I'm getting so tired with endless threads getting derailed with pointless debates and arguments about MSFS and why it's so much better than sliced bread, to the point of feeling as if, if someone thrust religion the same way down my throat I'd want to cause then some serious discomfort. (Edit- informed technical discussions are interesting, it's just endless monologue about relative merits consisting of opinion only which is frankly boring now.)

Now, threads for which that is on topic, fine, I'll stay away from them, no harm done.

I'd very much encourage mods to more actively moderate inappropriate off topic trolling and opinion forcing, particularly in the P3D forums please, by deleting such off topic posts, until people learn to moderate their own behaviour.

If not, I will probably come to Avsim less and less, because it's not a pleasurable experience sometimes.

This is not an anti MSFS thread, it has its merits, and I will use it in parallel to other sims, as I see fit. I just would like people to enjoy what they enjoy and quit preaching inappropriately to others.  If the same behaviour happened in the school playground, some people's behaviour would be characterised as bullying. We are better than that aren't we?

I'd welcome other opinions on the moderation aspect please....

Now you know how FS9 hold outs felt when FSX was released...  Nothing has changed.  For years anyone who hadn't migrated was reminded that the only reason to use FS9 was your HW couldn't run FSX.  The reality was a lot of people had FS9 add-ons that weren't migrated yet but for years if you were using FS9 it was because you couldn't afford new HW according to the Avsim forums.

Like I said, no different now.

The flip side is all the P3D enthusiasts who swore that MSFS was an arcade game, would never have high fidelity add-ons, that for "training procedures" you needed P3D etc etc etc.

So yeah, nothing has changed and it goes both ways as long as it is not a personal attack or something completely egregious it's always been the case when a new sim is released.

If you don't like a post report it or ignore it pretty simple.  We are "better" than needing "more" moderation and you mention nothing about the inverse scenarios, just people talking about MSFS in P3D not people speaking about X-Plane in MSFS or P3D in MSFS so it "appears" you just want moderation to keep MSFS topics out of your P3D forum and your entire post is about what you would like not the betterment of the forums.

I mean really your post is please don't let people post about MSFS in P3D forums because it bothers me otherwise I will come here less or leave.  Sorry but that's how it reads.

I referenced these specific circumstances because they pertain to my personal situation. Ofc it extends in the same way to all varieties of the same expression Vis a vis any 2 or more Sims of your selection 🙂

basically everyone is entitled to their own opinion but don't present it as gospel fact with the expectation that everyone else has to agree or their opinion is invalid.  Thats just not cricket.

I wrote a longer reply but deleted it and decided to not to, thanks for the advice 👍

Yes, I can only agree. It´s like you oversee conversation about P3D and someone blasts into door and yells: MSFS, MSFS... And than the thread derails. Lastly about rain in P3D - someone asked why do you even bother with rain in P3D. Go to MSFS. I was like why do you even bother writing such recommendation in P3D forum about rain. It does not make any sense at all.... And there might be more examples.

It came to point that I started to suspect there are paid trolls to yell MSFS in P3D Forums.

Nevermind, have a nice day.

Absolutely!!!  To each their own, I actually went straight from FS9 to P3D and skipped FSX I was so happy with my FS9 install and the endless (you are only using FS9 because you can't afford new HW) comments that first year or two of FSX while there was still some debate were painful.  Eventually FSX matured, P3D came along and FS9 was indeed obsolete to me but I did what I wanted regardless of the comments here.  Funny thing is like you throughout that period my Avsim visits/participation dropped to almost nil.  It just wasn't enjoyable to me anymore so I do empathize.

Simply avoid those topics when they degenerate.  There is great value here!  Just learn to shrug!

It certainly goes both ways and it’s annoying both ways - I’ve moved from P3D to MSFS but I get equally annoyed watching threads derail in either direction.

Though I don’t normally agree with heavy handed moderation (and I appreciate the job our volunteer mods do here to try and keep the peace) I do agree that it would be good to see that stuff get squashed before it spirals out of control, and repeat trolling offenders asked to take a break from the forums if needed.

A lot of good, interesting threads unfortunately end up being stifled by repetitive nonsense arguments over whose sim is better.

I agree.  That is the most frequent catalyst to topics spinning out of control. As a community and as individuals we should all understand that we do not all share the same reasons and methods that are embodied in our flying. So there is no one sim fits all, all of the time.  All-inclusive and superlative statements each breed arguments.

Perhaps the forum administrators could create a single new forum covering all simulators titled "Brags, Raves, Rants, and Trolls" where members can start related topics appropriately "tagged".  Then they might then be easy to identify in the list of Recent Topics for members to either join or avoid.

In these instances, I find one is one's own best editor/moderator, in simply not bothering to respond to, or even read such posts about 'my sim is better than yours', as frankly such posts are very boring and even more childish most of the time, and even if they were not, they would still pretty much achieve nothing. Fortunately, it's pretty easy to skip the dull stuff and just check out the interesting and informed stuff on Avsim. And equally fortuitously, there are still many very knowledgeable people on the forums whose contributions in other matters are worth reading. It doesn't take long to determine who is worth ignoring.

I follow a lot of topics on MSFS, P3D, and XP (and I own all of them and have them installed). It's indeed in both directions. Yes, there are MSFS users invading P3D threads, but the same applies to the opposite. Plus there are XP-users (sometimes heavily) derailing MSFS threads. And so on. Personally, I would prefer (i) a more stringent moderation of such cases (ii) topics should be observed and moderated by mods with a positive relation to the respective simulator.

Kind regards, Michael

That being said, I’d love to know where we  can find a mod with a positive relationship to MSFS. Maybe I’m forgetting someone!

I know of no Mod that jumps into a thread or topic bashing or overly praising any particular Sim.  Right now, I am Simless on my computer.  We try to keep the peace on every forum and eliminate any infighting.

This is what I find particularly disturbing. Up until MSFS came along, most of us loved P3d, or perhaps another sim platform. Now that MSFS is here, P3d is suddenly trash? It really doesn’t make sense to me. It’s as if some folks are trying to make those of us who still enjoy P3d appear foolish. I honestly don’t understand it, but I certainly hope we can move past this type of behavior.
