Very blurry textures at high altitude

Also looking back at OPs original screenshot. I'm calling shenanigans. Why is everything so weirdly FS9 looking in shape with the landmass? I wouldn't even know how to purposely make it look that bad and retro.

You DON'T know how to purposely make it look that bad, yet you suspect "shenanigans". What a logic 🙂

BTW I believe I have identified a solution, I am still testing it and if I get consistent results I will post it. Let's cross fingers.

I am curious, did you fix it? I am also having similar issue whereby it happens sometimes the textures will be very blurry and some other instants the textures will be fine.

Partially... see here:

I can absolutely confirm the blurry textures as noted in OP.  Now..it is true they have been like that in some areas since day 1.

I don't think the SU4 has anything to do with it, and it is more to do with not good imagery in those locations.  I have not compared the imagery in the exact location from eg SU3 to 4, which is your best evidence.

But, for instance, when USA world update came out it vastly improved texture in some areas, but there are also huge parts of US that aren't updated.  I am not sure if they should be at that low of detail though (think just blob).

Someone needs to post before and after to really know though.

I don't think this is a regional issue. It even happens with default ground textures (when Bing aerial imagery is turned off), it seems like it is solely a texture LOD issue.

PC specs: i5-12400F, RTX 3070 Ti and 32 GB of RAM.

Simulators I'm using: X-Plane 12, Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020) and FlightGear.

I was using US as an example.  I agree it occurs in the world.  I just don't know if it is SU4 related or has always been there.

I don't recall seeing really low textures in London for example although for some reason my FPS drops to like 4 there without any addons and I did not have this problem before SU4.  In fact..I have had pockets in US as well (only 2 places I've flown since SU4) where the FPS drop below 10 and/or completely CTD the sim.

And yes I have probably one of the highest end systems available and 1tb internet.

I have never flown out of Murmansk before, so I don't have a comparison shot from SU3. Another user confirmed the issue at Murmansk and I don't think I have found the only place affected after a few hours.

Moreover, the US World Update introduced the coastline glitch and increased mountain morphing, two issues nobody talks about anymore unfortunately. The truth is that after every update we are here discussing new issues, which are always more than the ones they fix.

For example I also found out that the A320 and 787 autopilot, which I managed to make work before with a little trick (select DIR - waypoint as soon as I set the approach) now make the a/c drift outbound of the last waypoint when I insert the approach procedure dictated by the ATC.

I am currently reinstalling Windows and MSFS. Not because I believe it will fix anything, just to have a clean platform in order to open a couple of tickets with Zendesk accompanied by video proof. And because I have nothing better to do now 🙂

I checked mine from 40,000 feet. Definitely better then the OPs. Check your camera effects... depth of field setting. LOL

Folks the assumption here is because one person is not seeing it then it doesn't exist.  Just ask Asobo how long it took for them to realize issues with real time weather or clouds.

Some people see it and others don't.  It could be related to internet connection or it could be a bug.

In fairness to Asobo, that's what makes troubleshooting on PC difficult because not everyone's experience will be the same.  It is only after you have large enough sample size (hence upvoting system) that you can recognize a larger problem.

And yes Asobo admits fixing even the tiniest thing can impact another thing.

My settings have not changed.  You saying you checked at 40,000 feet means nothing.  I have checked at 40,000 feet and have amazing LOD...in some areas.

We aren't necessarily comparing apples to apples.

I haven't noticed  a single post suggesting the OP was seeing things.

A couple of weeks ago, I was  flying around the South West US and at about 5,000 feet and noticed that the terrain looked like a 15 year old sim. It looked terrible. I checked to make sure I was still online, which I was/ I finished the flight, and started a new flight after I landed and everything looked fine.  I suspect this was caused by a server issue.

This might indeed be the cause. Perhaps too much load on the servers which cause them to stream smaller data.

Also DL stutters might appear because of this.

I wonder what is going to happen when X Box goes online, if they use the same servers, it won't be good.

Indeed, this might be a reason too.

It is most likely a combination of multiple reasons, which is sadly making Asobo's job extremely hard. Terrain LOD is definitely a reason as I see blurry textures even when using offline mode. Probably server load is making blurries even worse, resulting in terrible visuals like OP's screenshot.
