May 18, 20215 yr I tend to get the Pro version. Any of you fly it already? Karl i9-9900K@5,0 | 32GB 3200 | 2080TI | 4K 55" | MSFS | P3D V5
May 18, 20215 yr I think it is too pricey for what it is. I don't doubt that it's probably pretty good, but it's a bit too specialist to garner large sales coming in at that kind of price tag. The fact that they felt compelled to knock out a basic version of it for much less means the developers know it too. I'm sure they put a lot of work into it and are proud of their effort, but at the end of the day, a product is worth what people will pay for it, and clearly nobody was buying the expensive version if they had to resort to knocking out a cheaper version with far less features, but who is going to buy that and settle for second best? It's a classic example of misjudging the market, and especially when people are already leaving P3D in droves. May 18, 20215 yr Flying the much cheaper “lite” version with a Pilots discount Great fun -reminds me of Maurice Jahn,s C47 with some extras Like it very much-must have been a wonderful way to travel the world xxd09
May 18, 20215 yr Author Yes, saw your post over at the RTMM Forum. Karl i9-9900K@5,0 | 32GB 3200 | 2080TI | 4K 55" | MSFS | P3D V5
May 18, 20215 yr Author I just got it. I will report then.... Karl i9-9900K@5,0 | 32GB 3200 | 2080TI | 4K 55" | MSFS | P3D V5
May 18, 20215 yr I got the pro version some time ago directly from Pilot´s for a so called special price at EUR 79.95 instead of EUR 89.95. Shortly after this, it was introduced at Simmarket for EUR 55.95. Now we can have it still for EUR 79.95 at Pilot´s and 69.05 at Simmarket. I don´t like these price policies and obviously false promises. The plane in pro version is great. I didn´t find a bug, can confirm it´s a bit dark inside. You need the torch to find the light switches. Starting engines is difficult but with the procedure in front one can do it and gets all engines running. I have not noticed problems with the autopilot. It is not an autopilot of nowadays standard. It´s a historic plane. Looks like this basic version makes the whole thing interesting again. But what´s the backdraw, if you get the basic instead of the pro? May 18, 20215 yr I don’t see the point in having a ‘lite’ version. You either learn the genuine article or give up. Simple.
May 20, 20215 yr Author Did my first in depth flight with the Clipper. That's exactly what I like: system depth. I think I will have much fun with this airplane. Karl i9-9900K@5,0 | 32GB 3200 | 2080TI | 4K 55" | MSFS | P3D V5
May 20, 20215 yr Perhaps it would be slightly churlish to say that any flight sim by definition is not the genuine article Those aficionados that fly “lite” versions probably get most of their kicks by taking to the air like a bird in the many and various planes available and flying in the many fantastic sceneries provided especially by MSFS2020 its certainly what I do -checklists don’t do it for me -each to their own Thats the wonder of this hobby xxd09
May 20, 20215 yr Author Nice scenery is no disadvantage, even in an airplane with system depth. Karl i9-9900K@5,0 | 32GB 3200 | 2080TI | 4K 55" | MSFS | P3D V5
May 21, 20215 yr I have the Pro or heavy version, had it from day 1. It is a very comprehensive sim experience but it was never going to have a huge market after all Boeing never built more than a dozen of them and they were all gone shortly a few years after WW2. That said it is a project that took a long time to come to fruition and it is a classic flying boat. There are a lot of interior updates (make it lighter) and some additional liveries at SimOutHouse. Unlikely to see it ever done again so why not? But then I have always been a flying boat affecionado and now in P3D with NVIDIA wave motion etc it is a very enjoyable and you can make it a very challengine experience. Not easy to get going but hey neither was the real one it was the pinnacle of an era in early automated systems and piston engines - so that is what you get by today's standards hideously complex or as Ernest K Gann once said of of some other like machines at the time ' a techinical monstrosity'. Thats why they had 2 pilots, a flight engineer, a radio operator and a navigator! Edited May 21, 20215 yr by coastaldriver

May 23, 20215 yr blaunarwal - I am not sure if they were uploaded here - they were uploaded to the SOH Library along with a few other paints.

May 24, 20215 yr I bought the Pro version shortly after it came out - a day or two after. Honestly, I haven't completed ONE proper flight. It's a pretty intimidating endeavour with no virtual flight engineer etc... At least when you fly A2A Connie, there is an AI FE... PMDG's DC-6 for MSFS will also have one. It's a little too much for me to hop between all these different stations all the time, so... it's a bit of a wasted purchase FOR NOW, I am afraid.
