lol). Got a funny story about it too... I was so nervous about flying one single seater type years ago, with all people gathered around the thing as I did the checks, leaning into the cockpit and going 'remember this' and 'don't forget this' 'and never do this' etc, I tightened the straps up so much because I was nervous, that when I took off, climbing out from the airfield I reached forward to the panel to adjust a control and I couldn't reach because I was so tightly strapped in - what a plonker lol. Back with the Corsair, can you imagine having that massive propeller and 2,000 hp engine in front of you on the ramp and your instructor says, 'okay, off you go'! Then, just when you think you're getting the hang of it and a smile starts to make an appearance, they make you fly out to a carrier and land it on that. Sheesh, those guys had some balls doing all that. Watching that training vid, I was always wary of being near ATR-72s and such with those big propellers spinning as you disconnected the headset and towbar, but seeing that big whirling prop on the Corsair in the video with the guy standing near it to whip the chocks out and then being in front to guide it, was a proper 'ooh, watch yourself mate' moment. One thing I can say about this Milviz Corsair, is that it genuinely does manage to convey some of the feeling that you've got a tiger by the tail as you line it up for the take off. Anyone who has ever flown a single seater for the first time will know that feeling, and it was great to get it with this sim aeroplane. In fairness, the Flying Iron Spit does that a bit too. April 2, 20215 yr Is it wrong to be pleased this is out so it means the Milviz 310 is that bit closer ? 🙂
April 2, 20215 yr Just now, Matchstick said: Is it wrong to be pleased this is out so it means the Milviz 310 is that bit closer ? 🙂 Nope, not at all. In fact this thing is indicative of just how much Milviz appear to be 'going for it' in terms of systems detail and simulation in MSFS if this is anything to go by, so that bodes well for their other offerings. However, you should be more excited about the fact that Milviz is making an A1E Skyraider for MSFS; now that really is an awesome single-engined prop plane, and considering the fact that the good old 'Spad' could lift everything including the kitchen sink, it might actually be good in Air Hauler as well! April 2, 20215 yr I tend towards DCS for my Combat Aircraft needs so a A1E in there would be perfect 🙂 But that said the expansive world of MSFS does offer potential that the restrictive maps od DCS can never match 🙂
