Now that MSFS is here, P3d is suddenly trash? It really doesn’t make sense to me. It’s as if some folks are trying to make those of us who still enjoy P3d appear foolish. I honestly don’t understand it, but I certainly hope we can move past this type of behavior. The thing is, it's the people who do that that actually make themselves look foolish. They just don't have the maturity to see it. Full disclosure: I run P3D, XP11 and MSFS.

It's really not about a particular forum, it's the uncertainty of any particular thread descending into chaos. If that is the editorial line then I'll try using report or else just come here less. I agree that self discipline on behalf of avsim members would make moderation unnecessary, but sadly evidence to date shows this appears to be an unachievable goal for some people. July 21, 20214 yr There's always a market for any flight sim that's out there, even FS2004 (albeit a small market, but *still* a market). In fact, I'd like to think that some kid in a poorer country has access to those older flight sims that run well on older machines if only to escape for a little while to the wonderful world of flying. Even better, that they use it as a springboard for a career in aviation. Who knows, maybe there are people using FS98 still. In fact, I still have my CFS3 stashed away, but thinking about bringing it out since I have the Firepower! add-on from A2A and I've gotten a *much* better understanding of flying. "To each their own," I always say. If you enjoy P3D, X-Plane or any other sim, that's the bottom line...who cares what others say? Opinions are like...uh, never mind! Everyone's got one, but it's your own opinion that matters for you. I've only been on AVSIM a short time, but I've found it to be a great resource for picking brains on all things aviation, even obscure topics like barometric vs temperature-compensated minimums. The things I've learned here on AVSIM have enhanced my flying experience. The more I learn, the more I enjoy flying the sim (MSFS2020, btw, for those who are curious). I've yet to run into trolls on here, but if I do, I treat them the same way I do everywhere else online...don't feed 'em and ignore 'em.

Actually, there are a lot of people who use FS9, FS2002, and I still see FS98 (user made) addons posted on occasion. I used the same PC for 7 years and FS9 was what kept me in this hobby until I was finally able to upgrade recently. You are spot on about the value of older sims to people who can't 'keep up with the jonses' so to speak. I don't want anyone left out of our great hobby. I cant put a number to "a lot of people" though. I've often wondered about that. How many of us are there and what/how do we use our favorite sims. In any gaming community, there is always a percentage that uses forums, but I don't feel like that is a good representation of the communities as a whole. For years I have posted little, flown a lot. I may follow procedures to a T, or hand fly a 737 following the GPS. Depends on my mood. Maybe we focus too much on what 'category' of simmer we should be in.

July 21, 20214 yr Folks, we do not entertain debate of our moderation on the forums, and I've removed some posts here that were heading into that territory. Over the years I've found that virtually everyone has a different opinion of how we should accomplish the dreary task of moderation. Suffice it to say that for every person that wishes we would make something or someone go away, there's someone else upset that we're too heavy-handed.
