If we're sure about there will be some comprises in terms of visuals with the upcoming SU5 why Asobo/MS stating no visual downgrades for performance opt. and Xbox release on PC side continuously ? It is not fair. If they have shared what changed it would be easier for community to understand background of the gains and loses. But while waiting performance gains without any major loses it will be quite a hit for us if we see visual degradations. I hope we wouldnt go back in case when we're looking for better lighting and visuals in general.

Oh, I hope they fix this before the release, or extend the beta.  This is what the beta testing is for, and I'm glad you beta testers are finding stuff and giving feedback to Asobo before the official update.

On another note - while some of us are slightly stressed about the upcoming update. Who has got the influence to ask MS/Asobo to publish the Release Notes the day before the update ?.

Some bedtime reading .. 😉

It's all a matter of sensitivity. Most people do not seem to notice or be bothered by things like the LOD regressions, grainy/pixelated clouds, terrain morphing and degraded TAA that came with later updates. I imagine it won't be any different with Sim Update 5, but some will definitely be upset.

So I assume you are a beta tester then and this is not just conjecture?

Assuming you are a beta tester, this does not sound promising. All indications from the few beta testers on here, reading between the lines, seem to be that a visual downgrade of some form is what we will see.

My humble guess is that it will be the clouds that are downgraded and will be back to more pixellated/grainy, more transparent clouds as per how they appear in the Xbox X trailer.

I am not a beta tester so this is just my guess but I have a sneaking suspicion that if anything could be downgraded it's that. And if so, it would be extremely annoying and unacceptable a year after release especially combined with how the PC community provided so much useful development feeback to Asobo.

I hope I am wrong but any type of downgrade would be ridiculous at this stage in the name of Xbox promotion. At least give us a slider/options that lets us increase the graphics settings rather than downgrade them.

I hope so too but well... I wouldn't get my hopes up too high for either 😛

They are not extending the beta. They will release in whatever state it is right now. Some might say it's "good enough" orthers might say it's unacceptable.

Haha, knowing Asobo, it will be fixed in the update after Sim Update 5 😄  But that's cool, because MSFS has overall progressed so much since its release.  Asobo will get it right in the long run 👍

Narrator: "They didn’t." 😄

Joking aside, I will treat this update essentially as a completely new release. Remove all mods and addons, and just see what is there.

I am not crazy about the degradation of trees with the newly introduced levels of LOD (which is different than distance LOD) but I think the trade off to get the extended tree LOD is fair.  I take that. As they said, it's ONE of the trade offs to get performance increase.  That's not the part I am worrying about. There are other LOD's, object LOD made by Asobo and Object LOD made by developers which will be severely effected and I hope they will fix these before release along with few other major issues.

When you say 'degradation' of trees, are you referring to how they look, i.e. that they look visually less good or their density is less?

I bought your trees addon a few days ago. Does this affect your addon?

In reference to your comments on LOD for other objects and importantly for developer addon objects such as airports and landmarks, does this mean they will now pop in only when neaeby as opposed to the current build when they are visible from far away?

If I get 200 fps while flying over NYC...and then get a solid 20fps increase with the new patch - is that much or not so much?

Performance improvement may not be all about fps increase but rather fps consistency (no stutters), that's what performance/optimization is all about and what I would expect from Asobo. I'm pretty sure they have found ways to optimize engine code, there is always room for improvement when coding such a highly complicated software as MS2020 is.

Even Ben from Laminar has posted comments regarding code/memory optimization thus minimizing stutters, yielding better performance, reaching a higher level of fps consistency.

That will definitely not happen, but both this and the last beta had tons of extremely useful feedback from testers that Asobo will utilise in future updates. Even if it does not immediately show, they are listening and working really hard.

Unfortunately I cannot say more, but based on the community's general reaction to previous visual regressions, I think most people will be satisfied with the performance increase the update will bring. I would recommend to enjoy the current, relatively stable build and not to worry about the next one.

I completely agree about having more adjustability in the graphics settings though, and I sincerely hope people will request it.

Looks like beyond the visual downgrades we're gonna have some stability issues too :[ Last couple of waiting days will be painfull I guess.

If the upcoming verison is not in a good state should beta testers suggest to delay and have time to fix the issues ? Why do they push a half stable version intentionally ?

Kind regards.
