MSFS - Made it my only civilian simulator

Featured Replies

I recently tried installing both X-Plane and P3D, just to have them, feel them out after flying MSFS. Figured I'd enjoy a few PMDG products and the Zibo while I waited for some more things to arrive in MSFS...

My God that lasted for just a few days. I was right back to installing 17.000 products, digging for keys, setting up this, working out that. Then you've spent hours getting it all set up and it still just looks... mediocre at best and runs worse than MSFS once you've got a few addons going.

Then I realized after I started using MSFS, I've actually been flying. Not wasting hours on orthos, setting up a million things and still being disappointed. Just flying and enjoying myself, being able to focus on the planes and the experience.

No matter how much makeup you put on a pig, it still looks like a pig.

But in this case it would be piglets. 😏

I started ripping out P3D. Got it down to bare sim. Deleted generated files, un-installed all 3rd party planes, even the two hi-fi apps. All orbx, etc. Then deleted tons of files containing apps and mods from ver 4.5 thru ver 5Hf1. and then.... wait a minute.

I reinstalled the Orbx regions, landclass, the base and vector, then reinstalled ASP3D and chaseplane (bypassed the Cloud Art), then A2A P180. started up P3D5 and pushed up all settings. _I decided to keep it installed. The only other thing left to install is the Majestic Queen. I agree it's not MSFS 2020,but its still got heart for a good plane or two. It might be considered a pig by some, but you can't argue with the mechanics.

Default Xplane does look mediocre, but just one Orbx region and one addon aircraft gives a solid experience.  MSFS is indeed a superb sim, but plenty of life left in the current XPlane.

Interesting post...I, too, have purchased every major simulator plus add ons (way too many $$$ worth But hours and hours of time too) and MSFS is (AFTER the latest updates) the best...on my 10900K and RX 6800 16GB MSFS works great locked at 30 and it’s silky smooth and gorgeous without my fans sounding like a 727 on takeoff...I tried to get XP11 to go over the weekend and it was very stuttery, same with P3Dv5, even on modest settings.

I’ve spent hours with XP11 and loved it, but it’s just not the same, nor is any kind of landclass after Orthoscenery.

And both XP11 and P3Dv5 take eons to load up a scenario, while MSFS has you up and flying in seconds...I don’t have that much leisure time and all that loading time adds up.

AFS2 was mentioned, now THAT simulator Is very silky smooth even with Orbx scenery...I had really hoped that it’s engine would be developed into a truly great performing sim but it wasn’t to be.

Well I have kept P3D (4.5 & 5.2) for the Majestic Q400, the F1 Mustang and Kingair (with F1's excellent G1000 in both), the RealAir Turbine Duke plus all the stuff from FSLabs and PMDG.  I suspect it will be some time before all these or their equivalents are available in MSFS2020.  If you fly to and from major 3rd party airports in large jets at FL 350 or between dusk and dawn their is little visual difference with MSFS 2020.  That being said the attraction of MSFS2020 is obvious and I am spending more time there as time goes by.
