Ok, just to make this perfectly clear: Running the sim gives me a message about a mandatory update in the store. Then the storepage opens. I go to my library and click on MSFS. I only get a blue play button, where as normally I would get an update button instead. If I try to restart the sim (which Ive done many times) I get the same message about a mandatory update. The sim is 100% unusable right now.

Also, there is an update section in the store, but that does not contain MSFS. MSFS only shows up under recent activity, and still only has a blue play button at that page, and the next page if I click that element in the activity list.

Hi. Launch Windows Store.  Then click on the 3 dots at the top right.  After you click on the 3 dots, select "Downloads and Updates."

Which version shows for MSFS for you? If it shows 1.18.15.0, Windows Store has already updated it for you automatically.

Also, you can just launch MSFS and check the version by right clicking your profile.

I think you're making it more complicated than it needs to be.  Check the version of MSFS you have now. Check it in Windows Store or check it in the actual game.

I think you dont understand. I am in an endless loop where the sim will direct me to the store for an update, but the store does not offer one.

No update here, I tried many times in Microsoft Store and it still says 1.18.14.0. If I launch FS it appears a message regarding the update and I can't play.

Good next step, the store probably has its own web-cache-refresh issue sometimes.

How do I do that again? Thanks.

Edit: so in the store, when clicking my account name, I could log off, which I did. I logged back in, and the store still doesnt offer me an update.

For everyone that is panicking about not being able to download the update from Windows Store (if you purchased MSFS from Windows Store and not Steam):

In Windows Store, check the version of MSFS.  If the version of MSFS says 1.18.15.0, then Windows Store already updated it for you!  If it says 1.18.15.0 in Windows Store, then launch MSFS and when you reach the MSFS menu, you can right click on your profile on the top right and check the version of MSFS you are running.  If it says 1.18.15.0 inside MSFS when you right click your profile, then you are good to go.

I don't know why, but for me, normally I have to manually update MSFS when I go to Windows Store.  For some reason, Windows Store decided to automatically update for me when I opened Windows Store today.  Anyways, all that matters is that it says 1.18.15.0 inside the game on the menu screen.

Yes, mine updated in the background from the store last night, while I was reading this very thread!   I checked in the windows store by clicking on the download icon top right.  It said MSFS, just updated.

I started the sim, straight in, new version.  It was easy to see in seconds in a flight anyway, I disabled any Nvidia experience filters I had set, and I saw the environmental lighting was back to it's previous glory!
I'm not going to lie, I was actually a bit emotional when I saw it had been restored.  I wasn't sure we would ever get it back.  I am certainly thankful for it as the lighting is one of the things that makes MSFS special for me.

PS.  Some people, the minority I believe, liked the new lighting, maybe some with HDR monitors etc.
Well I feel sorry for them having to go back now, but Nvidia experience filters can always be used to get somewhere close.
As well as the usual contrast, brightness and gamma, it has settings such as 'exposure' and 'shadow' etc. that will get you somewhere near.

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Intel 14900K in a Z790 motherboard with water cooling, RTX 4080, 32 GB 6000 CL30 DDR5 RAM, W11 and MSFS on Samsung 980 Pro NVME SSD's.  Core Isolation Off, Game Mode Off.

I think you can update from either place (Xbox store or MS store), remember there are 2 separate stores here. If Xbox store, you click your profile icon on the top right, if MS store, not sure there is a way to login or refresh the cache (other than reboot), unless you uninstalled/reinstalled something affecting it.

You have to install it, technically it is called "The Xbox App", but it has a store too.

And why would I want to install it? Ive updated MSFS in the MS Store since august 2020. I dont own an Xbox.
