Hotfix 1.18.15.0 is now live!

Off to empty my community folder, reset my monitor, default my usercfg and reboot in a minute.  Will report back on how things look and feel when I've done a couple of flights.

Having read this thread, it does all sound very encouraging for a change though.

Update.  Flown a couple of flights this morning following the latest hotfix and am pleased to report that everything seems to be running well. Great framerates, smoothness and visuals.  I'm very happy with what we now have and will put the trauma of the last week behind me and enjoying flight simulation again.  Yet to test performance in very dense scenery areas, but not expecting any issues from what I've seen so far.

Some people in the official MSFS forums were saying they needed to download some X-Box app to get the update to work.  I did not need to download any X-Box app yesterday to get the update to work (but it's possible I did download something like that last year in August when I purchased the game - that was a year ago so I don't remember).

Go to the official thread for this hotfix at the official MSFS forums: https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/official-discussion-hotfix-1-18-15-0/437398.  Search for x-box in all the text.  This may be related to your issue or not, I'm not sure.  I can only say that personally, I didn't have to install any such X-Box app yesterday to get the update to work (but that doesn't mean I didn't install such an app last year when I purchased the game).

Your choice, alternative link to the update as a last resort troubleshooting step?

Not saying it will work, just a generic idea I threw out there.

For multiplayer settings you do 😉 We had during alpha sometimes the same issue and a log of and login solves the issues...

Further to my quote, I just checked the services installed in Windows 10 and I saw 4 services related to X-Box (mind you, I don't own an X-Box at all):

Xbox Accessory Management Service
Xbox Live Auth Manager
Xbox Live Game Save
Xbox Live Networking Service

Either these services came with Windows 10, or Windows Store or MSFS installed these services on my computer last year when I purchased and installed MSFS.  Since MSFS supports X-Box now, it's possible that the update is now tied to the X-Box app people are talking about.  I'm not sure about this, but you can ask support in the official MSFS forums about whether the X-Box app is needed.  I vaguely recall I had to do something X-Box related last year when I installed MSFS the first time but I can't recall exactly what I did.

In any case, the update worked smoothly for me.

I was in the exact same loop Andreas. I I stalled the Xbox app and then I finally  got the  update option. 
 

it is just crazy how weird this process is. I have never seen anything like it.

So what is this app called? when I search the ms store, I cant find an app called that.  The closest I get is "xbox tilbehør" which translates into "xbox accessories", and a nondescript app just called "xbox".

It's a bug in the MS store cache (not related to any tie-in MS did), it has happened to me before, BUT...

You can still update from the MS store when it works right, key word "when".

I just used the MS store today, even though I have both methods available.

Thanks. Ok, i downloaded it, but now what? I only get the play button here as well. It doesnt offer any updates, at least not that I can see?

Sounds like they haven't deployed the update on the server you are assigned to, I suppose.

Ok, so going back to the store, AFTER installing the xbox app, and clicking "get updates", it finally updated my flightsim............... Talk about having to jump through hoops!
