PMS50 GTN750 Mod - Just Wow

Recommended Posts

1 hour ago, FreeBird(Josh) said:

This is from the developer.

Carenado will soon publish some of its aircrafts with the GTN750 option.
There is currently a bug in the Sim’s code that CTD if more than 4 maps in the same airplane.
Asobo should fix that in the next sim update coming at the end of May.
The Arrow and the Seneca will be affected by this bug.

Here is the way to fly them with the GTN750:

Remove the GNS530 Mod from your community folder if you use it (because it introduces one more map).
Immediately after starting your aircraft, switch to the GTN750 from the Carenado cockpit tablet.
Do not switch back to the GNS530 after that
Do not touch any button of the GNS430
You should not have this issue in the Ovation or in the Seminole.
As this is a known issue, thank you to not report a bug for that. Both Carenado and PMS50 can’t do anything about that. We just have to wait for the fix from Asobo.

But we don't have the Carenado Arrow do we. Or do YOU?

No I don't have it. I think your right this is about Carenados but it might also be a issue with the just flight arrow.I have turned mine off for now.

Since using this I’ve noticed an increase in CTD so I’ve removed it from my community folder and things have got better.  Anyone else see an increase in CTD?

The only CTD I've ever had was with the JF Arrow III while using the 750 in it. Whether to say it was the 750 or the Arrow III or just coincidence. *shrug*

Probably the "4 map bug" that Asobo have scheduled to fix next patch.

It apparently causes issues with mods like the GTN750 in aircraft that can swap in multiple GPS units. I am unclear on the exact details.

Humm.  So how well can you fly the RNAV (GPS) 15 or 33 approaches into KUMP in IFR conditions (relying on the MSFS GTN)?  Can't find them?  Neither can I.  Just one of many examples.  How about the RNAV (GPS) 26L approach into KSUS, arriving from the west with a course reversal (hold) at CHADD?  That one was there in Garmin NAV databases (and RXP) as far back as 2015.  My RXP GTN database is I believe from May 2020.  My RXP GNS database is significantly more current than that.  And I have yet to find a published approach in the USA that is not in those two databases.  Incomplete databases have more flaws than slightly non-current ones.

@fppilot

A bit late but......

PMS50 GTN uses the NavData from the sim !

With Navigraph you will get them (I checked both, KUMP as well as KSUS). Not with the standard BlueNavData in MSFS as it looks.

And this is the main advantage of the PMS50 GTN over the RXP GTN. With Navigraph you can have actual navdata.

Exemple - 2 month ago "my" home airport introduced SID's for the first time, with the next cycle from Navigraph I got them all.

The beta?  Yes.  The missing approaches at KUMP are there in the Navigraph beta.  But other nav database features are not and that may be due to limitations in the MSFS coding.  For instance procedure turns, course reversals, etc are still not available, and not all IAFs are available in the sim.  It appears, and I say it appears that the IAFs that are in play are those that may be exit points from published Arrivals.  GA aircraft do not typically get pushed into flying Arrival procedures that are designed to accomodate larger and faster commercial traffic.  A good example is this approach to KBUF.  MSFS with the Navigraph Beta only offers BUNGE and ROC as IAFs for the approach, which for GA forces flying unnecessary long legs. Fine for a 737.  Silly for a Bonanza or 172.  TOPKE and WASKI are not offered as IAFs.  Just an example.  In the Garmin navdata all of the IAFs are offered and usable.

@fppilot Something wrong with your Navigraph ? Navigraph Chart for KBUF RNAV Y RWY 23 offers all IAF, including TOPKE and WASKI.

At least for me (Jeppesen 17 APR 20 / 12-3).

Hey I'm sold, so where can I get this mod and what's involved in integrating it with other aircraft like the Bonanza, etc?

The fixes are all there in Navigraph fppilot.  So in your example yes you can't select TOPKE as your IAF but so what?  Just select ROC as your IAF, activate the approach and then go direct to TOPKE and you will skip the ROC waypoint.  On the CJ4 you can delete ROC and then you will go direct TOPKE.

Right but shouldn't have to do that.  Any IAF, IF or transition should be selectable.  You can do a lot with workarounds in MSFS.... But I don't want workarounds - I'd prefer to have working avionics.

Are you serious?  What in the earth do you believe RXP uses?  Actual Garmin world nav databases, that's what!  And they are more complete and comprehensive that the Navigraph Beta data for MSFS.  They include the fixes you manipulate to as easily selectible as IAF's in setting up the approach.

How about holds and course rreversals.  And in your second message you indicate you are doing D→.  Does this mod add that capability?

The mod and its options are here: https://pms50.com/msfs/

For most of the compatible default aircraft (those that use the g1000) you simply add the mod files (base GTN750 + included aircraft package) to your community folder.

I've found it works with the following without further adjustments - be sure to remove the WT g1000 mod in all cases first:

  • C172
  • C208B (unmodded & modded)
  • Bonanza G36 (unmodded)

Once you get into modded versions of the Bonanza you need to adapt a little:

  • G36 Improvement Project: use the G36 aircraft package - make sure the improvement project mod folder is still loaded last.
  • Bonanza Turbo V3: use the G36 aircraft package.  You will no longer have the special g1000 engine feature for leaning, but you will gain a lot of functionality with the GTN750

There are 4 aircraft packages included for the Diamond DA40 and DA62 aircraft (both the modded and unmodded versions).  I haven't flown these aircraft yet and some have reported issues.  I'm looking forward to trying them out in the future.

Anyone have any experience with the Metar info on this unit?  I have a AVWX account and I entered the activation key a few times, but it keeps saying "No data available",  The key is a couple digits short of the allotted line while entering the key, but as I read the manual, this shouldn't be an issue.

I had an issue with the code entry. I got I and l mixed up where I'd entered capital I but should've entered lower case L (or other way around don't remember for sure). My code was 1 digit short of max but that's fine. Worked fine after I got the code in right.
