It was on the ground struggling. I got in the pickup and drove to where it was and put that lead into the back of it's head and killed it. I'm surprised you admitted that. If we are going to hunt for food, then we should make sure we are at a range where a "kill shot" as you put it is extremely likely. Not too far way "but I took it anyway". Because the "too far away but I took it anyway" attitude left a poor unfortunate, sentient creature to suffer in extreme pain, while you made your way over there to put it out of its misery. They enjoy the outdoors and want to preserve what they can of it. Look up Ducks Unlimited, an organized waterfowl conservation group of hunters that protect and restore wetlands and bird habitat. Professional conservationists like those Federal and State Fish and Wildlife biologists and employees are also hunters. Several of those I worked with at the Bitter Lake National Wildlife Refuge are hunters and shoot ducks and geese in the morning before going to work. Hunting during season is allowed at most government wildlife refuges. It's in the interest of hunters to protect the species they hunt. Martin, your Messianic condemnation of hunting game animals and birds is misplaced. You sound like a fanatic. Hunters like myself get a lot of satisfaction hunting big and small game and upland birds and waterfowl. And we do more to conserve the species of the animals and birds we hunt than fanatics like yourself. Noel The tires are worn. The shocks are shot. The steering is wobbly. Being a bit judgemental, Martin. If you notice it yourself it's time to relax. You can't change the world. Just some friendly advice from one that tried. Peace. Bill W

The animal suffered longer than it would if it was a "kill shot". 1 hour ago, BillW said: You can't change the world. No indeed I cant. But we all have to make an effort, collectively perhaps we can.

I was referring more to the "we are at the top of the food chain" mentality. I don't think that's a good philosophy if we are to protect the natural environment the way we should. It can be meant literally in an intellectual, scientific, biological sense and figuratively. Figuratively its a "humans are top dog and can do what we like mentality". Not saying that's your mentality. 3 hours ago, birdguy said: Martin, your Messianic condemnation of hunting game animals and birds is misplaced. You sound like a fanatic. If you are defining Messianic as passionate, then I am moderately so. Certainly not a fanatic. Its just common sense to me, to not extinguish life for fun, sport, when we don't need to. Common sense really, we are killing sentient beings. And you are misrepresenting my comments again 🙄 as you usually do in these conversations. I have not condemned the hunting of animals, I'm a meat eater for gods sake! 😃 I have criticized the hunting of animals when its not necessary, done for fun, sport, and not to consume. I've also said I find anyone who "enjoys killing animals" disturbing. I think its important to remember that the planet is facing an environmental crisis, with more species becoming extinct every day. You yourself have expressed concern in this regard and suggested we address environmental issues on this planet, before thinking about Mars as a plan b. Maybe its time we all had a different attitude and rather than killing animals when we don't need to and devastating natural environments thus threatening a multitude of species, we acted as custodians of the planet instead. Quote than fanatics like yourself. And on that note, after that insult, and lots of misrepresentation, as usual... we will leave it at that. Edited March 2, 20224 yr by martin-w

In fact often better than the dreadful way animals are treated in slaughter houses. Then there are those that kill endangered animals for the "trophy" and as you say, those that poach in locations like Africa for profit. Often sold as pseudo scientific potions. In that respect its human beings that are often threatened too, in reserves, as they attempt to protect the animals. 269 rangers were killed in a 6 years period, a while back, protecting Rhino's.
