Although I can enjoy an occasional exchange of snarky remarks and the exposure of freakishly long toes by some in this forum, I sincerely wonder why those of you who are so utterly defensive about everything regarding X-Plane would not just make use of the ignore function this forum so kindly offers, LOL.

Cheers, Bert

No.  Just that 1 thing.

But you are completely wrong about this. I've had X-Plane for many years and have spent well over £1000 on addons for it including planes from X-Aviation.

I hope you're not saying that to give yourself some kind of license to wrongly criticize anything and everything you don't like about X-Plane and XA add ons.

This is all the more reason you WOULD know about the beta and release candidate processes.  But ok.

What turned me off it was the attitude of it's so called community with regard to MSFS the minute it was released.

You must be kidding.  The amount of hate I saw towards not only X-Plane, but to Austin himself, was disgusting.  People saying Austin will kill himself now because X-Plane is dead.  Not once did I see this kind of hate towards MSFS or Asobo.

That's very big of you, but I hope you did the same when the MSFS community were hurling abuse at Austin, LR and X-Plane.  I doubt it, though.

Indeed.  The attacks I saw against Austin were quite abhorrent.

I know.  Which is why it strikes me as odd that you still take an interest.

On AVSIM forums, as far as I remember and with the exception of maybe one or two persons, I didn't read abuse and personal attacks againts MSFS and Asobo.

Certainly, a LOT less than the abuse and personal attacks against XP and Austin in the MSFS forum (and in the XP forum!), even before MSFS release. And from a multitude of members.

When it comes to how I choose to spend my time and money judgement is mine. My criticism of XP remains consistent - it's out of date. And it shouldn't be beta process notwithstanding. If they have a new lighting model then get it into the sim!

Hence, and I care not a jot whether you believe me, my question.

I guess you missed all teh posts about xplane finished, all from the other word not allowed. Another topic closed .

Congratulations in advance, John.  I see a topic, with 3 words in its TP, getting locked, because you can't help yourself.

I think the more precise term you are looking for is "dated".

And I'll reiterate here what I've said before - Its not, they made some really bad decisions 4 years ago or so - but mostly fixed them - albeit gradually.

But if you are referring to the graphics - not really.

There is a choice, fairly clunky graphics with a long view distance

High quality graphics with a very short view distance.

XP went with the former, MSFS with the later.

That's not a criticism of either, they have different design goals and serve a different market. Plus it sucks for everyone equally.

Well that's not wholly true. In fact the reverse is true for the two sims regarding clouds. But that's beside the point, If they have a new lighting model then why isn't it in the sim? For me it would make all the difference. That's why I asked. All these trivial betas are not resolving the core issue in that the sim looks, to use your own word, dated. Why won't they get their act together and give people what they want?

The story of LR is one of sloth and complacency. I mean, even this ridiculously minor update is a beta? The despair I can stand. It's the hope I can't!

Let me sum it up:

1) No new features are coming to V11, AKA new lighting, scenery or whatever they are going to preview as a "next gen" tech.

2) Why? because this work cost $$$ and they want to profit but also:

3) They need to obey to their own decided minimum specs for V11, changing graphics will also change system requirements something that can't be done in a middle of a product run, not to say even probably the last few months of V11.

TL;DR be patient, they are working on all the stuff we want and it'll be XP12 or any other name they choose, allegedly the end of this year as austin commented on youtube.

Of course they will. In the new version.

FSX was out of date. Did MS offer the new lighting, clouds, and visuals in an FSX update or in a completely new version?

XP12 will be worth it just for the new scenery assets, no one is asking them to bundle boat loads of new valuable stuff into XP11

Just fix the #### already there.

XP12 won't be worth it if it comes with the same list of BS problems + new ones.

Lack of timely investment and a three bods in a shed mentality is the problem. Sell LR to a company with the drive, the will and resources to do it justice.

nope, no hope there either, All we'd get then is a sim targeted at consoles with all the hard problems papered over with glossy graphics and marketing hyperbole.

Not necessarily. Depends on who it's sold to. After all we are told that Meyers only does it out of his passion for aviation.
