If I wanted to go as quick as possible straight & level for 50 miles or so at 10,000', what throttle, prop & mixture %'s would allow me to do that without wrecking the engine?

What speed did you hit?

What is the engine response like on the Corsair?

I'm curious as when you close the throttle on the Spitfire during a landing approach it does not seem to retard the speed very much - at least not initially.  I'm wondering whether this is a trait of the sim rather than the way the aircraft are modelled?

It seems very good

Agreed, there’s not a whole lot of lag and it’s a powerful engine so it will get you moving fast!

I am loving this, though I’m now 0/4 in surviving the flight lol.  This time after a fantastic flight cruising along the beaches in western Florida from Clearwater south I stalled out on final though I thought I was plenty above the stall speed for a flaps 30 approach.

I’m going to spend a good chunk of this long weekend learning how to fly the aircraft well, but for now I need to go spend some time in the FBW A320 to restore my virtual pilot ego lol.

Anyone on the fence, go for it.  I’m not normally one for flying classic warbirds but this aircraft is just too much fun to pass up and it makes a great high speed VFR cruiser if that’s what you want to do.

I just did my first flight. KSAN (addon) to KSBA (addon)

300 KTS at 2,500ft right across LA

Fantastic aircraft.

Takeoff and landing were about "perfect" but the focus you have to give is like no other aircraft.

I have just one wish, Milviz would give an option to delete the upfrount glass HUD.

Ive just put every aircraft I have in the hanger, I am blown away at how good this is and the iceing on the cake is FPS is by far the best of any aircraft. The views with TrackIR apart from that glass HUD glass are wonderfull.

The textures inside and out are 10/10 aircraft 9/10

O the size the more I look the more I thnk it is that big! lol

So this is my first time flying a plane like this and I'm adoring it (after dying about 4 times trying to get off the ground!). I'm a terrible pilot, so this might be a really stupid question, but I'm curious about is the elevator trim---whereabout do most people find they need to set it for level flight? I know this depends on a lot, but running at ~55% throttle (probably full RPMs as I hadn't adjusted the prop) at about 1000 feet my trim was set around -9 degrees to keep the nose from wanting to climb. Is this normal?

Depends on the payload and speed, as you say. Different fuel levels and stuff hung off the underneath the aeroplane change how it behaves quite a lot. But you should note that the Corsair was originally designed to drop bombs, so its wings create a lot of lift, which means it will typically need to be trimmed down to fly level.

Generally speaking, an aft centre of gravity will pitch the nose down, a forward C of G will pitch it up, so if you check that in the sim on the loadout screen, you will have a fair idea of what trim will be required.

The natural control surface settings for most Navy warplanes with little or no trim dialled in, tended to be when they were flying at their best long-range cruise speed. This makes sense of course, because with less control surface deflections from applying trim, there is less drag, and you want to minimise drag when cruising around in a Navy combat aeroplane, since it has to range far and wide, conduct patrols and do pretty long range attack and escort missions. Less drag means more speed for less thrust, better fuel consumption and greater range; all things which the Navy wanted for its aeroplanes.

So it shouldn't come as a surprise to find that some speeds will need a lot of trim, and it's worth noting too that if you weren't meant to use that much trim, they would not have made the trim tabs capable of going to those settings! In short, whatever trim setting you need in order to have the aeroplane do what you want it to do, is the right setting.

Here's the manual for the real thing if you are interested in all the right settings for cruise speeds and stuff.

Thank you Chock, you're a gentleman and all of that makes a ton of sense. I guess I was a little freaked out after going from my C152 to a warplane. Love the manual, I'll have some fun going through that.

And thanks for the review, it's what convinced me to pull the trigger on it.

...they just keep getting better and better!

This is a *must* buy if you relish a challenging (!!!) super-husky warbird, and is keeping me happily busy and distracted until the AS CRJ matures in its ILS capabilities! 🙂

Propeller drag (along with quite a few other prop dynamics) is not modelled in the current sim.  Even feathered a big prop like the corsair ( over 13 feet diameter) should contribute a fair bit to drag.

The Corsair devs may have fudged in some factor to account for the lack of prop drag in the basic MSFS flight mechanics of course.

The overhead break landing pattern is flown to land  warbirds because these aircraft are slippery and hard to slow down.

On Milviz website it specifically says that the Corsair is for MSFS Standard Edition? Big bold font at the bottom of the page where you click ‘buy”. I presume it works with Premium Deluxe version? Seems an odd statement to make in that case.

I assume they are stating firstly it is for MSFS (not P3D/Warthunder/whatever) and secondly that you ONLY need standard edition for it to work and it does not rely on any features of the addon versions.
