FPS increase coming?

There seems to be a great deal of emphasis on professionals implementing best practices, but my community folder has about 3 professional mods and 100 or more non professional ones.

I'll bet you that faced with the prospect of redoing hundreds or thousands of models, plus whatever other new problems arise, means that many if not most of them will be abandoned or deleted.

I get the need for a tweak but maybe developers shouldn't have been permitted to be so 'lazy' in the first place.

Yup you are correct, especially all the little freeware airports which I have a couple hundred

Yes, especially with products sold through the official marketplace.

Anyway, we can discuss this and hypothesise all we like, which is fine of course, and what these forums are for, but I suppose we should give it a chance next week and see for ourselves.  Evolution eh?

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Intel 14900K in a Z790 motherboard with water cooling, RTX 4080, 32 GB 6000 CL30 DDR5 RAM, W11 and MSFS on Samsung 980 Pro NVME SSD's.  Core Isolation Off, Game Mode Off.

Indeed, but the worst cleanup operations I've had to deal with came from updates which should have been nothing but a fun wee addition of a few landmarks.

Maybe it'll turn the tables and this will be a breeze. Hope springs eternal.

I hope so Spud, your airports are top-notch.

I'd imagine most of the freeware airports use default assets (albeit possibly retextured) so they should generally be immune? I wonder how all the Google Earth imports will fare though? 😬

Sorry, but that pop in is appalling in this day and age. 😆  If it is fixable by following the latest SDK, then fine going forward, but we all know how it is; some 3PD will either be slow to adjust old products or not bother at all...

Personally I would rather keep my 30 fps that I have currently than have that... We don't need this 'type of' optimisation for the PC.  Most folks were happy but just looking forward to a nice little performance hike, but it shouldn't be at this expense...

I respectfully disagree the LOD optimisation is unnecessary, by all accounts it's going to add a lot of much needed fluidity (i.e. less stutters), and personally I need the FPS gains and increased tree draw distance too. I don't regard it as an Xboxism; LOD exists in almost all 3D games for optimisation reasons, seeing it through the lens a "pc vs xbox" conflict or console dumbing-down is not helpful nor particularly accurate.

The specific pop-in shown is easily fixed and frankly wouldn't be an issue if the signs had been developed properly to start with; as has been said in this thread most big name developers are not affected for that reason.

I do sympathise with those who have purchased some products that won't get fixed, but I don't see that small minority as a reason to hold the entire simulator back for the rest of us. This is not some major show stopping bug that is difficult to fix and makes popular addons unusable; this update is mainly affecting lazy/unskilled/inexperienced payware airport scenery developers. It's just a shame Asobo didn't do the LOD optimisation a long time ago.

Alright.   All fair comments in my book.  We need to see it in action anyway.   Roll on next Tuesday!

@bobcat999 Now watch the update arrive, break everything with rubbish viewing distance and horrific pop-in, and me eating my above words!

I have literally held off sightseeing flights for weeks so this update can land as I'm hoping it will really improve my experience; I appreciate I am building myself up to be disappointed as no Asobo update has ever lived up to the hype.

I think it's more apprehension in my case 😅

Still...  Through all of it's ups and downs, I would rather have this than a 'dead' sim with no developers listening or trying to improve it.

Aw. Thank you.

I'll see what's what but I may well throw in the towel with some if it's LOD hell. Most models have already been stripped as far as they can. Another 5-10% reduction turns them full cubist.

That means I'd have to make a completely new model for the higher LODs which I'm useless at. And for some projects I'd have to do that 50 or more times in a row. I think life may be too short unless I can super streamline it somehow.

Alternatively I might make my own sim streamed from my 10 year old laptop with the personal guarantee that it will never, ever be updated.

So buy our product.now with more LOD !🙂

On the principle, I tend to agree with you. But then again there are principles and there is the reality of the last 11 months of poor quality control and release of half baked products... Let us see the implementation vis-a -vis for instance the default scenery apart from PG.

As an user, I am really agnostic on this one.

there is something to say for a little stability 😉. Most of the best products of the last iterations (FSX+P3D) came or were initiated during the big freeze.

True. But I have a feeling that Asobo is discovering lots of things they did not take into account when they lauched the sim in August last year. It's probably as frustrating for them as it is for 3PD, and us.
