Yes.

Then I don't even know what you're waiting for.  Make a pitch to Austin, and take over X-Plane.  You could make a killing with XP12!  You could even partner with him!

After your edit, it changes the whole thing.  Working for a company with tens of millions is not you having tens of millions.  I worked for a company with billions.  McDonalds.

Not my cup of tea. If I were to invest I'd want him out. I've lost too much money investing in one man bands.

Let me ask you this, (I'll humor you and say Ok, you have a net worth running into the tens of millions....just for arguments sake).

You run a successful company, consistently turning a profit.  Would you appreciate it if someone told you how to run your company?

(Gotta laugh at the 5 pages of debating with 1 person after posting news of an update.)

I'm no success story. But I did own and run a successful company for most of my life. But I Hancocked myself sadly.  If you live in the UK you will understand what that means. However I do understand business and know that there comes a time where a sole owner should hand over the reigns.

Net worth in the tens of millions, but doesn't consider himself a success story.  Alarm bells are ringing, John.

Ok, your response, in no way, answers my question, directly.  But I can easily answer the question for you, based on your posts.

And on that note, I would rather do something useful with my time.  I've entertained you enough.  And you've revealed more than enough about yourself to me and many others here.

The update is out.  I've linked you to the release notes.  And your question about the update and what it contains has been answered.

Have a nice day.

Indeed it has. Bit of a damp squib don't you think? Not really worth you starting this thread imo.

No.  5 pages of discussion.

True enough.😀

EDIT. Revealed myself? I have nothing to hide? I am 64, have been married for 42 years, have kids and grandchildren. We live in a nice house in Torquay by the sea.

He sat back on his laurels in my opinion

Who would you have hired, how much would you have paid them, and what would you have had them do?

What profit would it make you?

I would have sold LR before the release of MSFS and lived happily ever after.

Congratulations. I’m happy for you and your family. Maybe enjoy the seaside instead of arguing over flight sims and preaching what you think Austin should do with his life.

You seem to miss that Austin doesn't really do it for the money

Yeah right. He does it out of passion. If he is passionate you would think he would have made a sufficient investment in order to keep X-Plane up to date? But no. Three men in a shed will do just fine.

What do you think is out of date?

EDIT: To clarify, the art assets look dated, but only because the lighting model is dated, and Austin has said he invested in Eastern European to overhaul the art assets - we've just not seen them yet.

I think his general buisness model plot is pretty decent, concentrate on the core sim, leave and assist 3rd parties to fill the gaps.

Well, I will repeat it again:

Laminar Research does not have the manpower, financial might or data at its disposal that Microsoft has.

They can not "just hire" 200 developers for 5 years and throw a global satellite imagery bank at them together with unlimited streaming for every user. This is something that only a company can do that extorted billions out of pretty much everyone on earth that uses a computer over the last few decades 🙂

Jarmstro has obviously no idea about the composure of Laminar Research these days, otherwise he would not make ridiculous statements like he does, but we have to give him the benefit of ignorance.

LR consists of several dozen developers spread out over the world, but the company has grown recently only in response to its financial gains. There is no software giant behind them that can fork out whatever it takes - they are growing organically with their user base.

So if you are frustrated with the speed of development at LR...it is what it is. They are taking it one step at a time, as fast as they can.

We all agree that MSFS looks better, and if that is what floats your boat, please by all means fly MSFS. You don´t need to convince anyone, MSFS is ahead in that regard, no one will argue it.

There is no way that LR can match the satellite and photogrammetry imagery so don´t hold your breath for XP12 if you think that it will look better than MSFS.

XP12 will not look as good as MSFS, but it will still be the better overall flight simulator, just like XP11 is already better than MSFS in so many regards today ...except the visuals. 😉
