ORBX Brisbane now available for MSFS2020

Is this of old Orbx quality, or current Orbx quality? Because it's quite clear this isn't the same company John left so I'm always skeptical with their current products

It is vastly better than default but not really up to the standard of Sydney and Adelaide, though those may be different developers.

I use to buy everything these guys made. I purchaed SJC a few months ago and it really is a medium level quality airport which suprised me coming from ORBX.

People are making freeware airport scenery that is way ahead of ORBX and they need to watch out real carefully or they wont have much of a business in the years ahead.

And another dev locking threads that are not in their favour. What a bummer...

Locking a critical threat w/o any comment ...This alone is reason enough not to buy it in near future. Those times where I've purchased ORBX titles w/o hesitation are over.

Hey David, when you install it could you please check to see if they are now including ILS Freq in the G3000's MFD > Waypoint Info > Airport Info (enter YBBN) > Freqs Tab.   It should look like this, where the ILS freq can be selected then auto-tuned.  They left this functionality of the two airports I bought from them early on, and have worked with them to resolve this, so just checking if they're still releasing new content w/o addressing this.

Thanks in advance

Looks like the feedback is far from good. Take a look at this already locked topic on the Orbx forums...

https://orbxsystems.com/forum/topic/208928-ybbn-reworked/

The feedback is not only uncomplimentary for the most part, but Orbx have now locked a thread containing valid comments on their YBBN airport so no further comment can be added.  Can I suggest that you go to this thread in their forum and re-post any comment you have on YBBN, or add yours if you have not yet expressed your views.  Orbx will only listen if they receive a deluge of comment.  Commercial censorship of very valid commentary has no place in the flightsim world.

It's really a shame what a shell of itself Orbx is

John had his critics because he didn't hold back or put on some cute friendly persona. He told it like it was, and was truly a captain of his ship. He didn't ask for quality, he didn't ask for perfection. He demanded it and when word not allowed slips through the cracks he owned up to it like a man.

Now they're trying desperately to be the Steam of flight simming and they are WAY TOO LATE for that and if John was still there, all those outside developers hosting products on HIS servers, HIS platform, HIS baby.. Would never happen. It shows weakness that they don't have enough confidence in their own products to support the company that they need outside 3rd parties to prop it up

About an hour ago, they (Ed ) unlocked the thread. They need to go away and have a good think about what they just released, and think about the future.

To be honest I am not sure why ANY developer posts on the main forum.  You could bring out an immaculate almost study level aircraft for $10 and still get accused of being a scam and rip off because several rivets were out of place.  Even stuff like the JF Arrows gets hammered as a rip off by some posters on occasions.

In the case of YBBN, with the discounts, it may still be worth it as is better than default and far better than the freeware photogrammetry one that totally kills your FPS.

It is however not up to the standard of YSSY and probably should be priced cheaper as a result.  ( Though Orbx is tending to become like one of those fashion or jewellery discount franchises where you never buy anything at full price because they are sure to have another "storewide special" soon. )

Is YBBN worth it?  For me personally yes, even with flaws, as I do fly SE QLD an awful lot and it is better than anything else around so far. However if your not a regular in the area, maybe not so much.

With the quality of default airports and their textures all devs who want to play need to have exquisitely done work that performs very very well, else why bother, especially if you are not intimately familiar w/ the specific details of the airport in question.  I mean I couldn't tell 99.9 percent of all airports from their real world counterparts anyway, hence the desire to buy 3rd party airports is severely reduced from P3D days where default airports were just awful.

Truth be told, I wouldn't be embarrassed at all to put a MSFS default airport on stream.  100 foot tall hangars and all, it's still better than what we had.

The default YBBN is not a hand made Asobo airport and is nothing at all like the real Brisbane airport.

If Australia ever gets a world update that may change, but for now, whilst the Orbx product is not fantastic and may well be over-priced as a result -  it is definitely far better than the default one.
