X-Plane 12 announcement keynote

With a class A sim like X Plane, It would be great. I saw the video you posted just now. A big jump forward for the sim as we know it . Those diesel sounds will be replaced by electric motor sounds, like one airline did with their baggage conveyors. here in the states,

It'd be a nice change of pace to what has become standard in here, with the small percentage of MSFS users feeling the need to bash the product.

Let's see.

Lets not generalize MSFS users that come and bash here it's probably less than 00.1% , the other 99% are  bashing their own product on the other side. Carry on.

Goran: I remember the days of the Hough Company pronounced as  Huff. [they made construction equipment] designing tugs that fit under the belly of a 747 powered by the GM[Detroit Diesel]. With the 2 cycle engine sound, and the smoke to go with it. Pan Am had those at Kennedy  Airport.

Precisely.  That's almost exactly what I said.  (I'm quoting you in the quote below, but it's what you quoted me as saying)

I doubt any of us here have a problem with the vast majority of them.  I'm even friends with an MSFS developer, and we chat regularly on discord.  But let's not jinx it, please.  It's actually peaceful in here now, and a very welcome atmosphere.

I seriously doubt you'll find anything with a "name" on it.  We're talking copyright law here.  I'm no lawyer, but AFAIK, if a commercial product uses a name in that product, the developer could be liable.  Again, I'm not a lawyer, and I'm going by what I saw a few years ago when I wanted to do something to one of my own add ons that involved a name brand.

But when it comes to equipment, it's not all that hard to make the actual vehicles.  I did some pro bono work for another X-Plane developer (actually it was a favor for a favor kind of thing) and I made a few vehicles for him. So it's definitely in the realm of possibility.  It'd be very nice to see more of that stuff.

BTW, in the timestamped video I posted, that's my fuel truck from XP11 driving past on the apron. 😉

I got a steak dinner in New York for that.  It was during the Florida expo, and a bunch of us flew up to New York.

What I read in the Q&A they posted yesterday (that was in addition to this video) is that they plan to improve ground textures in this cycle. Some stuff like urban areas and airport grounds will be done with 12.0 while the other ones are planned to do in the 12.x cycle but not in the .0 release. So that sounds pretty good too. Let's get the core running and then, hopefully as version 12.x matures, they will be gradually pretty-fying some more stuff. Solid plan as far as I am concerned. Hopefully they stick with it.

I'll definitely pitch it to the LR folks.  But, worse case scenario, another dev could make another ground traffic add on.

It's not very hard to do.

My positive takeaway are weather , cloud and tree enhancement was long overdue.  I am looking forward to see how far they will push that A330. Sound immersion is something that I am not sure. when I go to an airport, I don't hear crickets and birds. I found that as a weird features maybe it will be great.

My negative are what they have shown of autogen so far was underwhelming but it's still a WIP so maybe it will be much better. They didn't show lighting is a good light. Again, this must be WIP but it was really flat in a lot of footage they have shown.  I am concern about how modernize their rendering pipeline is. They haven't talked about TAA or having a lot more graphics sliders so that user can tweak the game to run better for their system. No talk at all of multithreading. That is very concerning. It's one of the major issue of XP11. The fact it only uses 2 threads in a world where CPU have gone the route of horizontal scaling instead of vertical.  The game desperately needs to use modern CPU better.

I was not convince that XP12 is a next-generation leap forward but it is progress. any progress is good. we haven't seen a roadmap of what they are planning for XP12 so maybe they do have more plan to enhance this further. I guess we will have to wait.

I knew it wouldn’t last. What a shame.

I don't understand you. I know you are a commercial member and you make your money by selling a product on Xplane but your attitude is so bad toward others. Maybe you don't need my money but I am not inclined to buy a product you sell just by the way you response to other. I am being honest about what I have seen in the keynotes. I am a user of XP11, I own a word not allowed load of payware the platform. I am allow to criticized it as a user. I don't have to drink the kool aid. I still fly XP11 weekly. Why do you have your nose up LR butt so far that you can't see that there is good and bad that was shown. I was being objective.  My concern are real. I want XP12 to succeed. I will buy it. One thing is sure. I won't buy your payware just on the principle that the way you deal with others that have a different opinion than you.

Your entire post reads like a rotten tomatoes review.
Did you even watch the video?  Did you know the scenery is getting recut and the scenery artists are yet to finish the scenery?

Did you listen to Daniela and her whole segment on the sounds??
Did you see the tab on the bottom right corner of each segment highlighting what the focus is?

My guess is no to all the above.

How about you focus on what is shown instead of skimming through it and passing judgement on things that are not the focus.

Criticise all you like. But make it constructive and show examples.

And as far as you not wanting to buy my add ons, I think I’ll survive.  I’d rather not have a customer who accuses me of having my nose up Laminars rear end.

They are aware that multithreading is important (infact one of the reasons of switching to Vulkan, was to allow XP to be more multithreaded). Ben replied in the developer's blog, basically saying that they try to introduce multi-core for additional features whenever appropriate, that the priority for 12.0 will be to improve FPS as much as possible, and then they'll consider introducing more multithreading again.

Ben Supnik says:

There’s no single “we did more multi-core just to get more perf” push in 12.0. All new features go in using multi-core where appropriate, e.g. Austin’s new weather system – the file processing happens while you fly using multi-core – there’s no other way we’d consider doing the feature.

But multicore is a means to an end, not an end to itself. For example, the FFT water _used_ to be multicore and now it’s on the GPU. We made this decision because the whole system runs better when the water starts on the GPU – it means the water is where it needs to be most and we have to haul less data over the bus.

At some point post ship we may do another “make more things multicore” – we have seen bottlenecks on large-core-count systems with DSF loads where things could be better. But more likely our first performance pass will just be “fix anything we can to get better FPS and load times, everything is fair game.”
