Finally found a simulator I'm happy with...

Recommended Posts

Today I began experimenting with FS2004 aircraft and scenery in P3Dv3.  I already have the SDB military airports for FSX installed along with their ai aircraft on the tarmac and flying.

One of my favorite aircraft, the FS2004 PMDG Beech 1900D works perfectly.  I half expected to see the that message the model is not visible or some such.  But it is and I flew it and all the gauges work.  So I am going to start experimenting with old FS2004 favorites.

Likewise scenery.  I installed the FS2004 FSAD Orcas Island.  Fits perfectly.  I have a slew of those to install as well as other major airports to experiment with.

I installed Orbx Base Pack, Trees HD, Vector and open LC North America and it really brightened things up.  I don't need the Orbx regions, just the airports I am interested in as well as FS2004 airports that fit.

I am finally satisfied with a combination of aircraft and scenery that all work in P3Dv3 that P3Dv5 won't have anything to do with.

Obviously I'm going to find some FSX and FS2004 things that are not compatible with P3Dv3, but I think a lot of it will work.

I have enough installation work to last me a year or more.  You might call it P3D back to the future.

And I went to several mountainous locations and looked around both with and without mesh.  I found I don't really need Pilot's mesh.  Things look good enough without it

The tires are worn.  The shocks are shot.  The steering is wobbly.  But the engine still runs fine.

Hi Noel!  These are my favorite 2 combo aircraft and simulators all-in-one!

Wings of Power II WWii Fighters special edition from A2A was designed for FS2004, very advanced for it's day in graphics and detail.

A2A Messerschmidt, Spitfire, Zero, P47 Thunderbolt, P51 Mustang. special edition included the Zero, 5 booklets, 1 wall chart. I imagine the A2A forum would show if it works in P3Dv3

My favorite one Charlie was a glider that had the wings fold back and you shot it into the air with a strong rubber band (or an inner tube band) in a stick.  It would launch 30 or 40 feet in the air until the wings unfolded and it began to glide back to earth.  Got good distance on one of those.

I have the Jetfire pack of 2 planes by Guillow parked underneath my computer screen. You guys bring back memories of Cox diesel powered planes.

I remember something called JetX I think.  You put in a CO2 cartridge, punctured the end, and off the glider went.

Ehehe,

me too have a great time in P3D again.

Runs super-fluid in my rig, which was actually assembled with another flight simulator game in mind, and my preferred add-ons - the FSLabs Airbuses and the PMDG 777 🙂

There were some great fs9-Era add-ons, like the Aeroworx B20, but if I decide to invest in such a type I'll probably go Milviz KA350i

Main Simulation Rig:

Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti, 1 TB & 500 GB M.2 nvme drives, Win11.

Glider pilot since 1980...

Avid simmer since 1992...

Darn you Noel. You've made me try to reinstall PD3v3. Now I've wasted valuable hours I could have spent on the forum(s) trying to get that sucker activated. No joy. All I get is a 9105 error. And I've tried every fix known to man. So, back to P3Dv4/5. Sigh............Doug

No Martin, not a bit.  I have enough simulators to keep me busy for the rest of my life.  I'm too old to keep tilting at every new windmill that pops up on the landscape.  Every time a new simulator pops up on the horizon it's like Black Friday for the flightsim community.  Like the seven year locusts.  I can't wait to watch the rush to FS2005 when FS2000 officially becomes obsolete.

The thing that really bugs me is that I 've had it installed a couple of times before. I dumped it once when v4 came out, reinstalled it, and then got rid of it again due to disc space needs. I'll never understand computers. I just what I knew what I did to pissitoff this time.

You can keep the old sim on your system though. You can have both. Or would you be tempted to spend dosh, is that what you mean?

No Martin.  The three I have running now (FS2004, P3Dv3 and P3Dv5) are enough complication for me at this stage of my life.  I find myself getting forgetful and my learning curve has flattened out and trying to learn new things gets frustrating.  I'm OK with what I already know.

Like the news.  I keep thinking life was better 50 years ago than it is now.  But is that because I remember what it was like then more than I don't understand what's happening now or was it really better back then?

Our perceptions are weird things. Influenced by so many factors, not all of them based on objective reality.

I recall a conversation I had with a Tesco's delivery man a while back. He talked about how people had told him how awesome it was back in the 70's and 80's and how rubbish it was today. I spent  a little while talking about  the negative things that went on at the time and explaining how it was much better these days in many ways. Nope, he wouldn't accept it so I gave up. He wouldn't accept it despite being too young to be around at the time.

I think its a case of in some ways better and in some ways worse. In terms of my experience in the UK, I'd say its way better these days overall. I cant comment on the US, have no experience in that respect of course.
