I know that the thought/hope/wish that new lighting will be part of XP11 is entertained by many. Some hope to skip the expense of buying a new version, some hope that it might arrive faster that way.

While there is no clear confirmation by LR on this (in general they are very tight-lipped about announcing a new version of XP or what it´s name will be), it is blatantly obvious to everyone even remotely following announcements and hints by various top-level members of LR that this new lighting will not be included in XP11.

Everyone is free to hope and dream, of course. I personally hope for world peace!

Ok but what can we expect with regard to future updates for XP11? It would seem that XP12 is a lifetime away.

My guess: There are no further updates planned. Even 11.55 would not have happened if it wasn´t for SAM that discovered the instancing crash bug.

As for the next version of X-Plane being "a lifetime away": It depends on the species you belong to. Or how old you are. If you belong to the family of Ephemeroptera...you may not live to see the next version, true.

I really don't think they have decided either way - and leaving so much unfixed in 11.50 actually implies to me we should probably expect 11.60

If XP12 came out tomorrow, and was well known to CTD after 5 minutes of flight, I would still buy it, XP is the first thing ever I would pre order.

If XP12 came out tomorrow, and was practically perfect in every way I would still want the lighting fixed in XP11, SSAO and shadows are supposed to work in XP11, its not a feature request to have shadows that aren't half missing, clouds that do not:

and SSAO that is not - in Bens own words - very very broken.

XP12 is good with an art asset overhaul, a new UI color scheme and lots of new toys for 3PDs to make even better aircraft more easily. Fixing XP11 would NOT devalue that in any way.

Ain´t gonna happen. Mark my words.

If XP12 and XP11 are broken there aint no point in buying XP12. If anyone wants broken but looks nicer, MS already have that covered.

XP 11 is over, time to move on.

We're all going to be using XP11 up and until a new release is stable regardless, in another 4 or 5 years or so, just like with XP10.

I think this is an issue. I would only buy XP12 if certain features were included and there was some commitment to further development...

So how many people will continue to just stick with XP11? And how will that impact the sales / funding / for future development of XP12 after release?

TSW2 still has less players than train simulator 2021...which is 2 generations behind.

plenty are still using XP10 even now you know

When I bought XP10 it came with a freely upgradable licence to XP11, I used XP10 for around two years (iirc - actually more FSX) while XP11 was fixed up (didn't really start using it for flight until around 11.30)

I think the main impact if they don't fix up XP11 will be that new people will not be attracted to broken XP11 & broken XP12, whereas solid XP11 + the promise of new development of XP12 is a great offering even for existing users.

I'm also confident enough that LR themselves haven't decided yet, or they wouldn't be so coy with their wording.

Firsly your reply to the previous post is incorrect . when i said XP11 is over that meant we want a brand new gorgeous looking sim.

you gotta show proof of XP10 users and I will take my answer back. you usually do come up with some kinda so called proof !

You don't understand the scenario of the current status of the flight sim industry ,  with msfs visuals the game has changed and no one will wait that long for a product just to be stable, i will follow the path of "The Uninstaller aka @jcomm" if i have to wait 4-5 years.

Ofc you are most welcome to stay on XP11 till then

used XP11 since day one and never looked back at XP10 , and let me tell you , no software is ever stable. Something or the other will be broken / buggy etc..

about 2% of those who bought it since 2014

Including John Bray, author of the freeware Tigre and Gazzelle - because his PC wasn't powerfull enough to run XP11.

Thats exactly my point tho

11.60, add the lighting, and in the process fix the cloud lighting, SSAO and shadows - the worst of XP11s remaining issues - get something highly competitive in ~6 months, with a user base to shout about it.

or

wait to add everything in XP12, and have nothing competitive with XP11 for the time it takes to get a new major version stable (at least 3 years, generally more) and starting from zero users.

Agreed, but I think the best offering is commitment to frequent development.

Exactly, I think that the community now realizes this, which is why engagement and frequent / future development is much more important than what is released on day 1.

When DTG released TSW2, they also released a general roadmap / timeline for when things would be added / included, one being the longstanding support for the RailDriver controller. "Major" quarterly / monthly updates are becoming the norm these days...

I think that LR will need to assure folks that it will be committed to frequent development, especially if XP12 falls short of any requested / anticipated features on day 1.
