Does ASCA or ENVTEX improve volumetric clouds in P3D v5?

Featured Replies

I like that there is more variation in cloud models/textures with ActiveSky and ASCA - something which both EA in v5 and MSFS both don't really have. It's the same cloud types (cumulus) and sky colours every time you fly.

Coastdriver thank you so much for taking the time sharing your settings, if you could also add your AS settings that would make a complete wonderful package for EA/TS dummies. After trying EA/TS I couldn't switch back to 2D clouds even with all its shortcomings.

Please explain what you mean by 2D clouds. If I use EA I get horrible flat clouds. With EA off and using AS/ASCA, I get clouds that look like your preferred clouds. But are they 2D?

when folks say 2D clouds they just mean REX , ASCA or any other old school programs. i still use ASCA with EA on . true sky ( new school) is getting better but still needs to improve for me to switch , i keep trying it every now and then but always revert back  as it just doesn't look right and it hammers my GPU ( 1080ti) , LM will get it right one day , and one day i will trade up to RTX lol

@coastaldriver,

Do you know of a way where i can reduce the brightness of the clouds at night? ive used TOGA Projects Envplus and Envshade, but it results in a lot of device hung, desipite having 16gb vram (6800xt) and a decent cpu, 5800x3d

Natorden - sorry no cloud brightness at night is a function of the way light is produced, represented and manipulated in the sim. Whether or not V6 does this any better I cannot say as I have moved away from P3D for good and now only use XP12. XP12 does a much better job of light control and cloud representation without the need for any form of addon to manipulate the look.

But it (xp12) still does not illuminate clouds at night from aircraft or city lights...
