June 17, 20214 yr Hey Marcus. I can tell you that I tested both ea on and ea off. But I don't really care for EA that much. I focused less on the core usage, and in my case more on the overall performance loss. I usually fly with the shift-z menu on. So it's entirely possible that the reason for the lesser performance on my rig was the menu glitch. But when I rolled back to 5.1 HF, I could notice an obvious improving. Unfortunately, for me I will sit 5.2 out and give it another try next hotfix or patch. 5800X3D, 4090FE, 64GB DDR4 3600C16, Gigabyte X570S MB, EVO 970 M.2's, Alienware 3821DW and 2 22" monitors, Corsair RM1000x PSU, 360MM MSI MEG, MFG Crosswind, T16000M Stick, Boeing TCA Yoke/Throttle, Skalarki MCDU and FCU, Logitech Radio Panel/Switch Panel, Spad.Next
June 17, 20214 yr Author Moderator @mpo910. Hi Marcus. Thanks for your feedback, much appreciated. I'm sure all of us could run default 5.2 with no addons whatsoever and be happy with the performance. But LM know P3D is the base for additional aircraft, scenery and other utilities that make it such an enjoyable sim providing the user has a decent enough PC to cope with the extra load. GIven I spent 3000GBP on a new PC back in Oct 2018 I feel my system still has plenty of power and changing to v5.1 provided a nice boost in performance over v4.5. I fly almost daily and have a good feel for how my system performs. I bought v5.1 so never experienced the problems of 5.0. There were occasional DXGI errors but the main one when switching vehicles was caused by the RTSS info being displayed. Turning that off for that switch prevented that problem. But it's still there in 5.2. Also reported to LM. I had only had v5.2 installed for 24 hours when the performance issues became apparent to me. I had added no extra scenery or aircraft over what I had in v5.1 so the change in performance had to be down to what had changed in 5.2. By limiting my frame rate to 30 when much higher numbers are possible especially at altitude I'm easing the load on the processing by quite a margin. So seeing CPU core 0 hit 100% and fps dropping below 30 was something I hadn't seen with this PC. I have posted on the LM forum about this problem and was asked by Clifton Crane to run some tests. I did that and reported back but haven't heard from him. Some feedback would be appreciated. The programmers must know this code inside out by now so I'm sure they'll find and solve the problem causing these issues. The fact I'm not alone in seeing the same problem proves it's not anything specific to one setup. Enjoy your trip and hope to hear from you soon. Ray (Cheshire, England). The feedback I get from people who test this on a clean install without add-ons, where Apples with apples are compared (Vanilla P3D v5.1 and P3D v5.2) is that their are no differences between them. So those people and I myself assume that this could still be the case when using add-ons. AI for instance. Or other shader tools. I saw more posts about this here and also over at LM. I would like mention that if you are seeing this increased core 0 load, or even increased overal CPU load, this is not done by P3D. GPU load could indeed be decreased. Please consider that TrueSky wasn't optimized enough at prior releases. This has now changed as well the overall VRAM handling and GPU handling as well. I assume this will not change with 5.2 . But something will optimize this CPU handling for 5.2. The html and InfoGen issues are hammering most of your systems and this will change with 5.2. I've noticed a optimization at my end with tests and other beta testers as well LM is still working on the HF. So not done yet. But the good news is, you are in focus. I'm on my way to the Netherlands now....so not at my PC for at least 2 1\2 weeks. I will monitor what will happen here and wish you all the best. I trust LM fully to get this under control again. I would like to thank those who are very helpful here and provide us with feedback. Not every feedback was helpful and constructive, but fortunately lots of you are really great in helping us out THNX Marcus A vanilla P3D puts little load on the cpu and is not representative for how everyone uses P3D. So that does not tell me much. And as no Addons have been changed on the day v5.2 was released it absolutely has to do with the changes LM has made to v5.2. Example : Vanilla v5.1 : a car with 150 horsepower and is able to drive at 180 km/h. We are driving 150 km/u. So no issues. Vanilla v5.2 : a car with 120 horsepower and is able to drive at 160 km/h. We are driving 150 km/u. So no issues. Now we load Addons = 3 extra passengers V5.1 : we loose 20 km/h but we are still able to drive at 150 km/h. v5.2 : we loose 25 km/h and we cannot drive any faster than 125 km/h. - - - And if EA was less optimized before than the result of more optimization now is less load on the GPU and more on the CPU ??? That is the other way round compared to v5.1. Regarding shader tools : there are none for v5.2 at this moment. My comparison between v5.1 and v5.2 was with heavily modified Shaders in v5.1 (extra load) and default Shaders in v5.2. So v5.2 should run better than v5.1…. As LM advertised P3D with FTX Global on the P3D website it is not realistic to compare vanilla versions only… If LM does not improve v5.2 upon v5.1 then I will leave it as it is till v5.3 and in the meantime use MSFS. - - - Have a nice time in Nederland 👍 regards, Gerard 5950x3d 5.4-5.7 GHz - Asus ROG 870 Crosshair Apex - GSkill Neo 2x 24 Gb 6000 mhz / cas 26 - MSI RTX 5090 Gaming Trio OC - 1x SSD M2 6000 2TB - 1x SSD M2 2800/1800 1Tb - Corsair 5400 case - Corsair 360 liquid cooling set - 3x 75’ TCL tv. 13600 6 cores @ 5.1 GHz / 8 cores @ 4.0 GHz (hypterthreading on) - Asus ROG Strix Gaming D - GSkill Trident 4x Gb 3200 MHz cas 15 - Asus TUF RTX 4080 16 Gb - 1x SSD M2 2800/1800 2TB - 2x Sata 600 SSD 500 Mb - Corsair D4000 Airflow case - NXT Krajen Z63 AIO liquide cooling - FOV : 200 degrees My flightsim vids : https://www.youtube.com/user/fswidesim/videos?shelf_id=0&sort=dd&view=0
June 17, 20214 yr Appreciated your feedback and reply again I was only reporting the feedback some guys gave me as I was suffering from HTML and InfoGen issues and could not perform some cpu load testing due these issues which do decrease perfomance AND increase CPU load. Please don't shoot the messenger 😂 We stay in contact. Let's wait LM official feedback based on your requests over at LM support forum. 5.2 should at least perform equal to 5.1 but it would be nice if it would perform even better Marcus Regards, Marcus P.
June 17, 20214 yr out of interest Ray @Ray Proudfoot, did you do a complete uninstall of 5.1 & complete 5.2 install (using provided complete full installer around 20GB size)? my 9700K is definitely not getting hammered on any CPU core - & using plenty of addons & using AI traffic, in fact, the performance is really good with 5.2 (& using 2080 Ti with 64GB RAM)… Edited June 17, 20214 yr by craigeaglefire
June 17, 20214 yr UPDATE:- for Ray @Ray Proudfoot i have finally managed to get 100% continuous usage on CPU Core 0... i was able to do this by connecting Super Traffic Board to the sim - in all scenarios, then rebooted 5.2 without Super Traffic Board & all was back to normal CPU usage - as i have reported before, there must be a reason for this behaviour, so Ray, i was finally able to reproduce your findings...
June 17, 20214 yr Author Moderator @craigeaglefire, I uninstalled the client (no deactivation), content and scenery in that order. I then installed client, content, client (again) and scenery. P3d.cfg was deleted as was the contents of the shaders folder. I have no 3rd party shaders. The official LM advice is simple to uninstall and reinstall the client. Contents and Scenery are optional. I've just conducted a few tests on a flight from London City to Heathrow that overflies central London. EA on is awful for me. Stuttering mess and that's ignoring the visuals which are not to my liking. I turned off all World / Scenery Objects. All sliders to the left. AIG Ai was injected but FSUIPC slowly deleted most until 30fps could be maintained. Only 35 aircraft at Heathrow. 100% core 0 hit multiple times. But with no scenery objects showing what is doing all the work? Next was to keep scenery off and deactivate AIG Ai. Only default Ai running. 50 aircraft in a 80nm radius. Still multiple cpu 0 hits and relatively poor performance given my very modest settings. Final test was zero scenery objects and no Ai at all, not even default. The result was a return to 5.1 performance. 100% core 0 hit only every 20-30 secs. 30fps maintained throughout. Fluidity!! So it looks to me as though Ai is the culprit - even the default stuff. If anyone would like to try two tests - with and without default Ai and disable their 3rd party Ai that would be helpful. Ray (Cheshire, England). June 17, 20214 yr When testing with the AIG aircraft + PSXT + RT , there is almost no framerate loss. So it seems that when P3Dv5.2 has to handle the AI aircraft moving by itself there is an issue.... 5950x3d 5.4-5.7 GHz - Asus ROG 870 Crosshair Apex - GSkill Neo 2x 24 Gb 6000 mhz / cas 26 - MSI RTX 5090 Gaming Trio OC - 1x SSD M2 6000 2TB - 1x SSD M2 2800/1800 1Tb - Corsair 5400 case - Corsair 360 liquid cooling set - 3x 75’ TCL tv. 13600 6 cores @ 5.1 GHz / 8 cores @ 4.0 GHz (hypterthreading on) - Asus ROG Strix Gaming D - GSkill Trident 4x Gb 3200 MHz cas 15 - Asus TUF RTX 4080 16 Gb - 1x SSD M2 2800/1800 2TB - 2x Sata 600 SSD 500 Mb - Corsair D4000 Airflow case - NXT Krajen Z63 AIO liquide cooling - FOV : 200 degrees My flightsim vids : https://www.youtube.com/user/fswidesim/videos?shelf_id=0&sort=dd&view=0
June 17, 20214 yr And also take into account that LM enhanced the possibilities to create much better looking AI lights as they modified the particle effects. Maybe AI models need an update also. Regards, Marcus P.
June 17, 20214 yr Author Moderator @mpo910, Marcus. I've posted my findings on LM forum in this topic. What I think is significant is the problem also occurs with default Ai so LM should be able to replicate the problem. If they fix it for default Ai then AIG stuff should also benefit. @GSalden, so many abbreviations. PSXT and RT??? Ray (Cheshire, England). June 17, 20214 yr @Ray Proudfoot, fyi I do use aig with aicull to limit ai to 75 as i did in 5.1. I did go the aerosft egll. I cant say that my performances are different between 5.1 and 5.2. My CPU0 was always been pegged at 80-90% since ever on prepar3d. For myself, i am not observing any new stottering, long pauses on view change or lower FPS. And now the ai lights are not visible for behind 😉 , so I am a happy camper Vincent Rouleau AMD Ryzen 7950X3d / 64.0GB G.SKILL Neo DDR5 6000 / Gigabyte GeForce® RTX 4080 16Gig / / Samsung C49RG9 49' /ASUS PB287QQ ‑ 27" UHD / AGAMMIX 2TB / Samsung 970 PRO 1TB / PNY SSD 1TB / Windows 11 / Gigabyte B650M Elite Motherboard
June 17, 20214 yr What STB and AI Companion and AIG TC etc will all be doing is calling the SimConnect API for getting the current traffic list, and they'll be doing it a lot. If somehow this API has become much more expensive (due to a bug or something else) then that might explain it. Or else the APIs for setting AI traffic parameters, although if PSXT isn't causing high CPU usage it sounds more likely to be the former. I've got some code somewhere that does this... I could potentially do a test with just the base sim and then debug that and put a timer on it. But not until this evening at the earliest. If Ray has shared the suspicion over AI with LM then hopefully they're looking at it as a possible cause already. Temporary sim: 9700K @ 5GHz, 2TB NVMe SSD, RTX 3080Ti, MSFS + SPAD.NeXT
