August 2, 20214 yr So the smallest generic airliner model has a wingspan of 154 feet. For comparison, the USA World Update Atlanta only has 2 gates big enough for that, the rest are large GA parking and cargo parking. This this addon if it had released, you'd only ever see 2 planes at proper gates at KATL, and the rest would be at cargo/GA Unless they had a way to override the wingspan. Maybe they planned on having their own parking files idk. Edited August 2, 20214 yr by Tuskin38
August 2, 20214 yr I am curious whether the dev working on this cleared with Microsoft that it was ok to proceed using their models for a commercial product. From the previous comments by Jorge, it seemed like he was genuinely concerned using real airline paints on their models without direct permission. It would not be shocking to find out that they locked the directories when they found out this project is so close to completion. Jacek G. They're still open like they were before. Edited August 2, 20214 yr by Tuskin38

August 2, 20214 yr Sounds to me like Aerosoft stepped in to back what they thought was an existing product with a potentially big market, then realised it wasn't as advanced as they thought and the dev was already working at the limits of his ability before SU5 hit. I don't buy the file encryption excuse, I reckon whatever method they were planning to use for traffic injection started causing regular CTDs after the update. Better for both to cut their losses at that point. i7-10700K; RTX 2070 Super; 16GB; P3Dv4.5HF3 & MSFS2020.
August 2, 20214 yr We don't need generic models. A hyperrealistic airport with fake traffic is useless. We need FREEDOM when choosing how to inject air traffic into our simulators. When we bought them, we were free to do so, and now that they no longer receive money from us, they have closed it down and turned it into a useless product. This is like communism, little by little they make the user less free. Asobo / microsoft, have to support their customers and ensure the enjoyment of their purchases. The current MSFS traffic does not exist. It's not real. We do not have FREEDOM. He who does not realize that loses.
August 2, 20214 yr This is the unfortunate side of the development world. I remember we had this contract with this developer who created a program that calculates takeoff and landing data in regards to airport conditions and climb gradients. Awesome tool as it would spit out max weights and flap settings based on conditions. We transitioned from having a laptop for each jet to buying iPADs(EFB) for all of our crew members. I had been working hard to make life easier for us on the road. Unfortunately, his tool was based on windows and he was in the works of coding it for an Apple App. He had been working on that thing for ever. One day I pressed him because I was about to look for another company that could provide us with an App. He told me that Apple had rejected his App because it needed to be converted to 64 Bit to meet Apple's switch from 32 Bit to 64 Bit. He informed that he would had to purchase new software and re code the program to 64 Bit. Needless to say, he couldn't meet our time line and I decided to go with another company that already had a performance app. I felt bad for him since we had used his program for a long time, but you have to be willing to adjust to those changes when they happen. I find it funny that we mention "communism" when this is a control (authoritarian, if you will) situation. Our demand for freedom is a long lost fight not just in simulators but in most of our lives (digital or otherwise). Now, in MSFS context: the simulator does part of its magic server-side, there is no way you could have thought back then that you had any choice in this matter. Weather? It's server side. Scenery? Server-side. Traffic? Server-side. Updates? You will run whatever they push server-side. This is also happening in many other frontiers... not just flight simulation. And there is no turning back. Alea iacta est... sorry. Edited August 2, 20214 yr by evaamo Enrique Vaamonde

Airports, buildings, tree and road data are still locally stored on your drive. If you go into data options and turn online functionality to off, its's basically just a better looking default FSX with all the auto gen textures. The rest of what you said is true though. Except there are third party weather providers. Edited August 2, 20214 yr by Tuskin38
