Question about MSFS Autopilot and PMDG 737

Featured Replies

Like many of you, I'm anxiously awaiting PMDG's 737 for MSFS. Here's my question: Can PMDG make a fully functioning FMS -- in which you can select waypoint altitudes, speeds, and flap configurations -- or does a fully functioning FMS have to wait for Asobo's completion of the underlying code as well?

We'll find out in 2022 🤣

I thought the 737 was supposed to be released by PMDG in September.

Suppose to be.

I think they said when RSR starts showing screenshots in the forum then that means its in BETA.

I doubt it will come before Xmas though. That's just my personal opinion however, it will be worth the wait.

To actually answer your question....YES.  They make full featured ("study level") add-ons.  You can check their site out.  They've been around since almost the beginning.

There's nothing standing in the way of the items you've listed; they've all already been done in MSFS.

Given what we've seen from FENIX on their A320 it seems that what we consider to be "study level" on a FMC and the features we want will be possible as long as it is perhaps being computed and then set off the simulator and not actually using the simulators flight plan manager. Much like FENIX is using the PROSIM systems I would imagine that PMDG is most likely doing something similar.

I say that because everything that I've read or viewed so far with other developers it seems that ASOBO perhaps is not making many changes to the base code unless someone else makes the change on the code i.e.  Working Title. Now, my hope is that ASOBO relies on the word of partners like PMDG to introduce the changes they need to make the code more friendly to developers and their innovations. I do however emphasize that the "hope" doesn't seem to be happening as every time a new sim updates comes I always see the developers needing to make changes to accommodate their released products instead of being ahead of it leaving us users waiting sometimes days. I also notice that you see more and more many freeware developers (Salty, FBW) make request to add features that are needed to replicate what we have already enjoyed in FSX, P3D such as the API drawing for the Terrain and Weather Radar.

So, I believe in PMDG's ability to make the calculations and emulation off the simulator as they've been doing in the P3D with the ground handling and other systems.

But in the end, I don't normally give my two cents as elegantly as this (if it is at all compared to many other here) but these are just my humble opinions and time will eventually tell what we end up with.

PMDG is going to have to step up to Fenix level,no resting on their laurels.

The base simulator itself will become much more robust over time.  At least that's my take based on Jorg's statements.  They've also hired more just for the SDK side of the house.  Jorg wants all the core features of the sim to be at the "hard-core" simmers level.  That could mean a bunch of things and take a lot of time, but at least their development pace is extremely fast.  That's the good news, or bad news, depending...lol.  It also means, over time there will be lot more variables for 3PDs to run with hopefully.

I think in the near future things should settle down in terms of sim updates, etc..  They're just starting to get their second wind.

I think it's the best to ask this question on PMDG forum. But if I remember correctly FMC suppose to be custom modeled

Yes you are right a lot of the stuff is custom because you will never ever have that functionality in the base sim

Stock FMC actually never had complete features that includes beloved XP11. In fact, some XP11 developers  were criticized for using stock FMC. For example FLyJSim 737 had stock FMC and many people opted to used paid CIVA add on instead.

Working Title did not use the base built in MSFS flight plan system for the NXi they designed a custom one.

.. just saying ...
