Have you seen a 70% increase? I haven't...

But if PC users can profit from it too, I don't mind. I won't argue that SU5 is perfect - far from it. But I'm sure the issues will be fixed.

It was done to improve the sim.
Whether on XBox or PC.

At the moment we have zero hard evidence that there was a deliberate decision to downgrade the PC visuals to improve performance (though there absolutely was a design decision to increase the agressiveness of object culling in memory which causes issues when looking around).

What we DO have evidence of is that this was a rushed & badly buggy release, so to me the idea that visual downgrade is the result of bugs is entirely plausible.

And I would like Asobo to own their messes when the create one this big.

And that is your right. And I am sure Asobo sees this the same way. And on top of they may also interpret that Matchstick and others understand this as purely commercial obligations, why should they ever talk to you again…

It's been around since Sept 2020. https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/blog-september-24th-2020-development-update/283871

The bugs above it have been solved or addressed by hiring the Working Title team (G1000/G3000 improvements)

It's hard to argue performance wasn't an important issue.

I agree with you that things have been broken in the course of SU5, but contrary to you, I'm convinced they'll be fixed again, and they weren't part of a malicious secret plan between Jörg and Seb to degrade the visuals for the PC.

Well I didn't go back a year ago, I looked at the list , which I thought was more relevant that was posted a few days ago.....?????

Ummm... what more evidence do you require other than to look at your own screen?

Certainly not suggesting that this is the case here, but it is statements like this that make dev teams on games in this kind of position wonder if the backlash in these cases is truly about degraded visuals or actually about maintaining PC elitism, when the titles end up looking similar graphically.

The reality is that the Series X is actually quite a powerful piece of hardware with a pretty stout GPU (just under a 2080ti) and architectural advantages that are not available on the PC, such as storage DMA and shared VRAM/system RAM. I would venture to say that even in this crowd, most users have PCs that are not hitting those specs, necessarily.

Based on some comments by the “dumbed down to accommodate XBox” posters, one would think that the XB is a complete potato that runs on an 80386 CPU driving a 4-color CGA display, and connecting to the internet via a 14.4KB dial-up modem!

In my case, my MSFS system runs on a 5–year-old 4790K CPU, O/C at 4.2GHz, with an GTX1080Ti GPU. Other than my system RAM (32 MB) and VRAM (11GB), my system technical specs are less than the XBox-X.

I definitely noticed (and greatly appreciate) a major increase in performance and graphics with SU5. I can now run my LOD sliders at 200, and several graphics settings at Ultra that were formally limited to High, while maintaining a smooth (locked) 30FPS. Overall graphics quality is greatly improved. I see very little pop-in of objects, but I do not use VR or TrackIR, and realize the effect may be worse for users of those systems.

I do agree that scenery lighting looks more “washed out” than before, and I definitely noticed that ground textures at high altitude look worse than SU4, but am glad to see that both are being addressed in the upcoming hotfix.

Because they would like my comtinued commercial support, directly by buying their future products (and purchasing through their store) and indirectly by supporting 3rd party devs who make the sim better and so encourage more sales with their products.
Just the same as with every other buyer of MSFS.

So that's evidence that the visuals have been downgraded, but where's the evidence that it's the result of a deliberate decision not bugs ?

I'm not suggesting that things haven't been downgraded (though the severity of the effects may not be same for everyone), my questions it whether it's happened by accident or design. Considering the state of this release in general "accident" is entirely believable for me.,

Nope, it just illustrates that it's one of the oldest highly voted bugs that hadn't been addressed yet. So what's your point? They shouldn't care about performance because there are newer bugs? They should stop working on performance improvements because there are newer bugs? Doesn't make sense to me.

Of course they should work on the regressions to the visuals and give you the means to tune it to your liking, and that includes SU4 visual quality or beyond. What makes you think they don't?

Come on now, Bob.  You asked to be shown where on the list performance was, and it was shown.  No one was saying that it's the #1 priority, they were simply demonstrating, as asked, that "I don't recall anyone asking for big performance improvements" shows a memory that needs updating.

Your right, I asked a question because I missed seeing it when I looked at the list the first time,  and it was answered. Am I not allowed to ask a question?  Hey I don't work for the company, you do, so I am not sure how Asobo determines the priority of what they work on first.

That would mean asking for a refund for all the very many add ons I have purchased outside of the store. Just Flight. PMDG. Contrail. Macco sim, NextGen sim, OrbX, UK2000,, I could go on so please do not be so ridiculous.

I would hope that folks know that I wouldn't just be going around and lying to the community.

The focus was delivering a smooth sim, honestly. That required some engineering and engine changes, as these things always do. The intention was to give more headroom for more, added detail. Obviously, not everyone is happy, and more sliders are coming. If you want to dial offscreen terrain caching up, soon you'll be able to. If the intention was truly to soak up that XBox cash and ride off into the sunset, someone definitely forgot to tell the team to do the whole ride off into the sunset part. 🙂

...and you wouldn't be part of the team in the first place 😉 because who needs improved glass cockpits when Xbox gamers are the target audience 😅

Working Title gave us a great free product (again -- free), so they have no need to worry about what we think. Yah yah, I've thrown a couple jabs here and there when trying to figure stuff out (so did everyone). That said, it's obvious they are more like US than not, but there is a separation in my mind between WT and the other code.

There are issues, but there are more energetic and probably more talented people that already seem to find MOST issues before I do. I aint no spring chicken, so even if I made my own list, not sure it would be any more prioritized than anyone elses. So I guess in that sense, it's easy to feel trapped by the pet bugs so to speak.
