Any word on a World Update for Asia?

Recommended Posts

This area needs some serious attention and I really hope Asobo will work their magic to bring it to a better quality standard. Especially the southeastern portion, ie: Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Taiwan, Philippines, Hong Kong, etc.

Hardly any developers are even making airports for this area. We need RKSI, RJPC, VVTS, VVDN, WKKK, VTBS, VTSP, VVNB, RCTP just to name a few. And most of those are popular and large international airports too. Pac Sim, use to make a lot of nice airports for this region in P3D/FSX. If any developers are seeing this, please take note. There's a ton of potential in this region that hasn't been touched yet.

Not so far, however Jorg (MS) has stated that they intend to circle the globe twice improving the scenery which would cover various Asian countries. When this will happen, whether there will be mesh updates and if the improvements will be as good as World Updates previously released is unknown.

Give people power to really test their personality.

Of the 7 traditional Continents so far:

Europe - 4 updates (WU3 WU4 WU 5 WU6)
Africa - NO UPDATES
North America - 1 update (WU2)
South America - NO UPDATES
Asia - 1 update (WU1)
Antarctica - NO UPDATES
Oceania - NO UPDATES

So in all fairness, South America, Africa and Oceania (Australia/NZ)  are all due at least one update each before Asia gets revisited.

I wouldn't consider WU1 as Asia, it was just the country of Japan, which is a very small fraction of Asia.

Asia has 30% of the world's landmass and 60% of its population, so I'm not sure this is an apples to apples comparison. 🙂 Besides, it's got a huge amount of variety (Siberia to the Borneo rainforests to the Arabian desert to the Himalayas to the Indian plain etc. etc. etc.).

FYI, there's an excellent WMKK here:

They did Japan as the first update, even before the US. But I agree that Asia is a ginormous continent with many great places to fly.

According to the Navigraph survey from 2020 there are hardly any simmers in Asia. (or at least who participated in the survey)

Seeing MS preference for developed countries if you are in South America I would not hold my breath for updates anytime soon.

They will still pick them based on user base and availability of data.

They're probably going to go with the areas that have the most players and that are easier to find data for. There are more German simmers than Vietnamese simmers. China has a lot of restrictions so there are going to be less users and it's going to be harder to purchase elevation data.

Actually i hope they do a "low hanging fruit world update" once.

Like do all the desert/tundra/ice-areas in 1 world update, since they dont have trees/buildings/roads/other-infrastructure, its essentially just a mesh+sattexture update, and the airports are mostly simple.

But yeah South East Asia is an essential area/hub to be updated, very busy with airtraffic always.

I haven’t covered everywhere but the satellite imagery for India seems generally very good. With Orbx’s Mumbai scenery, flying around that area with dusk monsoon clouds is currently my favourite msfs quick trip.

Was the survey only in English though? If it was it might be like having a survey in Mandarin and getting no European participants in the survey, but as we know there thousands of simmers in Europe.
