Yes, it's mandatory.

Guess I'm finding a new pastime then.

Sounds like some devs need to watch this -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ub3NBsESkgA  Simple workaround to make objects appear earlier.

Creating objects with different LODs should accomplish the same thing. Whoever you quoted did not say if they had used LODs in their models. I'd bet that they did not.

That trick doesn't work any more in SU5.

Yes, it's mandatory if you don't want your models to show up only when you're 20 to 50 feet from it vs few miles in SU4. It sucks for developers who have to redo 100's if not 1000's of models.

I don't understand why they're willing to break massive amounts of payware addons from their own Marketplace in one swift update.

I do understand they want the Xbox version out ASAP, but it doesn't mean the PC version has to be degraded and destroyed at the same time. Why not wait another month to fix these issues?

From the link,

Makes sense I guess, if to reduce stutters they nerfed the number of small objects being loaded in, but it'll be disappointing if there's no slider letting us get a balance for ourselves.

Wow. Fail. Love Asobo!

There is still a slight chance it will get fixed before release. I am really hoping.

You're acting like they are purposely trying to break addons. That's the nature of the beast with software development. The addon devs will just have to catch up. As far as I'm concerned, avsim is blowing this way out of proportion before its even out as usual. Similar thing happened right before the aerosoft crj was released when people were complaining about signaling the end of times when they heard about loading being a little longer on first start up, now no one talks about that anymore.

I don't think it's out of proportion to be disappointed that such a big sacrifice which will affect so many addons users have got used to was made to achieve the performance boost. If this is and will be the case when SU5 comes out.

Long term I can totally see how broad adoption of object LODs would be a plus, but to have it brought in all of a sudden is less so.

It is because these issues can be fixed. If an update breaks an addon, its up to the dev to update it. Dont see what all the doom and gloom is about but then again, this is avsim lol

I don’t see any problem with forcing 3rd party devs to make multiple LODs for their objects, if Asobo determines in the long run, that will improve the performance for MSFS.

I do see not giving 3rd party devs enough time to transition to multiple LODs for their objects as a problem though.  This stuff takes time to transition.  This is something Asobo should have planned out better.

Well, no surprise. Those who really thought that such a huge performance increase comes without any cuts/downgrades somewhere else is either utterly naive or has not much experience in the gaming/simming field.

What does this mean in layman's terms please? Jetways popping in when you get close? Or stuff not appearing at all?

Imo they are not cuts or downgrade. Just another way of doing things more efficiently. Say for instance not loading scenery that's not visible. If it can't be seen why should it be loaded?

Yes jetways popping in but those have to be fixed by addon developers. From what I've been reading, the devs has to set the lod so stuff loads in a timely manner. Some sceneries are affected by it but not all
