Yet another virtual airline/passenger plugin

I think you have skipped my other comments, as I was discussing the passengers being entered on the Flight Config screen and then XP automatically loading them into seats intelligently according to region and flight types. I don't want to takeoff in a small plane in Japan and see it loaded with a bunch of drunk Germans!

So ask airplane developers to step up their game, it is not an Xplane limitation whatsoever, more if speaking v12.

It is an Xplane limitation because it needs to be driven from X Plane Config Screen and X Plane must have the code to calculate the passengers and draw them, for any aircraft (default or addon) that supports passengers.

No it is not.

You can create your own UI in Xplane, instanced-drawing is in place, FMOD 2.0 in v12. If you want old school smoking passengers (smoke particles) you can do it as well 😉 you can do it for sceneries as well.

Only thing is better animations, those are coming as part of an obj++ revesion in the "medium term".

There is no technology limiation here in Xplane, question is if you are expecting LR to focus on this rather than 3rd party's stepping their game.

Again, you are not getting it. I am talking about entering the passengers on the X Plane main flight config screen. Not some popup from a third party Dev in "plugins" menu.  It's an X Plane screen so that this can work for across the board.

Also noticed that you have same poor mindset that everything in XP must be done by third parties and not LR, whereas this should not be. Do you think passengers were made by some addon developer in Bus Sim?  Think again!

Not everything, but i'm realistic about what LR want to bring for their product out of the box. 3d passengers imo should be in the 3rd party realm instead just like in MSFS. Why is it a bad act for LR while MSFS does not bring that out of the box as well?

The fact that a certain feature is not implemented out of the box does not mean it is behind technologically, you comparing to bus simulator is fundamentally wrong.

Anyway we can just agree to disagree, different priorities, i'm a bit disappointed that 3d grass is not in v12.00 but confirmed to be on the to do list and will be easy for artists to implement, so all is good, even LRs internal artists are begging them to do that already.

Point is, passengers animation is perfectly feasible, theres even a few plugins out already that will do it, its just not something anyone wants or is willing to pay for, let alone willing to make.

If @Greazer wants it so badly, Blender tutorial is here:

Isnt it funny that someone wrote on the other forum that Laminar should get back to the basics, flight simming. instead of making it look pretty. Dont need passenger load on. just planes that fly like planes

Greazer is derailing again. I do not want the limited team at Laminar to spent time and resources on a passenger sim, while there are still enough topics to be covered.

If a third party can do it and make profit out of it, they can try to fill this gap, but for one I will not spent money on such a plugin.

Feasible, but in no way easy to do. Right now there is no way to do bone animations in X-Plane, which basically means any animations would be pretty basic (rotating limbs etc) and pretty clunky. So things like animated people etc has not really been done on X-Plane in the scale it has on FSX and MFS. I have seen several attempts at doing it over the years, but none were as good as the ones seen in FSX (which has support for things like this).

It's also a surprisingly popular thing that people want.

Animating characters is really really hard and time consuming, you need a large amount of input data (e.g. captured from those position sensing cameras), and really skilled guys to do it, XP/flightsim dev just doesn't seem to have attracted them, better than Quake 2 style animations are already possible, instead they stop at

I was quite surprised to see Ben talking about the skeletal stuff, afaik the main benefit of that is for use with ragdoll physics engines, and XP doesn't even have more than rudimentary collision detection.

Not quite, rigging and most of the basics are pretty quick on the 3D modelling side. The roadblock comes in when you want to control that in XP. Say for something like GSX, you need to set up a whole module that can sequence and position people. That's development time figuring out how to do 3D pathing, integration with aircraft systems (e.g. boarding cargo) and playing animations at the right ques.

Also having wings that are not split up into seperate objects, animating spring and wire components on landing gear, potential fuselage flex for hard landings, bending trees/grass, jetways and jetway canopies/rotundas. Also potential for as you said, ragdoll. Rope, clothing (for what reason I dunno, but have fun with that xD)

That’s why I prefer to fly cargo.  Too many creepy people want to fly with me. 😄
