The default YBBN is not a hand made Asobo airport and is nothing at all like the real Brisbane airport.

But the default airport performs well, and as I say I wouldn't know the difference anyway.

Exactly.

So for ME who has flown out of the real YBBN multiple times the Orbx product is definitely worth it.

However if you live for  example in say the US mid west, have never been to Australia, never will and are only buying it for eye candy and screen shots it is definitely not worth it.

TLDR - if looking like the real YBBN matters to you, while it is not their best effort it is still worth buying.  HOWEVER if you are just after eye candy - avoid it.

I really hope they are able to go through and update their sceneries at some point.

They always did, which is why it used to be a no brainer to buy anything with Orbx on the tin because you knew if things were not right, it would for sure get fixed. That was the Orbx guarantee - these guys took pride in what they came out with, it had to be the best or nothing.

Now, not so sure anymore to be honest. Don't feel the love anymore, it's so much more 'commercialised' now, the focus being only on the ££s and less so with being a part of the community if you know what I mean. Earlier the marketing spiel would match the product but now it is just that - marketing spiel.

Exactly.  And for many many people who will use this FS, most will not know one airport from another, or more specifically the default airports will easily be 'good enough' which is why I say it is critical for devs who want to do anything meaningful to make not only high fidelity reproductions but also ones that perform exceedingly well.  I bought FlightBeam's KPDX, and promptly uninstalled it because the performance hit simply is not worth the better facimile.  The future does not look great, to me, for airport developers in general.  I have purchased a few that I'm not that familiar with, but to be honest most of it was legacy behavior from doing this in FSX/P3D for the eye candy value and the delta versus default there was ginormous, that and I wanted to patronize the developer to help keep them afloat.  FSDreamTeam's CYVR & KORD I bought for this reason and they did work to retain ILS freq in the G3000's MFD.  And CYOW I bought from Roman Design, mainly once again to support him.   It's really nice work, but really hard on performance.   I bought Orbx's KSBA because I know the airport then was miffed when I discovered they left out the ILS freq in the MFD for autolookup and tuning.  Now KBJC, my close to home airport near Denver Colorado that I am quite familiar with, is absolutely 'good enough', and it's a default, non-handmade airport.

It's not a question of just going after eye candy. I want to buy airports/sceneries of places I've never been to, to see the best possible rendition of what they look like irl, (which Orbx in the past would always strive hard to achieve).

If a product now is a shoddy representation of what the place looks like irl, then that's not a nice thing.

It sounds like to me that most of us would have been willing to pay more for something up to FS standards.  I'm sure there's some that are just OK with something a notch or 2 above the default in order to get something a little better in to the new sim, but if you're going to do payware, might as well do it up better the first time.

Yep ... that is precisely it.

Assuming you ae actually familiar with Brisbane and not just collecting airports for the sake of it - you can refuse to buy it to "teach Orbx a lesson about the sort of standards we simmers demand" and just stick with the default that looks fine but is nothing like the real airport. Or you can get something that actually looks like the real airport, for what, with the 50% discount, is actually an acceptable price. Though admittedly yes, the non-discount price is a touch too too high for what you get.

Sure if someone else brings out a better version with more eye candy and nicer textures, or Asobo for that matter do a handcrafted one, this addon will be redundant but in the meantime it actually makes flying over Brisbane look like Brisbane.

For me the real issue is the price point as YBBN is not dreadful with glaring errors, it is just a bit lacklustre visually, and the 50% discount price should really be the normal retail price.  The  undiscounted version is priced to high for what you get.

The feedback is not only uncomplimentary for the most part, but Orbx have now locked a thread containing valid comments on their YBBN airport so no further comment can be added.  Can I suggest that you go to this thread in their forum and re-post any comment you have on YBBN, or add yours if you have not yet expressed your views.  Orbx will only listen if they receive a deluge of comment.  Commercial censorship of very valid commentary has no place in the flightsim world.

It seems that some pressure of the community was helpful, Ed C. unlocked the above mentioned thread. But again no comment. I would at least expect a statement/excuse. I had my problems to agree with John V's opinions but they were clear and straight forward. That would not have happened under his regime.

Unfortunately the default airport is missing the new runway and taxiways. Had it not been for that I probably wouldn't have bought it. I was lucky enough to have the previous version so I didn't put much thought into pulling the trigger but I was rather shocked after loading in - had I paid full price I probably wouldn't be very happy at all.
