Those clouds at 7:55

That rain at 8:42.

🥰

I won't mention any more. Those 2 are just the tip of the iceberg.

Ready to get my hands on this one!

Sorry to burst your bubble, but anyone can tell those clouds look very pixelated and one can only hope there is work done to smooth them over.

It's not rain just a few light drops. But regardless, the part about scenery developers having to bake things into their scenery to get it working doesn't sound good IMO and actually sounds like hard coding.  If they came out and said that rain and snow effects will all work seamlessly and generically across airports, terrain and elevation changes, then I would be much more impressed.

I know a good optometrist.

You obviously didn't see the absolute seamless transitions, either.  Or you just decided to completely ignore them.

Let's see you pay X-Plane a compliment.  One time.  You can do it.  I know you can.

Go on.  "The cloud transitions look very impressive."

Water falling from the clouds is considered rain where I'm from.  And the effect the drops are having on the puddles, and no effect on the areas with no puddles, looks very impressive.

I think I know what would impress you, Greazer.  Loading up X-Plane, smelling Jet A1 when it loads, and feeling a breeze when doing a walk around.  You claim to be a developer.  Maybe you can make all that and sell it to LR.

While you said IMO, it's time to stop talking and complaining about stuff that clearly, you, and others do not understand.

Sorry of it comes rude, but it appears people are looking to complain...just to complain, without understandning.

For the quoted part; shader effects, need "data". Giving the ability to control those effects through WeatherFX textures, is not "hard" nor a bad choice, for an artist it's a very important SDK part. In fact, this is how modern rendering and art works, shaders that can be controlled by textures. The final result is mixed with some game noise (and Xplane12 does that as well) to know where it actually rains etc...

LR are doing a rather industry standard practice that every AAA game does for weather effects on ground, but here, it is for some reason a bad thing.

So a new boxing match starting ?

When ?

Will it  be Ali vs Foreman or Ali vs Frazier ?

And it took less than 10 minutes for the first X-Plane "hater" (hard not to use that word) to voice his opinion.  I'd like to see this thread make a turn from this post to a more positive reaction, and, if it's deemed necessary, a critically constructive one.

It'd be a nice change of pace to what has become standard in here, with the small percentage of MSFS users feeling the need to bash the product.

Let's see.

Let's hope not.  That definitely was not my intention.  I saw the video posted on Facebook, and decided to post it here.

It seemed that anyone posting something positive about xp12 gets insulted on this forum. Why is that, I wonder?

It very well could be.  I haven't seen it, but when I saw that come up in my FB feed, and realized it hadn't been posted here, I figured, why not.  I know quite a few people don't have Facebook, purely because they hate it.

Low self esteem, I dont think some people ever get out the right side of the bed. I used to think my life was miserable than I discoverd the complainers on this XPLANE forum now I think my left is absolutely fabulous.

Baking information is extremely common in the gaming industry. Up until Unreal Engine 5 (which isn't out yet), users had to bake lighting maps to their objects to even get shadows/lighting looking correct. Without this additional baked information, the engine would have no way of knowing where to place special effects such as rain and it could end up really messy if the engine just tried to guess and developers had no way to tune or turn off the effect. Rain, snow etc reacts differently based on the surface it hits, so how would the engine know a particular surface was supposed be glass, or rough brick or whatever if it wasn't pre-baked in to the model??? I'd hate for the engine to try to guess rather than letting me choose where and how I want the effect on my models
