Interesting, I wonder how different the various planes are performance wise and if the base back with only four planes has the faster ones or the slower ones… Dave Current System (Running at 4k): ASUS ROG STRIX X670E-F, Ryzen 7800X3D, RTX 5090, 55" Samsung Q80T, 64GB DDR5 6000 RAM, EVGA CLC 280mm AIO Cooler, Brunner CLS-E NG Yoke, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS & Stick, Thrustmaster TCA Quadrant & Add-on, VirtualFly Ruddo+, TQ6+ and Yoko+, GoFlight MCP-PRO and EFIS, Skalarki FCU and MCDU

My first thought was to go wide then cut the apex of the turn like a meandering best line would be on a race track, but of course the physics involved here are totally different...time to experiment and yes, as you say, have some fun! Here's a video made by a fellow IL2 pilot MonoStripeZebra who posted this on the IL2 Sturmovik forum. Shows very well an efficient line through the pylon turns and apexing just at/past the pylon: In an extreme coincidence I just bumped him down a notch when I made the 9th fastest lap time in the Pitts time trial. Note the specific Pitts aircraft that dominates the top of the list. Kinda feel guilty about doing this to a fellow combat sim pilot but I'm sure he'll claw his way back (and/or shoot me down online in the future)! November 20, 20214 yr I've noticed some apparent syncing issues in the multiplayer feature. Started an L39 race. There was only one other guy in my lobby. After the countdown, and before I even got to the first pylon, I was 17 seconds ahead of him. Now, I flatter myself that I'm a halfway decent sim pilot, but I don't think I'm quite that good. 😉 Other than that, I'm really impressed with the module. Lots of fun, and stuff like this could drive enough interest that even more 3pds/hardware makers will get in on offering us stuff. Yep - and I think that like pretty much anything else Asobo has done they have some corrections to make along that line - there are also some outlier #1 fastest worldwide lap times for some of the time trial classes that have me scratching my head, but it's not a big deal and I'm sure it'll all shake out. It's a good time, all things being said. I've a funny feeling that YouTube is going to be choked with video of Air Racing so I went ahead an captured one of the first races in the P-61 Unlimited class that I tried tonight. After doing some warm-ups with Time Trials, of course. Pretty happy with how this turned out despite having a quick TrackIR glitch early on. SO glad I mapped the "Toggle Head Tracking" and "Re-Center:" assignments to my flightstick in anticipation of a glitch! 😁 Also, I gotta say that FSRealistic makes this an absolute HOOT - listen to what happens between pylons 4 and 5 in the later laps, like lap 3 or (especially) 4! December 5, 20214 yr Would like to share that there's now a Discord channel that's been set up for Reno racing and seems to be taking off. I flew and chatted with a couple of other pilots last night, one being the person that set it up (DrMacabre, who's English is far better than my French, and is a pretty well-rounded sim pilot from the sound of things) and the other person was a retired RW pilot (HarryHowzer) with apparently plenty of stick time in helicopters (Allouette) as well as T-6's early in his aviation career, who was having a good time with the Reno expansion. Was fun comparing notes and racing each other. He whipped me pretty solidly as well - watch out for that guy, not exactly "Xbox crowd" material! 😁 Not only does it make a world of difference to have comms with others on the course, it will be great to help build a community around this. All are welcome, so here's a link! https://discord.gg/rUYbxEdx Edited December 5, 20214 yr by Stoopy "That's what" - She

I’m just not sure what other tips might exist to shave off seconds per lap like I would in simracing. I have had quite a few Reno races now. and have won a third of them, but you will meet another player that is going 3seconds a lap faster and he just flies away from you, yet the aircraft are all supposed to be equal? I dont like saying this but I think there may be a bit of cheating going on. I have bought two T6's "Big Red" and "Gotcha," Gotcha when I purchased her was 2seconds a lap faster than Big Red so I am not so sure all the aircraft are equal. Thoughts? I have bought two T6's "Big Red" and "Gotcha," Gotcha when I purchased her was 2seconds a lap faster than Big Red so I am not so sure all the aircraft are equal. Thoughts? I have a fair amount of time in the T6 races as well, and as far as cheating - I understand how it's tempting to make that the first reaction, but after putting in quite an amount of time with time trials and practice in the T6, I have since learned that there are indeed things that you can do to reduce your lap time significantly over most racers who just put the throttle forward and yank and bank. Hence for the last week I have been one of those people that just fly away from most racers, which I actually do not enjoy doing. But, Asobo have not given us a way to share tips and chat during a race. On the Discord channel above, I'm hoping to be able to have a "Speed Tips" section. But the basics are: Make sure you are getting 100% throttle throw an your throttle axis, and even set up a small Extremity Dead Zone to be sure. The T-6 likes a reduction in RPM to about 2100 RPM to get it on the step Word is that mixture makes a difference (as it should) and some people map a button to the "Set Best Mixture" command which they swear by. I have mapped a spare axis to the Mixture axis and am playing with it, but apparently extreme leaning is needed to make a difference. However... If you lean the T-6 too far the engine will just quit and richening the mixture won't get it to catch again, unlike all other aircraft in MSFS. CTRL-E will get it going but by that time you'll be far off the pace. Adjust mixture at your own risk! Staying low and in ground effect will let you push down against ground effect a bit and it seems to add a couple of knots of speed. Graceful smooth lines through the pylons are best - don't race straight from one pylon to the next and yank it around every corner SLOWLY banking the T-6 will help retain your speed, those ailerons seem to have a ton of drag modelled into them. Likewise, keeping the ball centered in the turn and slip indicator will keep the airframe true into the wind and avoid slowing the airplane down from slipping or skidding in a turn. Just focusing on those last two items last night reduced my best total race time from the mid-7:27's to the low 7:24's, with lap times consistently in the 1:13's now. A lot of people have claimed that the Reno expansion logic doesn't allow for the difference in pilot skill, but don't fall into that simple-minded trap; these results indicate that indeed it makes all the difference, and there is more depth to it than first meets the eye. My thoughts are that if you are flying with someone that is markedly faster than you, try to race with them as much as you can, study what they are doing and ask yourself how you might be able to improve, then go practice and experiment. Above all, if we can get some positive community engagement on sharing feedback and tips, etc., it will help others who want to have fun and make this a success. Edit: There is a "Racing Tips" section on the Discord channel now just for this purpose! 👍 Being racers, some people will want to keep a few things close to their chest and that's OK too, but we need to do what we can to quell any unfounded fear of of cheating in the community (with trust that Asobo will address any exploits that are found, as they seem committed to do).
