Sidestick options

Featured Replies

I'm posting it in this thread because I solely use the FBW A32NX mod in MSFS.

I currently use a Saitek Yoke control with throttle quadrant as it's all I have.

Looking for options in a joystick / sidestick. I've heard the Thrustmaster Airbus version is overpriced for what you get but at least it comes with throttle quadrant.

Are there any other options out there?

The Logitech X56 is more expensive than Airbus. Is it any better? not sure if it'll have engine starts, the ability to add addons like airbus and is there reversers etc

The 16000M is priced very well but what do people do with thrust? do they use the tiny slider on the base of the stick?

I use a VKBsim Gladiator NXT and it’s been a awesome  joystick. Build quality is beyond its price range.

I've previously used the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro. It's good quality entry level stick, and I've used it since around 2007 or so.

I swapped it out just a few months ago with the Thrustmaster 16000M. It's basically the same stick as the Thrustmaster Airbus one, it even has the same base design. And like the Airbus version, there's an ambidextrous kit in the box so you can rebuild it for left hand use. I'm very happy with mine. I also use the Saitek throttles, and I've set it up so that my 16000M is on my left and the throttles on my right. I thought flying with the left hand would be difficult, but it's not. You get used to it right away. I have removed the "keybind" or function of the slide throttle on the stick, because sometimes I would touch it without intension.

I use a Honeycomb Bravo Throttle Quadrant for thrust levers.

I don't mess with the little slider on the base of the stick.   That would be for if you didn't have any other option I guess.

I have the Airbus Edition Sidestick. I don’t feel that it is overpriced. In fact I feel the opposite based on what else is out there. There will always be a small premium for the branding rights.

- works well out the box and is recognised by the sim immediately.

- extremely accurate, using modern joystick sensor technology.

- comes with option to buy standalone or as a kit with the throttles.

- and as you state you fly almost exclusively in A320, do not write it off.

- it is fairly light and to some people, this implies lower quality which would not be an accurate measure of build quality.

Only negative is the throttle slider - short range and a very dull reverse range detent. I use a separate CH Products throttle quad though, so for me, this is a non-issue.

I don't know where you hear that, but it certanly is exactly the right quality for its price range.

I love my 1600M.  I just use a separate throttle.  Currently am using the Logitech Throttle Quadrant.  I prefer side stick for a bunch of reasons, mostly because it quickly gets out of the way.

I still like to fly using my right hand which is pretty much backwards, but you can turn the 1600M around and use it with the other hand as well.

(after years and years of combat simming, I couldn't use the stick on the left).
