November 8, 20214 yr Once PMDG releases the NGX for MSFS, P3D will be wiped from my drive and be history. Just hurts thinking of the thousands of dollars I spent on addons over the years. Already using MSFS as my ONLY GA sim. Even the A2A Cessna's won't lure me back to P3D. With the GA plane mods out, the defaults are actually pretty good. November 8, 20214 yr I finally removed P3D a few weeks back. I hadn’t flown it in sixth months and frankly given how much tinkering, tweaking and updating I found it took to keep it running I decided the time had come. Once we get third party AI traffic (looks like coming very soon) the core sim will be very close to perfect for me (ATC/ATIS would be the other point of contention), at least for major items, there’s always more improvements that can be made. Bring on more third party airliners and I’m a fully happy camper, I do hope someone brings a Q400 to the sim at some point. November 8, 20214 yr No way I can remove other sims/ Have a need to fly a 757/767,MD11 Freighter. PMDG 737. King Air 350 etc!!!! Their functionality is vitally important!

November 8, 20214 yr The last time I used P3D was October of last year and I think I removed it from my system in early November, so about a year ago. Despite the excellent planes that third-party developers crafted for that sim I just did not have the same sensation of actually flying as I had in MSFS. MSFS still had a way to go to address issues and for more complex planes to arrive, but I decided to accept that, to use the sim with its limitations and be on the journey of it gradually improving. And it has improved a great deal since November last year and the first glimpses of more complex aircraft also arrived. I just don't have the time in my life -- or the financial resources -- to maintain more than one simulator the way I wish, and I am very happy with my choice and the direction MSFS is going. However, I responded to this post more because I wanted to acknowledge the commitment and the talent of so many third-party developers who made those engaging aircraft and associated add-ons for P3D. Without them I would likely have left flight simulation behind many years ago, but more than that, they gave me thousands of hours of enjoyable learning. I do hope many of them will find their way to MSFS. Naturally, not all will because it is a different platform with different strengths and weaknesses and a different design philosophy. If they do find a need that can be addressed or an opportunity that can be opened up in MSFS that would be great and I look forward to supporting them. MSFS 2024. November 8, 20214 yr The scenery is where MSFS really excels. As someone who doesn't fly to the same airports and cities I would need to spend thousands in other sims for what I get on MSFS by default. Edited November 8, 20214 yr by sanh
November 8, 20214 yr I kept P3D in my system even though I was only using it after the first months of MSFS maybe once a month, and like the OP would run into 'issues' if not flying regularly. I only flew in P3D to keep skills up for the PMDG birds. I needed to do a reinstall of Windows 10 a couple of months ago so at that point I said good bye to P3D once and for all time--never could stand the official $200 charge for honest adult users, and the myriad addons required to make it tolerable. The hangers on there like to dismissively call MSFS' biggest solid attribute 'eye candy' or 'pretty' in an attempt to denigrate the value of what really is far less 'pretty', but instead flat out far more 'real'--the giant irony is that those same people spent hundreds and hundreds trying to get the paint-by-numbers land class garbage that is P3D default to look half ways plausible, and compared to MSFS, half ways is way too generous. And then there is performance: towards the end I finally gave up and disabled most purchased scenery and flew the PMDG birds from dusk to dawn only when scenery, save the nice 3rd party airports, didn't matter at all. This let me keep settings modest even for a very decent system and be able to land anywhere smoothly. Like the OP I find myself flying far more than I ever did in FSX/P3D and I used them since FS9 steadily. It is so amazing to be able to do a complete install of MSFS and whatever addons you bought or tried in a matter of a few clicks, versus the days of effort and organization required to resuscitate P3D. Addon releases for MSFS will undoubtedly accelerate. I still fly Xplane regularly because I mostly fly in West USA so scenery is covered by Orbx. Apart from weather the experience is similar and I can still fly some of my favourite aircraft. MSFS may one day be my only sim if the next version of Xplane flops and A2A, AirfoilLabs and others release aircraft. MSFS is currently running superbly on my PC and I an enjoying it very much, but I don't see a reason to stop flying my favourite aircraft just to support one sim. November 8, 20214 yr I own XP11, P3Dv5, MSFS, and DCS. I use all of them. Each offers something the others may not. Everyone has their reasons for why they fly a certain sim. It’s great to have choices.

November 8, 20214 yr The sim I was using before MSFS was still ole FSX. I knew MSFS was coming out and that I’d need a new rig, and all I knew for years and years was FSX. It looked okay and I had a bunch of RealAir planes like the Duke and Lanceair, which were fantastic. Once I finally got my new computer and switched over to MSFS, I was floored. To go from something so antiquated to something so far advanced was mind-boggling. Sure, it still has some work that needs to be done but every time I fire up this sim, I have several “omg moments”. The fact that the scenery looks very different everywhere you fly keeps me excited to fly all over the world.
