I guess it's time for another lap around the "let's bash X-Plane and LR" track.

I extend my compliments to you for being able to judge a whole flight sim based on a couple of videos and screenshots of an early build that is still kept in house for further developing and testing.  Also, your uncanny ability on estimating a persons worth, simply by....doing what, exactly?  Honestly, I don't even know how you know what his worth is. I have my own (reliable) sources.  But I'm assuming you're just...guessing(?)

My hat's off to you.

From long before its release until just perhaps a month or so ago, there were many XP and P3D pilots and 3PDs viciously bashing MSFS in its forum here.

You, sir, would never do anything like that, would you? Is turnabout not fair play?

Meh.  Yes and no.  Personally, I don't like MSFS.  I've tried it, and this is coming from someone who was there from FS5 to FSX.  With a little P3D sprinkled in.

But here's the real kicker.  I don't go in the MSFS forums, every day, and keep pointing out what it lacks (which is quite a lot).  I dismiss what I don't like and lean over to what I do like.  And I have absolutely invited anyone and everyone else to do the same.  Don't like X-Plane?  No one is holding a gun to your head.  Adios, Ciao and ariverderci...and go for what makes you happy.

Quite simple, really.

Oh, and it's not because I'm in the "this vs that" camp.  I actually tried using FSX and X-Plane several years ago.  Couldn't do it. All the keys are different, and the feeling is different.  It's not wrong.  It's just personal preference.

Oh, now I get I think. Austin the Samaritan needed the money for rescueing animal shelters, that's why we couldn't get contemporary graphics, smooth weather changes and realistically looking ground textures.

But who doesn't like animals! (And Teslas!)

Laminar Research customer -- Asobo/MS customer -- not an X-Aviation customer - or am I? 😉

I get it, man, I do. I'd really like to like XP. Choices = good.

I know you're a solid XP 3PD and I'm curious:

What aspects of MSFS do you not like?

That's opening Pandora's box, and I'll get the MSFS brigade in here telling me I don't know what I'm talking about.  Even after I post images and videos of the issues I've seen to back up my statements.

If you want to take it private, fine.  But I'm not going to post it in a public chat.

I even know some X-plane developers who have made more than $1 million from 1 product in less than a year.

No you don't. No need for this. I don't believe you. Name them.

considering he made good 6 figures on the tbm and

why dont you believe him?

NVidia settings are the same.

I´ve had some Vulkan related crashes in the last month, but those are easy to identify and not my biggest concern. Besides, P3D also suffers from DXGI hung issues. MSFS seems to be the most stable of the three in that regard (until they change the api to DX12, of course).

Sorry for the the delay, had to step out for  a min.

I am glad you told me that NVidia setting are the same because for X-Plane, they not should be.

Keeping in mind that X Plane uses Opengl and Vulkan. The default graphic setting in nvidia are setup for Directx.

If you want to experiment,

1) Run X Plane and load up a cessna and it park it at KLGA and have the aircraft face Manhattan with World trade center in the middle. (Don't zoom in.)  I use this as a benchmark for setting adjustments in Xplane.

2) Have your frame count on display and some type of temperature monitor for your CPU and GPU. Note the FPS and the temps for about 5 mins.

Next:  Lets try to optimize it.

What you can do in order to optimizes X Plane for your setup is to do the following:

3) Go into the nvidia control panel and in the "manage 3D settings", "Program setting" tab: Select the a program to customize in this case  "X Plane.exe".

4) If you already have this setup then go in the program tab and make changes that are listed below. (Leave the Global setting where there are, that's your default)

Below these instructions is a guild from the link I have posted. You may use that or go direct the the link.

5) After making the changes repeat steps 1 and 2. See if there are any improvements in the performance, temperatures and stability. Check both Opengl and Vulkan when you run these test. The link also has a guild on specific X Plane Graphic settings however is mostly for 2560x1440p

Make several changes to get a feel for how they work best.

My thoughts are that your GPU maybe is reaching its Thermal Design Power limits sooner than it should under X-plane when it not under the MSFS and PD3. What cause this is inadequate cooling, process that are running that are not needed (directx) or bad code in the form of bugs (poorly design plugins) So to eliminate that issue is the reduce the unneeded processes when running X Plane.

This is from the link:

https://forum.thresholdx.net/topic/3770-x-plane-performance-settings-guide/

nVidia Control Panel
Most settings should be default under the Global Settings tab. Exceptions are:

  • Anisotropic - Application controlled
  • Anti-aliasing Mode - Application controlled
  • Anti-aliasing Setting - Application controlled
  • Anti-aliasing Transparency - Off
  • OpenGL rendering - Auto
  • Texture Filtering Quality - Quality
  • Texture Filtering - Trilinear - ON
  • Threaded Optimization - auto
  • Triple buffering - off
  • Everything else is default

Have a specific Program Settings tab for X-Plane 11. Everything here should be default from Global Settings except:

  • AA Gamma Correction - OFF
  • Power Management - Maximum performance
  • Texture Filtering (negative LOD bias) - Clamp
  • Texture Filtering Quality - Performance
  • Texture Filtering Tri-linear Optimization - ON
  • Threaded Optimization - Auto
  • Vertical sync - Adaptive
  • The other AA stuff at the top of the list are Application controlled by X-Plane.

What? That graph proves nothing? The graph is usage not sales., No. I don't believe him. Who in your estimation is making $1m per year profit from an XP addon? I would be genuinely interested to know? Name the developer.

Who said they make $1 million per year??  How about you re-read my post. What exactly did I say?
