And, you know, the little fact that he knows nothing about games development or managing such a project, unlike the existing management at Asobo who (I'm sure are not perfect, like every manager I've ever known, and I include myself, but) have guided it to the point where it is now, which is still a revolutionary piece of software that is useable and heading in the right direction.

Now, unrealistic release schedules and pressure from the publisher... That's a whole different matter, and negatively affects many game development projects that I've known of from insider knowledge.

As a manager you surely also know that if you dont put any pressure on deadlines they are most of the time not going to be met.

I'd rather have a release with bugs and move foward with solutions (hotfixes) because whatever form of beta testing you chose there will always be items missed.

Well, yes. That isn't the only kind of pressure I meant, though. The deadlines will normally be met, not a problem per se, albeit with bugs, as you mentioned, and/or completely missing features. I also don't mind a release with some issues that get patched later, just because it's par for the course nowadays. We're on the same page there.

But many here want a perfect release (unlikely to happen, no matter what), or at least a release with fewer glaring issues, and complete inflexibility from a publisher's stance (on deadlines and other project requirements) can lead to releases that could have been in a much better position, given more time and/or accepting that some things can't be done at all in the way they want them to be. Sticking rigidly to a release date, or to an absurd idea, rather than listening to a development team for a short delay, can ultimately harm a project's image unnecessarily. Look at SU5. Look at No Man's Sky's launch. Etc.

Compromise and flexibility between parties is more valuable. And I think we've seen that happening here, where release windows have calmed down for the sim.

EDIT: A little anecdote about the kind of pressure from publishers put on development teams, which gamers won't be aware of, without going into too many specifics:

Publisher: You need to get these assets into the Switch version as they are.

Developer porting to Nintendo Switch: No problem. So, we have a tool that automatically scales the character models based on these parameters.

Publisher: No, you need to get those character assets into the Switch version without changing them in any way at all.

Developer: The Nintendo Switch can't handle each character model having 10,000 polygons, and with everything else going on too.

Publisher: Well, the assets must be identical to the PC version in every way.

Result: Crippled Nintendo Switch version of game that can't possibly run.

those poor millions of souls who don't know about avsim forums, nor deadlines or betas, who simply enjoy their MSFS and one November day - oops, surprise, a new mandatory update is here for you. ok,  I'll take it. oooh nice, all these new goodies, but wait, I didn't order this and don't have to pay for it? - and I think to myself what a wonderful sim world this will be.

for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."

very nice.

Which is lovely until they find out that feature X is broken and addons A, B and C aren't working either.

If MSFS hadn't release the debacle that was SU5 just a few months ago i might be more willing to cut them some slack but right now they have not earnt that.

I'm pretty sure if features are broken end users WILL notice, even the ones who aren't AVSim residents.

OK you're just talking utter rubbish now. Time to move on.

don't take this too serious, as an end user I am just a little angry I can't beta test SU7, I was so looking forward to repair my crashed DirectX12 installation and re-install Windows, I had reserved the whole weekend for this. instead I have to plan a flight to a new exotic destination and enjoy another smooth uneventful flying weekend. I deserve better than this! 😊

I'm not at all angry I can't get to test SU7 - I do testing to help make the sim better but it is an utter pain in the neck at times - I'm AM concerned what this means for the quality of the SU7 release and even more importantly what it will mean for 3rd party devs and mods if they can't get early access to the new version to test and update their products ahead of the 18th,

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Unfortunately, they probably won't.  SU7 is tied with the Game of the Year release.  They spent some marketing and advertising money on November 18th already being the release date for Game of the Year.

Just like the X-Box release, it appears November 18th is an immovable date.

And just like the X Box release, there could be dozens of bugs in this new release, but it will be published anyway  because this time instead of X box, it will be Game of the year as their number one priority. The users will just have to deal with this until SU8 fixes everything... For me, MSFS is running great now, the one major potential downside is the non beta tested updates wrecking everything.

I could be proven wrong, but I don't think Game of the Year edition and update 7 are tied. The latest release date for SU7, on the latest roadmap, is listed as To Be Announced.

As I said in my post further up this thread, I think we are starting to see signs of Asobo reaching a position of compromise/flexibility with Microsoft on release dates (which have been set in stone, this past year, by Microsoft), and the TBA next to SU7 on the roadmap seems to support this.
