Icing in the Bonanza

Soon your airspeed drops, you lose altitude, eventually stall and crash. Ask me how I know.

So ice actually affects aerodynamics now? When did that happen? The last time I encountered any serious ice in the TBM, which was many patches ago, it turned into a glacier but kept flying as though the airframe were completely clean.  Haven't dealt with icing lately because I've been doing mainly Caribbean flying while I wait for them to fix the framerate problems elsewhere.

There is a setting somewhere that deactivates the effects of icing, but still shows the icing on the plane. My guess is that you have the setting turned on. Sorry, can't remember exactly where that setting is... I think it is in the Assistance page...

It is a nice setting, unfortunately it doesn't work.

Do you mean icing will never work?  I have it to show only without affecting the flight.

The setting is visual only, I believe. But that isn't true at least in 3 different aircraft I have flown. As the ice builds up, airspeed goes down, and finally with full power, you stall. Go up to Canada or Alaska, and see for yourself on a cold day.

Agree the setting is likely broken, many people have reported aerodynamic effects on "visual only".  This is why I am suspect of any 3rd party aircraft that don't show the visual effects of icing (since the aerodynamic effects may be present even on the "visual only" setting when no visuals are shown!)

As I said before that will only do the windscreen

That is true. But that is all the original poster asked for. 😉

The 172s have serious problems with icing even with the setting of 'visual only'. I set up shortcuts to turn on all types of heating and the plane will fly albeit with badly reduced performance. If you only use the pitot heat switch that the plane panel offers, you will be in serious trouble. Although it is true that icing is no joke in the real world, I would like the option to ignore it in the flightsim world.

I think if you read my response to the OP, it is pretty clear.

Why not just set the weather to something that won't cause icing?

Well, I still want real world weather I just don't want it to spoil my day. 🙂

i have given up flying in the North when it is cold or snowy, always winds up in a hassle.

Flying today in the Bonanza, my windows were frozen solid.  The panel has switches for Pitot heat and Prop deice, but nothing else.  Am I correct in understanding thee is no way to clear ice?

Review the real plane's cockpit and specifications and do like someone said above, 'don't fly in icing conditions'.  I wouldn't turn off weather just choose a different aircraft for the type of flying and conditions your in.

Exactly. Icing’s a limiting factor that needs to be planned for. A general rule would be to avoid visible moisture below 10 degrees Celsius in aircraft without de-icing capabilities.
