Perhaps your post made them rethink their policy. 😉

I don't know. But the results is all I care about. Now they have committed to making their stuff work on P3D 5.2, and that's all I really wanted. I love the sim, I can't help it. I can't see myself dropping P3D over a developer or two because it has SO MUCH that I love in it by so many great devs. I'd be quicker to drop MilViz on both P3D AND MSFS than P3D as a platform, no offense to them.

@BostonJeremy77, you never know. A year ago Navigraph wrote to all subscribers of their FMS data to advise them they were being “upgraded” to a new package that included Charts. They failed to mention the price rise was considerable for something we didn’t need.

Lots of us complained on their forum and within two days that decision had been reversed. That’s the collective power members have. I’m not saying the posts on Milviz made them rethink but they may have done.

Oh you have no idea... I got so much flack on MSFS forums because Golden Age has released their Kinner B-2 on MSFS for $30. It was straight out of FSX in terms of textures/meshes. It was an EYESORE. Flew well, but looked like it belonged in FSX. After I posted a review of it including their decision to lower the price literally hours after I bought it, they have removed the product from sale on SimMarket and offered the whole thing as a freeware. After realizing they don't really want to learn all the new skills it would take to produce MSFS aircraft, they have decided to go back to FSX/P3D... which I applaud. Nothing wrong with realizing your limitations. But the couple of people on MSFS forums who really liked the aircraft and didn't care what it looks like STILL to this day bring that up and how the community drove a developer out of MSFS... Well, I stand by what I said - if you can't do it well, don't do it. But that still follows me around. Oh well.

Colin from MilViz just responded to me on MSFS forums with this too... Probably worth posting here too.

The intention is, and I say this not as a promise but more as a general statement… to update as and when we can, all of our P3D v4 products to v5. Again, this is as and when we can.

We are, right now, totally slagged with contracts with the military as well as pipeline projects for msfs. Choices have to be made and the choice was, and remains, to go where there’s more potential for us to, yes, make that horrible thing called money.

We have 40+ people working for the company (and are looking for more peeps so if you’re able and willing, contact me via DM… great pay and flexible hours) and they all have to eat… (and drink…) (sleep? not so much).

Anyway… we will see what we can do.

Well, it's nice that he's done that and frankly nice that he's admitted what so many developers won't say about having to make commercial decisions that put P3D etc behind MSFS.

That said, when you make software products for a living, it's expected that you will have resource ring-fenced to fix and update your existing products for the platforms you support. Short of Milviz announcing that they're dropping all support for P3D, I strongly believe that they (and other developers) have an obligation to their existing customers to support what they built and to retain the capability to do that as and when needed. They're not 2 men in a shed, they're a 40+ person company.

Today July 10 2021 there is still no update for the Weather Radar in P3D V5.2/P3D V5.2 Hot Fix 1🥺

Don't expect results on this any time soon.  LM has modded the way weather works and that means it's likely that we will have to redo the WXR from scratch.  We are considering our options but... it's not going to be soon.  That's for sure.  Apologies.

Thanks for the honest update. I'd still very much like a working weather radar for v5 please.

I'd really like to know more about the challenges here from someone 'behind the curtain', as to what LM has changed that makes it difficult? I'm assuming when you're talking about redoing the WX this is for EA, with it being fundamentally a different weather engine? Not asking for product updates or estimates, but I genuinely have wondered, even before EA, how it was that each update seemed to break every weather radar out there. You would have thought that with it being such an important tool in aviation for training that LM would have stabilised the API around this long ago. Or even provided a default implementation.

From what I've heard, the weather system in MSFS is even less open to developers than P3D, but IIRC the default A320 has WX so obviously Asobo has created a default implementation, presumably that makes it easier because you could work from that.

In order to make the WX work properly in P3D, P3D/REX and P3D/ASN, we had to use hooks.  When LM recompiled that area, we had to redo those hooks. In some cases, it was easier than others.  Sometimes, it wasn’t easy at all.

When LM made the update/change to EA, it totally broke the way the WXR worked.  So, we now have no choice but to redo it IF we decide to move ahead.  That decision has yet to be made.

For MSFS, we do not have access to the base code for the WXR so we can’t mod it to our “needs”. This is just one of the many things that are not (yet) possible in that sim.

We are porting some our stuff to v5.2 but, again, this isn’t a promise and we don’t have a timeline.

I will add that, at this time, we are no longer developing for P3D except as it pertains to milsim projects.

I don’t use EA mode preferring the alternative. Is the Wx Radar broken for that too? Did the non-EA mode weather change with the latest hotfix too?

Is it possible to define which mode the user wants to select when installing the gauge so those who prefer non-EA mode can avoid this problem?

Unfortunately, it’s broken either way.

That’s a pity. Thanks for posting here. Hopefully this hotfix will be the last related to weather and you don’t have to keep fixing what is a very useful gauge.

By me it stops many planes from flying normally without the Weather Radar updated.
