What? Captain Sim "CARGO Expansion" and no MAIN CARGO door?

Featured Replies

It is unbelievable that a company sells a "CARGO Expansion" without any MAIN CARGO animation?

And yes, I know... I was stupid because I didn´t read that "limitation" on the product´s page, and due to simply not believing in someone releasing (and charging) a CARGO Expansion without any Main CARGO door animation (or simply an Open/Close).

Really dissatisfied with this "CARGO Expansion"...

Well, Captain Sim being Captain Sim... 😒

You're certainly not alone...

You'll find a lot of members here on Avsim are no longer supporters of CS (as well as a few over on their forum).

The CS767-II has a history. Considered by many as overpriced upon base package release, it never did sell for it's "ask" price...it just remained "on sale" for the duration of it's run.

In early announcements following the release of the base package, there were various correspondences regarding the freighter expansion as well as engine types that would be forthcoming (including a poll for a 767-400 expansion, less the modern cockpit).

I, like many others, purchased the base model on the "promise" of a forthcoming freighter expansion...you know, the most commonly flown B767 variant today...

Out of the blue, CS announced they stopped development of the B767 and no freighter was coming.

Their forum blew up!!! It was probably more blow back than they were expecting.

They "compromised" with a blank window version of their base aircraft together with a soundless GE engine expansion. (I can only assume they consulted with their legal representation based upon their earlier publications...of course, that's an assumption.)

That's how we got to where we are.

What amazes me (among many other things) is that they already had an older version of the B767 freighter...it couldn't have been too hard to update that one to PBR and release it...again, another assumption on my part.

At the same time of the B767 expansion fiasco, CS made at least two other blunders...the hastily packaged B777 release for MSFS and the non-PBR B737 Classic series...both which appeared to be ill-received in the marketplace.

Based on the feedback here at Avsim and even on their forum (based on threads that weren't deleted!), whatever "good-will" CS had remaining based on their long (and some would say dubious) tenure in flight sim was exhasted in 2021.

Yes, I have both the base and freighter. TBH, I actually enjoy flying it (as it is one of my all time favorite airframes). As many here know, I actually painted several liveries for both the base and freighter.

In the future; however, I will be very selective of any potential purchases with this vendor based on their past practices.

Don't get me started on CS 🤣

Only unbelievable if the company wasn't CS.

This is the EXACT concept they rely on to suck unsuspecting customers into buying their products.  You are not stupid....you just displayed typical human behavior and they capitalized on it (thinking there is no possible way they are selling a "cargo" plane with a non-opening cargo door...this HAS to be a typo).

Just like @rmeier noted that they always list their products "on sale" out of the gate, with a 30-40% higher "regular" price, again praying on the human nature to rationalize "Hey I really want this but on the fence with some things...BUT...I better buy it now at this price to save some money before the sale ends"...they sale never ends, that was the list price all along...just think of all those commercials that show a countdown timer that you only have "1:32:45" to get this offter before it ends...then the next day you see the same commercial, only at "1:31:21" left on that "timer"...same concept here.

OK...I'll stop there as I could go on about CS, but sadly some here think its perfectly fine for them to lure unsuspecting simmers new to the community and sell products with questionable marketing pages....MSFS was a boon for them, and their "support" forum is riddled with new customers asking why their 777 flies like a 747 (well the few posts they haven't gotten around to deleting yet)....same concept you experienced @Hamilton_....thinking that even though there is a craftily-worded thing about "with essential functionality of the 747"....a lot of new simmers thought "There is NO WAY they just slapped a 777 external model on the 747 systems and are selling that for $30....that would be absolutely stupid....must be a typo or not that important...I'll but it anyway.  Loaded up, look at the FMC, across the bezel, "747", on the info page on the FMC "747-8"......HEYYYYY....wait a min...you mean to tell me they actually DID just slap a 777 external model onto the 747 systems?  OK...going to the forums to ask What thaaa..."

In the CS forum...."Hey I just bought the MSFS 777 and I see on the FMC 747 all over the place"
CS reply: https://www.captainsim.org/forum/csf.pl?num=1621499490  Same reply to every simmer...just a link "welcoming" them to the CS family and how they do things in MSFS.  I'd throw in a laugh emoji but sadly its not a laughing matter when you've just realized you paid $29.99 for an external model.

Captain Sim is not the company it used to be, and even when it was still reasonably credible, it was still a bit dubious on occasion. Now its little more than a joke, and a not very funny one either.

It is actually very sad to see how far CaptainSim have fallen since the days when I enjoyed flying their Boeing 707 in FSX. There is no way that I would ever purchase anything from them now, even in one of those $9.99 sales.

Yes.. The CS 707 and 727 were marvels back in the day they were released, with top notch graphics.

I wish they kept to the classics, as their programming clearly isn't good enough for glass cockpits.

Perfect @Steve Dra, thanks for your post. After posting basically the same post (above) on their forum they just deleted it.

Well, quoting Mr @Christopher Low above, there is no way that I would ever purchase anything from them now, even in one of those $9.99 sales.

Thank you all for the comments. 👍

Someone needs to fill that classic hole in MSFS. Need some old school Boeing/Douglas/Lockheed of quality.

I'm the one who don't care much about the exterior visual, so I'd be the perfect candidate to bought this extention right?

No, as I don't care, I just fly the base model anyway....

From what I have heared they didn't get the GE engine control system right...

Its Captain SCAM !

Unfortunately, I also fell for this cargo version for $9.99.

You practically bought a cargo livery for $9.99.

It's not a real cargo plane...

Captain Scam FCK you....
