DC-6 and my appalling performance

Featured Replies

OK, don't slap me down, I have yet to read the manual and watch the tutorials. BUT, starting up the aircraft at a number of different airports, I fail to get anything above 21-23fps! Outside views are OK, but inside the VC is where the trouble starts.I've been around long enough to understand that it's not about frames but about smoothness 🙂But crikey, this is crazy. I've read from loads of people reporting that performance is on par with some of the default aircraft (??) I mean, look at my specs I7-9700@5Ghz, 32GB RAM, RTX3090!! I run at 4K, but on other aircraft I easily hit 40fps in most scenarios. All settings are set at high, not ultra. Is anyone else experiencing this? Or is there something I'm missing? I'd be interested in hearing some thoughts. Thanks.

that seems low for your specs...can you enable dev mod, display FPS and tell us where is the bottleneck ?

Whoa. That is way too low for your rig imho. I’m running most on Ultra on my ryzen 3900x with a 2080Ti at 3440x1440 and have good perf most of the time.

Hi Claude, this is extraordinary. I thought I had found the culprit ie, the Real Sim Gear driver for the GNS530. Once I removed it from the community folder, the framerate went back up to 35fps, which is more or less what I would expect sat at a fairly big airport. I thought I had found the problem, but then when I tried to verify the results elsewhere, the fps bombed back down to round about 20! I have tried at Gatwick, Bristol and Charles De Gaule, each never reaching above 23fps. Even on restarting the framerates never went back to that one time when they reached 35...odd. The monitor is set at 60Hz, the framerate in the sim either 30 or 60 never makes any difference, neither having Vsync on or off. My settings are very average considering my system specs. I feel there is so external effect at play here. BTW, I have no AI aircraft either live or otherwise.

Change both your LOD back to 100. Your CPU is maxed out.

Claude, I don't think that will make any difference as all other aircraft are fine. The DC-6 basically is returning about 50% of other aircraft. 😉 There's something specifically at play which is affecting ony this aircraft.

Listen to me. This game is not multithreaded very well. Certain threads are all piled up on the same core. LOD adds of lot to your CPU, it has nothing to do with your amazing GPU that you have. This aircraft simulate more than any other aircraft in MSFS. That takes more CPU cycle away from what would be to render a higher LOD. In other to relief your CPU, you need to lower down your LOD when you fly the DC-6. On July 27th, there is a performance build that should help a lot with CPU threads by moving the CoherantGTDraw process to a different core. When that happen, you can probably go back to LOD 150. For now, you need to lower it down to 100. Your fps will be back in the 30s.

Hi Howard.

Thoughts, your PC is on par with mine and a better GPU.

I can have 2 things that limit FPS, as you have main thread bound or GPU bound. Now before I start your running 4k am not 4k is a huge hit.

So I would like you to try

1) Turn render scale down to 80%

2) Try and take the work off you CPU to your GPU.

Here are my setting. That I use for the PMDG. It does hit FPS harder its like the CRJ.

Best-for-PMDG-Setting.png

Try above and report back. We will take it from there.

NOTE how I up my RS to 140 to push the work load off CPU to GPU. You will have to fine the balance for you PC.

The two main things with your PC is LOD=CPU and Render scale=GPU. object LOD you can set at 200 it makes no diffrence to both.

Why would you Render higher than the Display Resolution? ...  trying to understand...

It takes the work load off you CPU and hits your GPU hard. Stoping you being CPU bound. But this does not apply to lower spec PC's. Then just up your setting and watch Dev mode as above. Having you main thread at 100% is bad.

Also uping your RS gives better AA

If I run at a lower Resolution and a higher Render I don't find it look as good on my 4K display...  If I set resolution to 4K (well 3840x2160) then set the render to about 70 which I think it says (not on my sim currently) gives me the 1440p Render then It looks better on the 4K display (text and displays...) and the FPS goes up...

Les O'Reilly

If you balance your setting it looks like this. Perfectly balanced.

NOTE: The core(thread) that MSFS runs at around 90% and my GPU is running perfectly balanced.

I would hope so. Only use RS and 4k from what I read runs best at 70%-80% RS.
